Japan hit by 8.9 Magnitude Quake, Tsunami Warnings In Effect

Re: Japan hit by 8.9 Magnitude Quake, Tsunami Warnings In Effect

It does sound like there has been some damage at selected locations on our west coast. Nothing like the devestation in Japan though.

Some of that film showing the water- oh, my gosh. Stunning how far inland, what it's going over, and what is being dragged along.

Yeah it sounds like a couple of ports in California got a little damage, probably places where conditions are sensitive to the water level as is, but nothing major.

Re: Japan hit by 8.9 Magnitude Quake, Tsunami Warnings In Effect

Seriously, there are people in Japan and the Pacific who had no choice here, and this numbnuts goes out there to take a few pictures.

I hope they find him and slap him with the bill for his rescue. Honestly. Its a massive wall of energy thats been rocketing across the ocean. If you really have to go watch it, find a spot where you're a good 50 to a hundred feet up from sea level at least. Don't just go to right where the **** thing is going to send water flooding over.

Re: Japan hit by 8.9 Magnitude Quake, Tsunami Warnings In Effect

I was watching a few minutes of Tsunami coverage on CNN. They were interviewing a couple engineers, and the anchor asked, Wow, it's a good thing that Japan leads the world in preparing for these disasters, don't you think? Can you just imagine if something like this were to happen somewhere else?"

For about two priceless seconds, the guy was completely silent, with this utterly blank look on his face. You could actually see him trying with all his might not to answer:

"I suppose the surviving relatives of two hundred thousand Indonesians and Indians could imagine it."

Japan.
Massive earthquake.
Nuclear plant having issues.

I wish Godzilla would show up so I'd know this is just a campy movie and not reality.

Re: Japan hit by 8.9 Magnitude Quake, Tsunami Warnings In Effect

The largest island moved 8 inches to the east. Imagine if Japan didn't have the toughest building codes in the world:eek:. Reports now are they have lost control of 2 reactors at one plant

Re: Japan hit by 8.9 Magnitude Quake, Tsunami Warnings In Effect

One silver lining for Japan. Their volcanoes survived the plate movement without much fuss. I've seen reports of small eruptions in Russia and Indonesia, though.

End of days, baby. ;)

I can't even fathom this. poor poor people in Japan.

NBC is reporting loss of control of two nuclear reactors.

Re: Japan hit by 8.9 Magnitude Quake, Tsunami Warnings In Effect

I kinda want to see the pictures...I always wondered what it would look like right before you get hit by a tsunami...

I think its probably like when people are up against something they don't know they can't handle... "oooh, shiny object..."

Re: Japan hit by 8.9 Magnitude Quake, Tsunami Warnings In Effect

Its even shorter than I posted, its 8 FEET to the east:eek:

so, this is the world's first "green" earthquake? how socially conscious of mother Gaia.

Re: Japan hit by 8.9 Magnitude Quake, Tsunami Warnings In Effect

Wow...Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said the earth's axis shifted 25 cm as a result of the quake.

Wow...Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said the earth's axis shifted 25 cm as a result of the quake.

One of these quakes is going to send the earth off its Axis forever and we'll spin out of control into the icy Universe.
