Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

Re: Illegal Immigration Pt. III: It's Illegal to be Illegal? Really?

I believe the country is headed to bankruptcy. I try to not post everything in my normal pessimistic ire cause that turns people off.
I think you are probably right on the first part. But that wasn't the question I've asked multiple times.

Do I believe the numbers? Honestly I think there too impossible to digest. Like I said a couple of minutes ago I'd prefer Health Care be run like other insurance is run. If people actually had to buy it things would be a lot different.

This Hybrid the US came up with cause they're not ready for universal but they have this huge problem is so complicated I don't see how any numbers could be correct about anything.

That being said Social Security (in comparison) is really only going bankrupt because it wasn't truly a trust fund. It's part of the general ledger. Whoever decided that was a good idea was a moron.

It still would be in bankruptcy in 20 years even if it was a pure trust fund. They should have indexed it to the average life expectancy and it probably would buy at least an extra 50 years.

Of course I'd rather everyone keep their 13% and use that towards their own retirement.

Well, if the budget is impossible to digest, I suggest that the fact that it was debated and voted on is largely meaningless from a standpoint of whether the budget projections are accurate or not. Glad we've settled that one.

Agreed on Social Security. The same mentality that led to turning Social Security into nothing but a bunch of IOUs with little back them up, pervades the fiscal irresponsibility of the federal government, and current generations burdening future generations with the results of their fiscal irresponsibility.

My plan is to instantly raise the age of collection 10 years for all of those 10 years or more away from collection. Index it to life expectancy from there on out. Remove the taxable income cap.

I think that would buy an extra 50 years. I don't life expectancy alone would buy 50 years.

Also, it's not a retirement fund (at least it wasn't originally).

Edit: Let me rephrase that, because you didn't explicitly call it that. If people want a retirement fund they should save for it.

Yeah, but if it were honest accounting it would be easy to pass a law to fix it.

You try and pass a law now and many (including me) are going where the hell is the 20 years of money that we paid for? Why is it gone?

Well, you don't pass a law and those of us that will have paid for 20 years are going to wonder where that money went.

Edit: Also, money in =! money out.

It's just a promise that you'll be taken care of if you are unable to take care of yourself.

You're actually counting on getting Social Security? The system is being milked so dry by the current generation and the coming baby boomers, that I've always assumed if I get a single dollar from Social Security, it'll be a bonus. I just view the deduction from my check as a transfer payment to current generations of retirees, with no real expectation of it every coming back to me.

Of course if the whole country goes bankrupt, who knows what will happen with Social Security or anything else.

Where did I say that?

I just want to know where the 20 years of money they ****ed away went.

The baby boomers are the most selfish generation that has ever existed on this planet. Bar none. Yes, that's right, I'm calling my parents selfish.

I think your last sentence answers teh question contained in the middle of your post. Your money has been given to others. You have to hope others will come along in the future to give money to you. But Ponzi schemes eventually collapse of course.

Pyramid schemes can actually go on forever if the base keeps getting bigger. The final impetus for space colonization will be keeping my god**** social security checks coming. :p

No, I'm pretty much screwed. I figure by the time I'm done paying for my kids college educations I will be broke.

I don't care though cause there's no way in hell I'm going to have them start out life a hundred thousand in debt because the college costs keep skyrocketing.

Sadly, that's a better plan than a lot of what you hear the feds talking about. Maybe drop an e-mail to your representative, so we can get those space colonies going and get a little return on our SS investment. ;)

That's our family's policy. Kind of like our own version of social security.

(I'm not one but) The babyboomers are a lot of things. They advanced society of the country/world through civil rights and womens equality, patriots in fighting Vietnam war and innovators driving amazing technology such as the PC, cell phone and internet economy. But yes...they also went along ways to setting precidents for an eternal political animosity towards themselves and paving the road to national bankruptcy.

Tons of good and bad...but definitely changed America.
