Re: Hockey East Tourney Thread - 2010

Picks anyone?

I'm gonna guess Northeastern and BU will advance to the semis.

Re: Hockey East Tourney Thread - 2010

QFs
Northeastern over UConn- I think NU really has UConn solved, their defense is scary and Syulma is quite the goaltender. The question is really whether NU can generate enough offense but I'll go ahead and say yes.

BC over BU- Might be sandbagging a little bit but with Kohanchuk and now Lorms and Kirchner out with injuries, BU only has 1 or 2 legitimate lines of forwards at best. Tied last game and barely scrapped out a win the game before. BC might be more motivated as this is their last chance to salvage a disappointing season.

SFs.

PC over BC- PC is the better team at this point and of course home ice doesn't hurt. I do think this will be a very competitive game though.

UNH over NU- Don't think NU will be able to generate the offense needed to beat UNH.

Finals

UNH vs. PC- I think this is a toss up but I'll be bold and say that UNH finally breaks through and knocks off PC when it matters most.

Re: Hockey East Tourney Thread - 2010

Breaks through? They've been beating PC in HEA finals for years now ;)

But I agree with your BC thoughts.

Re: Hockey East Tourney Thread - 2010

This tourney is wide open. I'll take BC over NU in the final in a totally unbiased prediction.

Re: Hockey East Tourney Thread - 2010

Quarterfinals:

#6 Boston College over #3 Boston University
---As has been mentioned, BU is missing a ton of talent.

#5 UConn over #4 Northeastern
---It's tough to beat the same team three times in a row, and Northeastern is really struggling lately. They barely scraped by UConn this weekend. Sorry (NU) Husky fans :(

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Semifinals:

#6 Boston College over #1 Providence College
---Providence just doesn't scare me. BC's gonna be feeling it.

#5 Connecticut over #2 New Hampshire
---UNH has been struggling lately. I am really not thinking this is their year. Finally.

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Finals:

#6 Boston College over #5 Connecticut
---The bottom seed in the tournament, Boston College, wins the Hockey East Championship ushering in a new era full of chippity. Chippity lovers everywhere sing from the mountaintops.

You can tell a dream versus a prediction when somebody picks the lower seed to win all five games.:p

Well as a certain friend often says "You got a better chance of seeing Jesus at four o'clock, and its 4:15."

Re: Hockey East Tourney Thread - 2010

Seriously though, if you don't think 1 through 6 in this tournament - or at the very least 1 through 5, for those of you nonbelievers - all have a realistic chance at the title, you're the one who's dreaming.

I mean, come on:

#2 UNH: 5th in RPI
#5 UC: 7th in RPI
#4 NU: 9th in RPI
#1 PC: 12th in RPI
#3 BU: 13th in RPI

You can't tell me this tournament isn't a total crapshoot. Even #6 BC, at 24th in RPI, has been playing great of late and has seemingly found a new gear. Not only that, but by RPI they have the most favorable bracket possible - #6 BC plays #5 BU (who is missing three of their best players) and then would play #4 PC in the semis.

So, I would say that all 6 teams have as good a chance as any other in this tournament. It's kind of awesome.

UNH basically has an auto bid wrapped up and UConn is one spot up on NU in RPI/PWR, so that's why I want NU to win it. I just couldn't believe it if Northeastern actually made the tournament after the last few seasons. For that to happen though, there has to be less pressure on our goalies. As it stands lately, we need to shut opponents out in order to win. Kehoe & Co will have to step up and score/keep the pressure in the other end.

This is also why I think PC may be extra motivated. There is little chance of them moving on unless they win Hockey East.

Re: Hockey East Tourney Thread - 2010

only one host team has ever won the hockey east tournament...

Hmmmmmm, interesting factoid.

If you mean the same host has been the only host to ever win you are correct. If you mean it individually Didn't UNH host in '07 and '09 and didn't they win the tourney each year.

That is also misleading. They kept it in Boston the first 4 years and coincidently 2 of the 3 years NU hosted they did not even make the tourney. The other year in Boston was given to BU when they as a still fledgling team they failed to make the tourney.

Yeah I agree. And that can be said for basically every team outside UNH. However I think if NU wins the QF then UConn won't get the autobid theyre bordering on right now.

Re: Hockey East Tourney Thread - 2010

Not having the patience to align all the columns, I refer you to the Hockey East Conference season stats page, which tells the story of the season by numbers instead of perception.

Of course head to head history tells another story.

Cavbim is right! And because I took the slanted statistics as a curse on our chances:eek: , I did go out and align the columns. What it shows you is that every year except one, the Season Champion did win the tournament, regardless of where it was held.

Naturally, this year the field is much, much tighter, but statistically speaking....

Year Season Champion Tournament Held Tournament Champs

02-03 Providence (13-1-1) @NU PC Tournament Champs

03-04 UNH (17-1-2) @NU PC Tournament Champs

04-05 PC - 14-4-2 @BU PC Tournament Champs
UNH - 13-3-4

05-06 UNH (19-1-1) @NU UNH Tournament Champs

06-07 UNH (18-1-2) @UNH UNH Tournament Champs

07-08 UNH (20-0-1) @Uconn UNH Tournament Champs

08-09 UNH (16(1)-2-3) @UNH UNH Tournament Champs
