Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Protests in downtown Phoenix yesterday by SB1070 opponents, despite the judge's ruling largely in their favor. About 500 folks were bussed in from California to protest. And they won't win a lot of friends by blocking downtown traffic with civil disobedience, including blocking the light rail system.

Morons. They won, and still protested afterwards?

If any were arrested, could you then check to see if they were in this country legally??

If there were illegals on the California bus, could AZ then impound the bus for illegally transporting aliens across state lines?

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Hey why not? I've always been of the opinion that citizens will eventually decide what kind of government they want in Arizona over time - one that pushes for this law and one that doesn't. Aside from some of the odder provisions of this law (people being able to sue the cops if they think they aren't aggressive enough? Detaining people who "look like" illegals even if they are legal but don't have papers on them to prove it??) let it pass and then see how the politics sorts out.

While I'm sure somebody will point out the law's current popularity, that may not hold if the California experience is repeated here, so time will tell.

I'm sure the feds wouldn't let either happen. Or they'd sue if they did happen.

Radicals are radicals, common sense or intellect doesn't figure into the equation. I guess with the national media attention Sheriff Joe figures he can't squash 'em like bugs. Pity.

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

As surely as night follows day, you can bet that any scheme which allows illegals permission to work here will be followed by suggestions that they be allowed to vote. Lefties have been working hard trolling for votes among felons and doing the same with illegals would be automatic. There have already been suggestions that illegals should get to vote in municipal elections "after all, they'd only be voting for mayors and city council, not members of congress." Mark my words on this one.

You're darn right!

The Lefties make a mockery of what it means to be American. No, they're not "un-American" or crap like that. These supporters of illegal immigrant rights are some of the purest form of idiocy it should be considered an illegal substance.

Why become a citizen at all if you are afforded all or even SOME of the rights Americans hold at no expectation in return other than to keep picking those heads of lettuce for 25 cents an hour in the 98 degree heat?

People can suggest to their hearts content, but I truly hope and believe that this will never come to fruition.
One word for you: California.

One explanation: Never discount the fruitcakes of California and the organizations within the state that work tirelessly to help illegals get their families across the border and license the illegals with drivers licenses (and i hear even social security numbers!), low income housing, food stamps, etc.

Well, there are those who would prefer to just stay here on work visas. You know what? That's fine. I don't care if someone wants to live here and not be a citizen. But they should do it legally: they should get a work visa. Why should we just be okay for them to ****ing come here, under the radar, and just EXPECT that we'll be able to use our government resources on whatever they want and be ever so happy to do it?

Bunch of parasites. If they want to rape our country like this, the least they can do is have the common courtesy to give us a reach around.

Ah but people who hold visas must carry their papers with them at all times. Work visas are a way for our awful government to engage in racial profiling and is, thus, illegal.

Oh, by the way, the marijuana bust? Looks like that's another big "hit" on the protestors in Arizona and California. The illegals were making it up just for them. An indirect benefit of illegal immigration.

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Obama is now looking at going around Congress to unilaterally ease the burden on illegals, so to speak. Why am I not surprised. Ideas include stopping deportations of illegals. Maybe this was what the ICE head was hinting at when he said they might not cooperate with Arizona officials who would want to turn over illegals to them. Just further evidence that Obama favors the illegals over enforcing laws and protecting American citizens.

Holy ****ing ****, that is the most absurd thing I've seen a President do since probably spring of '03.

Wow.

If only the Democratic party had a spine, they would set up primaries for the Democratic ticket in '12. This is getting insane.

It's not a matter of not having a spine, it's a matter that any of the hopefuls probably have a brain. They see what happened in the 2008 primaries. They see what happened in the general election. They see what's still happening in the White House - race being used as a blunt instrument against anyone who tries to stand in the way of this "post-racial President" and his agenda. I'm sure some of them would like to come out on the other side of a potential primary with a career intact.

Race is certainly being used as a wedge when it comes to getting anything done with illegal immigration, but that's hardly the only time when it is coming into play. Divide and conquer. Gets 'em every time.

Why would they do that... THOSE IN CONTROL AGREE WITH HIM.

I mean, I hope some of you would get it... look at who they are, look at what they believe... look at what they say... then you will know them and not until then.

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

A matter of precedence? You must not have followed federal spending practices since, oh, at least JFK's years? So Robert Byrd's 50+ years of WV pork barrel and all the other pork barrel that has gone out for decades and decades isn't precedent, and that isn't even for meaningful federal responsibilities the way controlling your border is. The irony is, on most pork-barrel assessments, the AZ delegation is at or near the best ranking for not taking pork barrel. I guess they just should have sidled up to the trough over the years the way Byrd and company have, and we could have our own wall and all. I'm sorry, but that's a woeful argument, no other way of cutting it.

Big deal...nobody likes pork barrel spending. But the difference is that I don't want to give states the ability to force pork barrel spending back on the federal government. If Arizona wants to go outside of federal channels to inact laws...then it better be prepared to pay for them.

Ok. I really tried to hold off on this, but again I'm going to call you out on this specious argument. To claim that a little more money for AZ border control (as has already been given to California, NM, and Texas for many years by the way) matters on the federal budget level is simply ridiculous.

Additional border funding plan cut by U.S. Senate
BORDER ISSUES

After winning approval for $700 million to help improve the long waits at border ports of entry last month from the U.S. House of Representatives, the Senate has slashed it.

Under the House-approved plan, $208.4 million would have been spent on 1,200 additional Border Patrol agents and $136 million for 500 additional U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers.

After winning approval for $700 million to help improve the long waits at border ports of entry last month from the U.S. House of Representatives, the Senate has slashed it.

U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., was instrumental in getting the funding added to the House version. Both of Arizona’s senators, John McCain and Jon Kyl, voted to cut the funding.

A blow to socialism. :p

Border ports... they're for the passing and inspection of trucks and cargo not for the stopping of illegals.

Your basic argument is "you're cool with X... lets double down on the costs of X on Y... hell, I say double... 20-fold should do it".

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Rather than whining about Obama (c'mon now, we were probably this close to never having to read a Rover post ever again) in the 19th consecutive pointless thread, I say we invade Mexico, kill every drug cartel and burn Azteca to the ground. It's a win win for all involved!

Who's with me?
