January 14th Poll Speculations

Re: January 14th Poll Speculations

Next year, with the WIAC becoming it's own (sub 7 team) conference, Pool B is back in play. It will be between the ECAC-W and WIAC as to who gets the Pool B bid. It does not have to be the tournament champion, either.

Pool C will be reduced to 2 teams.

Won't the NCHA's AQ bid in essence become the Pool B bid with Pool C retaining its 3 bids?

Sorry - bad math. You're right. We lose an AQ next year, but keep 11 bids.

7A + 3C + 1B = 11. Solve for X.

Re: January 14th Poll Speculations

Let them play 2 or 3 or 4 more games, D1 plays how may?? I bet it comes down to $$$$$$

It has nothing to with hockey. Those limits were set to mirror the basketball limits. In fact there was a move a few years ago by the NESCACs to drop the limits by 10% - which would have made it 23 games. Back in your day they could play around 30 games a season.

10-4...thnks for the info

Re: January 14th Poll Speculations

Realistically I don't see the NCHA losing too much without its autobid. I think at least one NCHA member as well as one member of the ECAC W will be in the tourney for the foreseeable future. Whether either can manage two in the tourney without an autobid is a different story.

It would be nice if Canton went to the ECAC-W but I am assuming they are heading to the SUNYAC?

I'm not so sold on the NCHA and the ECAC West always getting a team in.

All it takes is one year where the remaining teams don't do well out of conference and they can be in big trouble real quick. The NCHA loses its most consistent and dominant powerhouse team for the last decade plus. Will River Falls, Superior, Stevens Point etc be able to win enough games in conference and out of conference to justify bids? I'm not so sure.

I can guarantee with 100% certainty that the NCHA will not receive a bid to the 2014 NCAA D-III Men's Ice Hockey Championship.

Prez - you know better than to post something like that.

Right you are, Joe...
Will be interesting to see who the WIAC teams schedule their non conference games with.
I heard that they will play each team in conference three times, which would be only 12 games.

If they do 4 times, that's 16 games. Where do they find 9 games in easy reach??

The MCHA will have 10 teams (18 games). They have to find 7.

The MIAC has 9 teams (16 games). They also need to find 9 games.

Now do the math and come up with a schedule for 24 teams.

Who is going to end up interlocking with the MIAC?

Financially it would make more sense gyro have a MIAC/WIAC interlock, but an MCHA/MIAC interlock would make more sense for scheduling and possibly for SOS.
