How much is your most treasured college hockey souvenir worth (actual)?

Re: How much is your most treasured college hockey souvenir worth (actual)?

WOW!!!!!!!

This guy is even ashamed of his Minnesota memorabilia!

Hey Slap Shot, there is NOTHING wrong with a Minnesota fan liking Minnesota and Minnesota stuff the best.

It's NORMAL!!

Slap Shot is the guy who goes around and yells at you for displaying too many flags in your yard on the 4th of July. God forbid you're patriotic.

You can't possibly be like this in real life?

Re: How much is your most treasured college hockey souvenir worth (actual)?

Yep. UND fan is cocky. No issue. Gopher fan is cocky, well he must be arrogant.

Welcome to the real World where things aren't sugar coated and honesty rules the day.
How was I cocky???????? Unfortunately someone had quoted me and you got to see it.

Re: How much is your most treasured college hockey souvenir worth (actual)?

No idea what it's worth, but this is my favorite non-MN related item. Sorry for the flash lol:

Very cool!

My room mate and team mate (bar league) in college (who was from New Prague) had the poster of Craig where he's wrapped in the flag after the game. Our living room had a hockey wall and that was prominent. I'd love to get that poster myself.

Was a cool and very mixed wall with Gophers, Badgers, North Stars and Blackhawks stuff.

You must be off your meds. How is he "ashamed of his Minnesota memorabilia?"

Coz he didn't show a photo of a Neal Broten item?

So now you're also calling out Slap Shot?

Just between you and I, I hear Brent is a poser fan too. Seriously. Watch him, you'll see. ;)

Re: How much is your most treasured college hockey souvenir worth (actual)?

Hey Gurt, maybe one day one of your little ones will be honored with the priviledge of being the 4th Sconnie in 90+ years to play for Minnesota. Between now and then, we'll keep your program going so that you can be upset that they didn't choose UW when that day comes ;)

That's not provincial, that's cool, hard reality.

Re: How much is your most treasured college hockey souvenir worth (actual)?

What happens on this board when you strike out 2,866 times in a row? There must be a place in Scooby's 9th circle for people like that.

Thanks, Gurt. You're a true hockey fan unlike ignore-boy. I have plenty of MN related stuff, but most of it is actually at the cabin (the only place I really have a man-cave) and I thought I'd go in a different direction by showing something that would probably be appreciated by wider variety of fans. I don't begrudge anyone for loving "their" team in the least but I love, love hockey and that will never be limited to MN.

Not that it matters, but I posted here a few years back about how when my father was very, very sick a neighborhood friend's father took it upon himself in the early 70's to take me to dozens of Gophers FB, BB and HKY games over the course of 3 seasons. It not only proved to be extremely therapeutic for a kid my age dealing with the thought of your dad dying, but made me the Gophers fan I've been ever since. I've lived and died with the Maroon and Gold for nearly 40 years. Love them. LOVE THEM. But it will never, ever be at the expense of my total appreciation for sports themselves, the participants, coaches and fans no matter the program. I love giving crap to rival fans, but in my heart the only difference is the program they support.

Why the hell should I not appreciate you or Dirty for instance loving your programs? College hockey is the sport above all and it wouldn't exist without you all. I have laughed, cried and virtually died with the Gophers for all these years and will until I can't any longer, but I support your love of the game every bit as my own even if you cheer for those godawful colors and goons on skates. I want the Gophers to pound BC this year but who can't recognize that program's success and wonderful coaching? Who can't love the Miracle on Ice as a MN hockey fan and still support what Johnson, Craig, Eruzione and Morrow meant to the team? Does it mean I don't love Broten, Buzzy or Brooks?

I loved growing up playing on ponds and outdoor rinks. I loved idolizing the MN kis that played in the Minnesota state tourament and think it's one of the greatest sporting spectacles anywhere on the planet, but does it mean what goes on in WI, NY or MI any less significant? Does it mean the kids and parents that dream of the NHL (or hell, just making it to the next game) are any less meaningful because they don't play in my favorite state?

What fans (I use that term looesely) like JDUBBS don't recognize is that you can support your team without fail but do so without disparaging others. Give them crap, rip them within reason and boast all you want, but there's a limit. This is a community and it deserves better than what JDUBBS brings to the table, our differences aside. Support your team, love them and sure snicker when your rival loses, but in the end rise above it all and love the game more than anything else.

I am pretty sure Doug Woog would understand everything I've said here. He never won the big one, but he LOVES college hockey and bleeds Maroon and Gold and the M, but he'll be the first to show appreciation for an opponent's accomplishments becuase he understands that the game itself is far more important than any one coach, player, state or program. God Bless the USCHO community and hockey in all.

Really nice post, Slap. Thanks.

Re: How much is your most treasured college hockey souvenir worth (actual)?

Sorry Slap Shot, but you gave me massive grief just for being "too provincial", long before things became warped.

I appreciate the fact that Minnesota has a history of recruiting in Minnesota. That matters to me. It apparently doesn't to you. But instead of leaving to each his own, you criticized me.

I have no problems with fans of other teams. But I'm not going to pretend the fact that the Gopher's history of recruiting in-state wasn't important just because some fans from other teams don't appreciate it.

It's special. It sets our program a part. And when someone throws 7 > 5 or some of that other stuff out there, Gopher fans can and should be able to bring that up.

And your problem with that fact, and need to be hostile and confront people who bring it up, is as troubling as anything I've said.

Re: How much is your most treasured college hockey souvenir worth (actual)?

Yeah, great post. Great job attributing me to things I've never said. Not once have I said the accomplishments of other teams don't matter.

News Flash man. I think Minnesota hockey is better than hockey any where else. I like our community-based youth system. I love our high school league and tourney. I love that we can watch our kids grow up and play at home youth thru college. That is more true here than anywhere else.

It's special.

I like the fact that the Gophers gave local kids opportunities when few other college teams were. I love the fact that we won it all, multiple times, with only local kids, and no one else has been able to do that.

It's special.

But guess what? I also like watching hockey elsewhere. I go to USHL games with my brother. I like following our National teams. I'm ok with the Gophers recruiting out of state.

I appreciate our rivalries with other teams. Our history wouldn't be nearly as fun without them.

Being provincial doesn't mean I don't respect or appreciate other programs or hockey elsewhere. I have never said that. I just think our hockey and our teams are better. And guess what, people elsewhere think their hockey and their teams are better. And that's ok!!!

Re: How much is your most treasured college hockey souvenir worth (actual)?

Btw great thread idea. The only cool memorabillia I have are tickets. I have kept almost all of my ticket stubs of every year that I have been a college hockey fan. Their value is only sentimental. I also have my tickets from the 2011 F4 and the Duluth News Tribune from the day after.

Not sure what to do with all my tickets but I love to keep them.

If you truly, truly are unable to distinguish between what you have done on this board, and what Slap Shot is talking about, then you are lost, and I seriously mean that. Do I think Minnesota is the greatest program in college hockey? **** right I do. Do I expect (hell, want?) fans of other programs agreeing with that? Absolutely not. One, what would be the fun of that (there would be no rivalries), and two, that would make absolutely no sense. You lack empathy and perspective, JDUBBS. Put yourself in FS23, J.D., Gurtholfin, etc.'s shoes as a North Dakota, BC, and Wisconsin fan, respectively. Do you really think they are going to think Minnesota is the greatest college hockey program in the world? You clearly do not agree with anything anyone else says on here, so why would they agree with you? There is a difference between saying "I think Minnesota is the greatest college hockey program in the world, and here is why" on a thread dedicated to Minnesota hockey on this website, and doing what you have done. Again, if you do not see that, then you deserve every bit of vitriol that comes your way, from both Minnesota fans and others. And that's all I have to say 'bout that.

Yes, all of this that you say is OKAY to have as an opinion, but again, this is not what you have done on this board. And that is what the vast majority of people on here are saying. Scooby, Slappy, me, and other Minnesota fans agree that Minnesota high school hockey is an awesome phenomenon to behold, but if you are unable to comprehend that someone from Massachusetts, Maine, North Dakota, etc., disagrees with you on that, that is where the problem is.

Re: How much is your most treasured college hockey souvenir worth (actual)?

By the way Slap Shot, Johnson was born in Minnesota. His dad was raised in Minnesota and played for the Gophers.

Why do I bring this up? Do you think Johnson would have even played hockey, let alone as well as he did, if Bob Johnson was born in Madison?

Maybe. But I think Minnesota hockey was a shaping force and influence that made Bob what he was, and helped Mark become what he was.

Definitely a provincial view point. But also is a very reasonable one too. The difference between you and I is that I don't tip toe around the reality of the situation.

It was a great idea and was carrying on nicely for a while.

Base for an epoxy bar top in your man cave some day? I've seen stuff like that done really well, and also poorly. Could be cool though.
