Ice Breaker Tournament: Clarkson vs. New Hampshire & Mercyhurst vs. Minnesota

Re: Ice Breaker Tournament: Clarkson vs. New Hampshire & Mercyhurst vs. Minnesota

Correct.

Win and we play at 7pm Saturday, lose and we play at 4pm Saturday.

The Gopher games (win or lose) will be on FSN.

Edit: double posts seem to be happening after their "maintenance" the other day.

The Clarkson v. UNH game on Friday isn't listed on Fox Sports North. Anyone have any other suggestions?

It was supposed to be on the Alternate channel but the channel guide only lists a D-III football game tomorrow afternoon. If they change the programing, it is channel 652 on Directv.

Gophers put on a speed, skill and D transition hockey clinic tonight, blocked lots of shots and shelled Tibbett with 48 SOG (Mercyhurst/25 SOG). Marshall took a blocked shot in the wrist and left the game injured to be evaluated. Cammarata, Kloos, and Condon line was especially fast and skillful; Lettieri and third line showed hard work and hustle along the walls; Rau, Warning, Fasching line with lots of shots in close...Rau with 3 pts.; Gopher PP looked excellent, D was fast in transition and Adam Wilcox was solid, making a couple big saves earning a well deserved shutout. Excellent job by the Gophers tonight...this will be a fun team to watch this season. Gophers 6, Mercyhurst 0. UNH tomorrow night.

Go Gophers! :)

Re: Ice Breaker Tournament: Clarkson vs. New Hampshire & Mercyhurst vs. Minnesota

Help - having a StubHub ticketing debacle. Got the wrong tickets for today, and I'm not entirely sure about tomorrow. Here's the situation:

First: Bought four tickets for the 4pm game today, seller sent me four tickets for Mercyhurst/Minnesota ("Game 2", it says on the ticket). Probably going to be able to fix this, but I may have 4 tix, on the glass in Section 19, for you Gophs fans. I am assuming Game 2 is in fact the 7pm game, right? No tricky math at the "U", is there?

Second: My tickets for TOMORROW (same seller, same seats) say "Game 3" on them. The tickets say Minnesota vs. Clarkson/New Hampshire. Again, I am ASSUMING that these are for the finals, but they also don't specify a time (when I bought them on StubHub, the SITE said 7pm). I got confused because the consolation game is at 4pm tomorrow, which is in fact the 3rd game in the tournament. Wait, now I'm confusing myself, because I may be holding the wrong tix for tomorrow too.

Can anybody shed a little light here?

OR... Is the "Game 2" ticket for ALL of Friday, and the "Game 3", for all of Saturday?? Oi vey.
As I'm sure you know by now, the Game 2 ticket is all day Friday, Game 3 is all day Saturday. The game number is referring to the ticket number in a Season Ticket package from the U. Last week against Lethbridge was game 1, two weeks from now against Boston College are games 4 and 5, etc.

Good summary! Lots of stars this evening - my vote for MVP tonight is Mike Reilly. Such poise and ability to make the right play, including knowing when to jump in on the offense. Hope we can keep him for another year or two...

Re: Ice Breaker Tournament: Clarkson vs. New Hampshire & Mercyhurst vs. Minnesota

That was fun. I was expecting to be wowed by Kloos and Camarata and have been, but am pleasantly surprised by Vinni as well. He has such a quick first step, gets up to top speed seemingly instantly. Shows some grit down low too. Thought I saw those things last weekend but had it confirmed last night.

Thought Jake was having a rough night for a while, but he really picked things up as the game went on, threw the best two hits of the night crushing guys and played solid position in the second half of the game. A little scary at times with Holl and Skjei as a pair because either one will jump up in the play and get down low in the O zone at a hint of an opportunity, fortunately both have enough speed to get back as needed.

And, We Get Culvers!

Re: Ice Breaker Tournament: Clarkson vs. New Hampshire & Mercyhurst vs. Minnesota

Should be a great final tonight. I guess I was a little surprised to see Clarkson get 34 shots on UNH's goalie. I did not get there in time to see any of the game, but for anyone who was there did Wyer play that well or were Clarkson's shots mostly of the easy routine variety? I understand their other goalie (DeSmith) will probably be in net for them tonight?

Re: Ice Breaker Tournament: Clarkson vs. New Hampshire & Mercyhurst vs. Minnesota

I agree with you Major. To expect freshmen to replace a near 50% scoring loss from guys like Bjugs, Haula, Schmidt, and Budish from last season is anecdotal at best.

The lost points don't have to fall solely on that of the incoming freshmen, some it can/should additionally come from returning players. How much no one knows...

Only one game against a so-so opponent, but they sure were fun to watch last night and the Fr impressed me across the board. Lot of pep in the skates and quite a bit of heady play. Obviously time will tell as the skill of their opponents ramps up, but there is certainly reason to expect some exciting hockey this season.

Apparently Tom Chorske doesn't think it's so anecdotal. He said on the broadcast last night that he thinks this squad could put up more points than last years squad.

I don't know if I would go that far, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised.

Far from routine. Several point blankers, a ton of scrapping in front of the net, and one notable stoning of a clean breakaway in the 3rd. I think that our fan base is generally jazzed that we have a senior leader who can back up DeSmith in the event he gets inconsistent, as was the case late last year.

Loved being in Mariucci for the first time yesterday. The fact that there were only 150-200 others there with me took away some of the allure. I'm sure that will change tonight. Look for the schmuck, center ice behind the penalty box, in the blue UNH sweater. Bringing 3 Gopher fans. You're welcome.

DeSmith tonight.

Good luck, Gophs - should be a great matchup of big-sheet teams.

Glad you're enjoying the experience. Should be a great game tonight. Have fun!

Re: Ice Breaker Tournament: Clarkson vs. New Hampshire & Mercyhurst vs. Minnesota

The Gophers showed some good poise, tenacity and consistent puck pursuit tonight against a good UNH team to come from behind to win the 2013 Ice Breaker Tournament. Credit the UNH Wildcats who applied lots of offensive zone pressure, blocked shots, and kept the game close up to buzzer.

I think the big story for the Gophers this weekend is the freshman class showed they're eager and ready to contribute some scoring this season with Gs from Kloos and Brodzinski last night and Fasching and Lettieri tonight. Fasching and Lettieri were especially impressive all weekend consistently storming the net and maneuvering into good scoring opportunities. Sam Warning was outstanding the entire weekend with his brand of blinding speed and clever puck movement on the top line, had a 4 pt. weekend (2-2-4) and was awarded MVP for the tournament. Another stellar performance tonight by Adam Wilcox, who made his biggest save of the weekend with 7 seconds left, sprawling out in the crease with an acrobatic glove save on a close range shot. Wilcox never ceases to amaze me at how well he sees the puck and has the agility to make the big saves when the game is on the line. Overall, excellent performance by a young Gopher squad who showed their dazzling speed, skill and transition game. This team has some amazing potential for a deep playoff run if they remain consistent.

Next weekend we get to pound some Beavers! ;)

Go Gophers! Rah! :)

Ditto, extremely entertaining Gopher hockey this weekend...love it. Excellent contributions from ALL of the freshman too. Hopefully we'll get that kind of effort and scoring consistently all season.

Chorske's statement is by definition "anecdotal" at this point in the season. I like what I see so far from this freshman class...but it's too early to make any predictions like that.

Re: Ice Breaker Tournament: Clarkson vs. New Hampshire & Mercyhurst vs. Minnesota

I've heard they are on FSN + tonight, not FSN. Big difference.

I'll say big difference. I recorded the channel that the xfinity/comcast guide indicated would be Gopher hockey only to find some college football game when I finally sat down to watch at 10pm.:mad:
