I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

Re: I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

Easy: X Brands. Who was not, of course, an Indian. Another favorite moment from that series occurred when somebody got the drop on Yancy and made him give up his weapons. There was one in his belt, one in his hat, one underneath his arm, one in his pants, etc. etc. It went on and on and on 'till he finally gave up about a half dozen of his namesake weapons. And, Jock Mahoney also appeared in at least one 3 Stooges short, playing a numbskull cowboy actor, IIRC.

I, of course, remember the Three Stooges episode of which you speak. And of course saw him in the Tarzan movies. Trivia number 2 for you-how many times did he appear as tarzan? In how many Tarzan movies was he an actor? (just trying to pass time before the hockey game in a couple hours.)

No clue. I know he doubled as Tarzan and starred as Tarzan but that's about it.

He played Tarzan twice-but was in a third Tarzan movie in which Gorgon Scott played Tarzan. But to be even a bit more picky and include TV-he guested on the Tarzan series a few times when Ron Ely played Tarzan. I did not know this either-Jenny is the Tarzan expert-I think she has seen them all and certainly read all the books. I suppose but am not sure that tarzan has been played by more actors than any other role in movies. I guess it all started with Elmo Lincoln in the silents.

Edgar Rice Burroughs lived in my home town. You may be right. There have been several Charlie Chans (none of whom were asian) but even more Tarzans. I was never much of a Tarzan fan as a kid. But I was a big fan of Flash Gordon. Charles Middleton (who played Ming the Merciless) was one of the all time film baddies. There is a Laurel and Hardy two reeler where Middleton is playing an orphanage meanie (naturally). And Ollie asks him: "How much would you charge to haunt a house?"

However, Tarzan and Flash share one significant attribute: They are both able to defeat opponants with vast advantages in both manpower and technology. Thus, Tarzan is able to outwit huge numbers of Nazis (led by Sig Ruman) none of whom think to just shoot the dude. Similarly, Flash is able to take down a guy who fancies himself "Emperor of the Universe" essentially alone. On more than one occasion, Flash hands the ray gun he's holding to a buddy, instead chosing to go up against Ming's people with a sword. In one serial, Ming has allied himself with Azura, Queen of Magic, on the planet Mars. She can turn people into clay, using the dreaded black saphire. Even so, by himself, Flash is able to take them both down!

And all without CGI. :)

I can add one thing to all of that-Buster Crabbe helped teach me to swim (at the Concord Hotel in the C.atskills). He was there doing a promotion (I think for a TV series called Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion-It was early to mid 50's. I remember he had just a rock solid body and the absolute smallest bathing suit I had ever seen on a man. It looked like a G-String. I never saw the TV show but he gave me a signed picture from the show(a promotional still) with him and some kid.

Bonnie Franklin, the mom from One Day at a Time, died from pancreatic cancer.

I remember catching that show in re-runs when I was a kid. It's been a while since I'd thought about the show at all.

I'm sure there's a pun here using the word Days and how you're a few days late or what not, but posted on the 1st:

I completely missed it tucked within the chatting about television and movies from 50-60 years ago.

Last veteran involved in the capture of Tojo

John J. Wilpers Jr., the last surviving member of the U.S. Army intelligence unit that captured former Japanese Prime Minister Hideki Tojo after World War II, has died at 93.

Wilpers died Thursday at an assisted living facility near his home in Garrett Park, Maryland, his son John J. Wilpers III said Monday.

Hugo has one foot on the banana peel.

Charisma only goes so far.

A severe new respiratory infection has hit cancer-stricken President Hugo Chavez and his condition is "very delicate," Venezuela's government says.

A brief statement read on national television by Communications Minister Ernesto Villegas late Monday carried the sobering news about the charismatic 58-year-old socialist leader's deteriorating health.

Re: I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

Gotta ask Jumpin Joe Kennedy.
I have visions of him being embalmed and giving 'orders' for a few more years before anyone decides that he is deceased (think Monty Python). Jumpin' Joe is helping with some of my elderly relatives' fuel so I can't get into dissing him.

They'll prop him up next to Fidel and Franco
