I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

Re: I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

Maybe God's telling them to not be such intolerant toolboxes.

Who, exactly, is being intolerant in this dustup? You have heard of the pesky First Amendment, right? Freedom of religion and all that rot. They haven't advocated discriminating against anyone. Nor have there been any suggestions they've discriminated against anyone. Nevertheless, idological homogeneity requires we do something about this dangerous Christian company and its chicken sandwiches. Including, evidently, making snarky middle school remarks about the death of a company executive.

'God' isn't a big fan of freedom of religion - "I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God."

They haven't advocated discriminating against anyone.

Except they did, but I agree that as a privately-held company, it's their right to disapprove of gay/lesbian couples and deny them partner/spousal benefits, as long as the law says they can. Just as it's the right of a group of people to boycott a company over perceived bigoted practices.

Only in some parallel reality is "disapproval" the same as "discrimination." The principals of the company have an opinion with which you disagree. This is most definitely not discrimination. It would be discrimination if they refused to hire or promote gays, but I haven't seen that claimed anywhere. It would be discrimination if they required franchisees to discriminate in the same way. I haven't seen that claimed, either.

You shouldn't want to eat a freakin' Christian chicken sandwich anyway, you might catch some Christian cooties.;)

Whatever God's opinion is of ecumenism its totally irrelevant, given that WE are governed by a Constitution and laws. This isn't a theocracy. But the efforts to punish apostates from gay orthodoxy suggest a desire for a different reality. The gay bully boys (and girls) really want to crush anyone who disagrees with them, and to h*ll with the First Amendment.

On his way out to the news conference announcing his determination to keep a perfectly legal business out of Boston (despite being obviously illegal) the mayor said: "Let's win one for the fairies." Nice.

It would be discrimination if they refused to hire or promote gays, or treated them badly once they were hired, but I haven't seen that claimed anywhere.

The First Amendment protects both freedom of speech and freedom of religion. It's been in all the papers. You shouldn't want to eat a freakin' Christian chicken sandwich anyway, you might catch some Christian cooties.

BTW: it's been my experience that people who quote the Bible, in reference to a secular matter, generally are blowing smoke. I am reminded of the Hebrew National hot dog commercial

They are. I'm Catholic. But I couldn't care less if two dudes want to get married. I don't know why the church thinks gay marriage is such an abomination, but you've got freaking GAME SHOWS where people get married at the end. THAT is bullcrap.

Like His Gaypanderness, my views on this matter are "evolving." As a general rule, I don't care what people do in their private lives (with certain exceptions, call them the Sandusky Rules). But having a different opinion on this matter is not intolerance, no matter how badly you want it to be.

The real intolerance here is public officials so anxious to pander to the gay rights crowd, they advocate breaking the law to do it. Certainly the Church has many outmoded ideas (in the mind of this protestant) but that isn't intolerance, it's faith. And it's protected by the First Amendment.

I remember when Tiny Tim married Miss Vickie on the Tonight show. A definite low point for that particular sacrament.

It's funny. But I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before someone hauls them into court.

They're Jews, not Christians, so for Hebrew Nationals it's diversity and respect for their religion, not religious dogma.*

*This coming from an avowed atheist. And this being the last thing I'll say on the matter in the death thread.

By George, he's got it. And when Calypso Louis refers to it as a "gutter religion," or JJ Sr refers to "Hymietown," it's all part of that "respect" thing. It can get so complicated. :)

Peanut oil is too delicious. :)

As an ex-Catholic, I thought the Bible was open to interpretation by individuals? The meaning of that particular line of the Bible is pretty clear to me; but then again, I can only claim a lowly MBA, not a Ph.D. in Theology.

On his way out to the news conference announcing his determination to keep a perfectly legal business out of Boston (despite being obviously illegal) the mayor said: "Let's win one for the fairies." Nice.

Source? If true, then obviously much of this debacle is the "poutrage" (© Kepler) of a politician pandering for votes - nothing new there.

I doubt Rome would agree to you being catholic... :)

Do I have to root for someone else to die so we can kill this debate? (Or at least move it somewhere else.)

I got it from this. I know, I know, a Tea Party Source. I'm always b*tching about people's standards. I should pay attention to my own posts and should have included "reportedly" or "allegedly" or "apparantly". But whether he said that or not, he's definitely walked back from the thrust of his comments: that he has the unilateral power to deny a perfectly legal business the right to set up shop in Boston. Uh, no.

Nice work with "poutrage."
