Re: I Think I'll Go For A Walk - Death Pool Thread

As much as I dislike her, recovery is an obvious hope. ;)

She was funny in two things I've seen: Beautiful Girls, and A League Of Their Own. The former her better performance, IMO.

"A League of Their Own" is on the very short list of the best sports movies ever. And Rosie was fine. But Hanks really had the lines, didn't he?

"I loved you in the Wizard of Oz" "Who's Lou?" "Avoid the clap, Jimmy Dugan." "That's good advice"

Oh it was a phenomenal movie. I was merely referring to Rosie O'Donnell's part.

I was just free associating. If she'd stuck to being a character actor and hosting a talk show where she wasn't such a pompous, obnoxious b*tch, she might still be on TV. Somewhere along the line, like so many people who make it big in show business, she began to think her popularity meant she was smart, and that people really ought to listen to her opinions.

Yes. Her speech in Beautiful Girls alone was enough quality*. The rest of her role was very good, though.

Yeah, that's nice right? Well, it doesn't exist ok. Look at the hair. The hair is long, it's flowing, it's like a river. Well, it's a ****ing weave ok? And the ****, please! I could hang my overcoat on them. **** by design were invented to be suckled by babies. Yes, they're purely functional. These are silicon city. And look, my favorite, the shaved pubis. Pubic hair being too unruly and all. Very key. This is a mockery, this is a sham, this is bull****. Implants, collagen, plastic, capped teeth, the fat sucked out, the hair extended, the nose fixed, the bush shaved... These are not real women, all right? They're beauty freaks. And they make all us normal women with our wrinkles, our puckered boobs, hi bob, and our cellulite feel somehow inadequate. Well I don't buy it, all right? But you ****ing mooks, if you think that if there's a chance in hell that you'll end up with one of these women, you don't give us real women anything approaching a commitment. It's pathetic. I don't know what you think you're going to do. You're going to end up eighty-years old, drooling in some nursing home, then you're going to decide, it's time to settle down, get married, have kids? What, are you going to find a cheerleader? Charge it Mitch.
Tommy: I think you're over simplifying.
Gina: Oh eat me. Look at Paul. With his models on the wall, his dog named Elle McPherson. He's insane. He's obsessed. You're all obsessed. If you had an once of self-esteem, of self-worth, of self-confidence, you would realize that as trite as it may sound, beauty is truly skin-deep. And you know what, if you ever did hook one of those girls, I guarantee you'd be sick of her.

Haven't heard anything about her in quite a while.
The last public event Phyllis Diller went to was her 25th wedding anniversary so they showed that the other night when Phyllis died. No update on whether she is next....

Before I posted my previous post, I Googled ZZG's name and noticed that there were numerous recent references to both her 25th and 26th anniversary. 26th is correct according to her marriage date in Wikipedia. Sorry about injecting math into this thread. ;)

BTW, I was starting to get a bit worried about you also since you haven't posted in the Lodge in a while. :D

Beautiful Girls is one of my favorite movies ever. It's just that good.

It really is a good movie.

For some odd reasons I've never seen it. I mean, I've seen "Killer Klowns from Outer Space," but not that. Fortunately I can separate the political beliefs of these idiots from their work. H*ll, there are some Jane Fonda movies I really like. And I'm a big Pete Seeger fan, too. Go figure.

I agree. So many of the stars are terrible people, but I am usually able to put that aside and still enjoy movies. Its a shame that Hollywood is so corrupted with evil, though. :(

What you both said. I can separate real life and movies.

And Old Pio, Beautiful Girls is kind of a rom com, but still stays kinda manly. It's not top 20 or anything, it is just a good movie and worth seeing.

It's always struck me as cutting off your nose to spite your face to deny yourself books, films, plays, music, TV shows because somebody is gay, Jewish, Communist (or even just very liberal) or whatever. I once saw Seeger in a concert at a Jewish community center on the far north side of Chicago. And sat next to and became friendly with Paul Turkel, Studs' kid. But Seeger was (and is) so genuine, so inclusive, with such a fun loving gentle approach, it's never been any trick at all for me to just not think about politics when listening to him. Even though many of the songs ARE very political. And if I denied myself films written, directed or starring people far more left than I am, I'd be left primarily with Disney movies. And I never cared for them all that much, even as a kid.

If I mixed politics and music, I would hate the majority of music I like. I'll say that.
