Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Americans have cushier jobs and pay less for much in life due to immigrants.

Its called quality of life.

And yet the same people who ***** about this same thing raise hell when you ship jobs overseas saving americans a boatload of cash. Weird...

...an even better solution. Then just go over there and sell them stuff. Done.

They used to... I remember my father rattling off what you could get for picking off of the tree and the ground... of course they didn't have foreigners driving down the wages back then... funny that.

Yea, but how much are we as a country willing to pay for an apple, now?

That, and the article does point out that there is a significant labor shortage in the apple market, which isn't being filled, even though is quite a bit clear of minimum wage....

I'd be willing to pay 6x as much as I currently pay for an apple, since now whenever I buy apples I eat one and then the other 5 rot.

I really don't know how much of this I believe...talk about your smoke-filled room conspiracy theories.

That said, even the hint of this kind of impropriety is why prisons should not ever be privatized and run-for-profit.

Don't forget, Arizona has a very profitable red-light camera set up, too. Proftiable for Motorola, I think.

But it is interesting that the ilegal immigrants will end up being a significant burdon to the Arizona community afterall.

Typical biased NPR reporting. Yellow journalism at its finest. When will NPR be opening compaigning against Jan Brewer here? They had a real nice puff piece the other day, promoting her opponent on their local station here in Phoenix. Anyone (are you listening NPR), that thinks some prison privatization scheme is remotely driving immigration issues in Arizona is simply looney and has no clue what goes on here in Arizona.

And on the red light cameras, that was one of Janet Napolitano's schemes to get more money for her social programs. Problem is, they didn't make much money, and they made a lot of people mad. So Jan Brewer and the Republican Legislature here had them all taken down (there are a few still done by certain municipalities). I used to drive past several each day going to work. They are no longer even in the ground.

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

You are joking, right?

I'm sure NPR's reporters have a certain POV based on their days as undergrads at Bard, but "yellow journalism"? That's so not recherché, darling.
No.

Might not be the perfect term to describe it, but it's not far afield. NPR really seems to be getting worse these days. They used to be soft liberal, but they're quickly transitioning to helping forward the liberal standard much more openly and obviously.

To run a rubbish, slanted, very narrowly tailored article like that just days before the election is bush league for someone like that who just fired someone for not keeping up supposed journalistic standards and ethics. Very poor show by NPR.

Well isn't that special? AZ politicians lining their pockets over this immigration bill. VERY interesting.

Of course, since its conservatives involved, we're all supposed to look the other way I guess.

Sorry this came out about your girlfriend Bob, but did you ever stop and think that maybe the old battle axe just ain't up for the job? :D

How did they not make much money? Seriously, that's all those cameras are good for, is raking in the dough.

Turned out a fairly small percentage of photos taken ended up being paid tickets. Some didn't get a good picture, a sizable chunk people just ignored and didn't pay, etc. I agree it seems like a no brainer moneymaker, but they aren't necessarily. I now Napolitano assumed like hundreds of millions of profit a year in her drive to expand state spending (Jan Brewer has had to clean up Napolitano's mess), but profits were a small fraction. I live in Tempe, where the city has a few of its own, and I've read a number of articles about how they basically just break even, but the city likes them because it reduces accidents, makes things safer for pedestrians, etc. Don't worry, it's a common misconception.
