Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

You're right, Conyers asked him to leave cause he was happy to have Colbert there.

Whenever I invite guests over, I always immediately ask them to leave, just to make them feel comfortable.

I'll agree about K.O. being another entertainer, but remember Beck is quite literally a self-declared professional comedian.

I don't understand Colbert going. The "marches" are perfect parody -- the apt send-up of Beck's tin pot posturing and the funny/sad state of our politics when such a joker wields actual influence. Appearing in front of Congress in character is at best the same joke -- the idiocy of contemporary politics and its entertainment crossover. Even then, nobody will get the point unless they already understand Colbert's show. So, no upside, and plenty of downside from the easy media tongue clucking.

Does it automatically mean that you're 'embarrassed' by that guest? You couldn't have any other reason?

There is no evidence to that conclusion.

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Bottom line is the entire time Colbert was there and giving testimony, those blathering idiots couldn't screw anything up.

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Steny Hoyer joins in the vast right wing conspiracy against Colbert
Pretty much everybody agrees the Colbert appearance was embarrassing. That doesn't mean the GOP won't react defensively the next time its politically-motivated criticisms are seen as politically-motivated. :p

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

Hey, looks like someone doesn't understand the concept of a free market. Let me suggest Smith's "The Wealth of Nations." Good read, but there aren't really that many pictures in it, unfortunately.

Yeah, no sympathy whatsoever for a person who wants to get paid what their worth. Who does he think he is? What college did HE go to?

No sympathy for someone who's unemployed and refuses that $8.50/hr. hard, crappy job that an illegal immigrant is more than happy to take, just because the person thinks he's "worth" more.

Yeah, those people, they're so worthless. Maybe if the government wasn't already paying them more than that to just sit on their duff, maybe they'd take that job.

They're not worthless. They've made a choice. I just don't want to hear their complaints about the outcome of that choice.

I have no problem with the unemployment system we've selected, even though it's not some third party payer, "the government", coming up with the money, but people like me who employ other individuals and have to contribute unemployment tax for the privilege.

You're paying for those people you despise to watch soap operas rather than take that job you demand that they take. How does that make you feel?

I really don't take it personally at all, because I believe in the safety net of unemployment compensation, just like I believe in the safety net of social security. I've long since concluded that 3 minutes after the idea of currency or money was conceived, someone else was figuring an angle to cheat the first guy out of his money.

The fact that some may game the system doesn't mean the system is inherently bad.

Edit: I don't think I've ever said I despise anyone.

Substitute "watch soap operas" for "watch professional wresting"...and aren't we talking about you? :D

Re: Illegal Immigration IV: Amnesty For Some, Miniature American Flags For Others

"watch professional wresting"
It's a net gain for the economy to pay them to stay on the couch. ;)

I'd be willing to trade dollar for dollar decreasing unemployment after a fixed term for increasing day care. I have a hard time taking the morality of "work or die" seriously when we combine it with "but we won't give you the resources you need to work."

They're not getting 'paid' more than that unless they were already making far more than that pre-unemployment.

Oh here we go playing this game again. No one minces words like you.

Bingo. Which is why lower-paying jobs go unfilled.

So I'm polite or tactful?

So, some bandits are messing with the drug cartel smugglers coming into the U.S. with drugs. The cartels' answer? They send teams of assassins into Arizona to clean out the bandits, so they can continue to smuggle drugs in through Arizona unmolested. Sounds like a sound action on their part to ensure efficient, economic delivery of their product into the U.S. Sounds like fiction, but it's true. Yup, the border area is fully under control, as Napolitano claims.
