Re: "Jan. 8-9th: The Ultimate Hockey Weekend" Adrian @ Oswego, Plattsburgh @ Elmira
Im not sure what part of explanation you need....
A) I don't think Oswego is the best team in the nation, just because a poll puts them there doesn't mean they are the best team I've seen on the ice, but that doesn't mean I see them as a non-top 5 team either. I've already said I'd put Norwich ahead of Oswego....did you miss that part to..so obviously it takes a complete team like Norwich to impress me enough not to say Oswego isn't the best (note I didn't say #1) team in nation. A lot of people want to put Oswego on this almighty pedistal as being the best team in college hockey..they very well may yes, because not always does the best team win, but it doesn't mean just because they are #1 in some poll...Polls are good fodder and good motivators.......still with me here?
B) Argument 1 "If Adrian beat Oswego it makes Hamlines wins over Oswego bigger"
1)What has Hamline done outside of a tie against SNC (a team a MASCAC team shut out) and two wins over the questioned Adrian team? They've beated teams with a combined .262 winning %...YIPPY. They (Hamline) are said to be a good western team, but nothing sustained to support that YET.
2) Having said (1) IF Adrian competes well and or beats Oswego (who is a top 1-4 Eastern/Overall team depending on who you ask) One will argue that Adrian is > Oswego....Thus giving more merit to Hamlines two wins. Yes Yes bring on all of the other scenerios....if team A beats Team B, Team C is better then Team B.
still with me here....?
C) Argument 2 "Adrian will be as pumped up as they were against Hamline when they play Oswego"
1) See Argument B-1 and the whole "where/who is Hamline". It is not meant as a "slam" against Hamline, but besides the 3-4 people on here who follow Hamline, the majority of the nation is still waiting to see just how good this Hamline team is. Having said that, you were also dealing with Adrian #4 vs Hamline #10....I think you could say Hamline was the underdog, where now you will have Adrian taking on the #1 POLL team in the nation. No matter if you are talking football, baseball, soccer whatever....the title of #1 brings it to the next level. No this is NOT saying Adrian overlooked Hamline as some people want to make it sound, its the fact that facing the #1 POLL team is the BIGGEST game Adrian has yet to play in their 3 years. So those acting like the game means nothing are just looking for excuses...
still with me here.....
D) Argument 3 "Adrians win/loss over Oswego will do nothing come selection time"
1) Smoke filled room or not, coaches and fans have all been waiting to see how Adrian stakes up against a perenial and current top notch program. Some want to argue Hamline, but again go back to Argument 1...sorry just havn't proven anything. IF big IF Adrian takes home the W, the committee could had very well overlooked the SOS and put Adrian into the tourney..HAD THE ALSO BEAT HAMLINE....and yes I just said Hamline is skeptical, but I also said the jury is still out....they, unlike Adrian, still have some big games to improve or disprove their status as a top team. Adrian needed all three games, and so far 2 of the 3 have no panned out for the BullDogs. Once the Oswego game is over, the next huge game for Adrian will be the MCHA playoffs. HAD Adrian beat Hamline (even maybe a competitive split), and beat Oswego I think you would find the committee looking at that Oswego game, even as much as they say its like it doesn't exist. Opinion ...maybe...but some of us who have been around have seen stranger things happen.
and about the wallet...thats alright dude, mine comes with a badge, you can have my free one....might hold your food stamps for ya!

Simple works, just looking for an explanation to your "logic".
And there will be no excuses needed. Better get there early though, I hear the first 500 fans get free wallets.
