How College Hockey Inc. sells our game vs Major Junior...

Re: How College Hockey Inc. sells our game vs Major Junior...

Please educate yourself on this issue....the standard OHL education package is merely the floor in terms of negotiations. Elite level players, especially Americans, are given much more than just tuition based on prices closest to their homes.
So in order to get a better package, they have to have negotiating leverage. In other words, only the best prospects will be able to negotiate a better deal - the very players who aren't as likely to use it. Good deal for the CHL, bad deal for the majority of players who can't negotiate a better package.

Correct. What you, however, must understand is that the "majority" of the other players who could not negotiate a premium package with their respective CHL teams would also not be granted full scholarship packages by NCAA teams, as college programs reserve those for the "best" players as well.

In short its a wash.

I fail to see how the CHL's baseline offer is equivalent to even a half scholarship at a school like CC/DU/Michigan/Notre Dame/Minnesota/etc.

I'd ask you to try to educate me, but I fear that's inevitable anyway.

Easy, if a player is from the South East Michigan region, his base tution will be arournd 18k per year (the assumed average for the price of tution in that area). That is worth at least a half scholarship.

That is assuming he is from that area. A player could be from an area where tuitiotion in the area is very cheap and he'd have a better deal educational wise going to the NCAA. Let's say he's from Idaho. Now he could take that CHL package and go to his local school or take an offer and go to a BU, CC, or Notre Dame. The NCAA offer sounds like a much better deal.

Sure....but again it all depends. We have to assume that he is not your "elite" player and will not garner a full ride from a BU or Notre Dame. Then how much will Notre Dame be offering him. If they are giving him a 1/2 scholarship, then yes it would be worth more than the standard WHL package he is entitled to (again, assuming that tuition is cheap in Idaho) but what if they are only offering him a 1/3rd? Does it become worth it then????

This of course does not mean that signing with a WHL team will preclude him from getting an education (the main erroneous beef here from posters like RWD). The issue then is no longer receiving an education, since we have proved that one can be attained by going the CHL route, but where you want to receive that education and how much you want to pay for it.

Why do you all keep questioning jnacc? He's all-knowing and is always right. Just stop before you're too far behind as it is obvious none of you can handle his vast intellect.

You're still ignoring the basic facts here. The majority of NCAA players get full scholarships - a few per team don't. If there is a team that gives out a lot of partials, then ~half the team gets a full scholarship and everyone else gets about a 50% scholarship. AND EVERY ONE OF THEM ATTENDS CLASSES AND 90+% GRADUATE WITH A DEGREE. Elite, non-Elite, it doesn't matter. With 18 full scholarships to divide among about 25 players, generally every player on the ice (12 F 6 D 2 G) is getting a full ride or close to it.

Never mind. I hate to say it, but Dirty's right here. I'm done.

No the majority are not getting full scholarships. On say a team like Notre Dame, with 27 listed players, about 10 may receive a full package. The other 8 are divided up among the remaining 17 players. Of those, some may receive 75% while others may only garner 25%....far from close to a "full ride".

Sorry if reality disappoints you....have fun playing with dirty.

Speaking of disappointment, why hasn't the lesson begun yet? It makes me sad.

Ohhh sorry dirty but a you were kind of a indisposed at the time....I really did try and get your attention but a you looked sort of a really into it so I thought it'd be better if I left you alone....

Cheer up ole boy, there might be a next time.....if of course you'll be able to a "control" yourself.

Using your numbers - 10 full rides, 8 with 75%, 8 with 25% - that's 26 players - at least one guy per team is a walk-on, typically a lot more. So 18 players get either a full ride scholarship or close - 75%. How many dress for a game? 18. As I said, and using your numbers, generally every player on the ice is getting a full ride or close to it. Those are your numbers, and they make my point. I don't consider a 3rd or 4th liner or a 6th defenseman to be "elite". Even if you just count the very small number of full rides you quoted, that could be split between 6 forwards, 3 defensemen, and 1 goalie. I don't consider the weakest 2nd liner and a 3rd defenseman "elite" either.

So you're not fulfilling on your promised duty? You're never going to be the respected educator you aspire to be with this sort of laissez faire attitude. I'm very disillusioned right now. Perhaps I was mistaken in my choice of mentor?

Tell me is 50% a full ride? Is 75% a full ride? Nope...only 100% is a full ride and on average there are only about 10 of these on any given team. The other 8 are distributed very carefully. One player may only start with a 33% with the promise of an increase to a 50% the following year if certain conditions are met.

Now if a player is good enough to elicit a 75% scholarship offer from Notre Dame, he will more than likely be good enough to garner an equally acceptable scholarship offer from an OHL club.....the point here is that, despite what Paul Kelly would have you believe, a player is not necessarily throwing away a 35K package because he chooses to play in the CHL.

Again dirty I tried but you were indisposed at the time.....sorry I let you down....but there's only so much I can do and god knows you need so so much. ;)

Re: How College Hockey Inc. sells our game vs Major Junior...

why doesn't Jnacc just post on CHL boards and get off NCAA Boards?

what are there like 2 people who give a **** about the CHL?

Now you're just lying, you never tried. Why don't you want to share you infinite knowledge? We could all learn so much from you. You're truly depriving the world with your inaction.
