Hockey East: Rookie of the Weak

Re: Hockey East: Rookie of the Weak

Nice work Stevie....more interesting than reading about possible line combos.;) Will there be an all-HE milk cartoon version at the end of the season?

I believe the annual award is known as the Dan Spang award.

Re: Hockey East: Rookie of the Weak

After an ugly weekend full of beat downs and ties, hockey east still has four teams that are winless. Here is why...

Marc Boulanger – G, UML – Despite a remarkable improvement over last week’s performance, Boulanger finds himself on the list this week in place of his counterpart, Doug Carr. After giving up four goals to Maine during his 40 minutes of extended garbage time while in relief of Carr in the opening game of the season, Boulanger followed up that performance by giving up another four spot this weekend to RIT – albeit this time it took the full 60 minutes to do so. Even though Maine and RIT are both legitimate contenders to some; they both have their own considerable question marks in goal making them suspect to an upset when facing even the most mediocre of opponents. However, October drama was averted, and Marc’s 4.62 GAA and .867 save % is a big reason why Lowell remains winless.

Adam Clendening – D, BU – Contravening Clendening learned how quickly one goes from hero to zero in fanboy nation. After his three point outburst against uber-squat Toronto earned him a lifetime invite to slumber parties in Rogie’s basement, Clendening has fallen back to earth some amassing only one point through three games that actually count. This should be star defensemen found himself with no points in this weekend’s tilt with Jeff Teglia's UMass squad; though he did pick up a minus and a two minute time out during a third period choke to the winless Minutemen. He currently finds himself tied in points with all-american candidates Garrett Noonan and Justin Courtnall. Suddenly the grass isn’t looking greener on the campus with no grass. No truth to the rumor that Clendening recently downloaded ‘London Calling’ to his iPod.

Mark Adams – D, PC – Another embarrassing member of the Adams family. Mark, who was somehow drafted by the Buffalo Sabres, had a forgettable weekend during a two game sweep by the UMD Bulldogs. In his first masterpiece, a lazy Adams was whistled for a hook late in the second period of a 3-2 game resulting in a penalty shot – the successful conversion of which ultimately proved to be the game winner. Then during Saturday’s clincher, He followed up his Friday abortion with another defensive debacle amassing a minus two and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in a 7-1 nail biter.

Re: Hockey East: Rookie of the Weak

Former Hockey East goalies are off to a good start in the NHL, if you look at save percentage HE has 5 of the top 8,
and you could throw out the #1 guy because he only has 10 saves.

Thomas #2 UVM
Schneider #3 BC
Quick #6 UMass
Howard #7 maine
Roloson #8 UML

couldnt find a better place to post this so sorry if its off topic

Re: Hockey East: Rookie of the Weak

Another weekend is in the books, and another round of ugly hockey has sickened us all. Thankfully bu's <strike>easy schedule</strike> resurgance has carried the flag world wide for an otherwise pitiful hockey east

Third star (1 point):
5622469.jpeg

Adam Clendening – D, BU – despite a pair of games with moribund providence and winless umass for the terriers, Clendening was again unable to muster any points on the weekend. To make matters worse, he finished with no shots in either game, and was on the ice for multiple goals against in picking up a net minus one on the weekend. Clendening stands at one point through five games.

Second star (3 points):
MHKY_Brickley.jpg

Connor Brickley – F, UVM – to the winless go the spoils! This still winless catamount makes his first appearance on the list despite only having one game on the weekend (thanks in part to a largely uneventful slate around the league). Brickley picked up a minus one, recorded only one shot on goal, and was assessed a two minute minor for slapping after the whistle in a weekend tie with the Merrimack Warriors. Like his pen-pal, Clendening, Brickley stands at one point through three games of the young season

Eric Filiou – F, UMA – A runaway winner this week, Filiou had a miserable weekend in his bout with BU. In limited fourth line duties, Filiou managed to be on the ice for three of the four goals against his last place squad. The end result was a merciful minus two as one of the goals against was on the powerplay. Filiou was unavailable for comment but we believe he would have said something to the effect of being thankful that he was finally able to help Umass win something.

Dishonorable mention: Cody Ferriero, Kevin Hayes, Nick Sorkin.

Re: Hockey East: Rookie of the Weak

Wait, what?

sar·casm [sahr-kaz-uhm] –noun
1. harsh or bitter derision or irony.
2. a sharply ironical taunt; sneering or cutting remark: a review full of sarcasms.

A form of irony in which apparent praise conceals another, scornful meaning. For example, a sarcastic remark directed at a person who consistently arrives fifteen minutes late for appointments might be, “Oh, you've arrived exactly on time!”
.

Re: Hockey East: Rookie of the Weak

The CCHA Rookie of the Weak Fantasy Hockey League has a shortage of weakly rookies. There must be at least one HE team that would be willing to release a few talent-shy rookies to say, UND, and even up the competition both fantasy and real.

breaking news: we interrupt your regularly scheduled election day whining to give you something else to complain about. enjoy!

Matt Nieto – F, BU – The Boston University world beater tour rolled on this weekend as the Terriers disposed of perennial juggernaut Umass-LoL in a weekend sweep to keep their undefeated season intact. The Terriers were even so fortunate as to finally break their pesky streak of one goal wins against terrible teams for the first time in seven tries. Unfortunately, the fanboy bandwagon must have left face paint station without Matt Nieto, who mustered no points on the weekend. Though his net plus one is usually enough to keep one off this listing, we couldn’t help but laugh when the daily BUSCHO front page article blowing BU could only praise Neito’s paltry two point season by saying ‘but he gets lots of chances.’ We think he will also get no shortage of chances for a first star award or two on this list as this season progresses.

Second star (3 points):

Ferriero.jpg

Cody Ferriero – F, NU – Northeastern’s attempt to take down more cupcakes in a weekend than Yankeefat failed miserably as the Huskies were instead swept by two sisters of the poor, Holy Cross and Bentley (or BANTLEEEEEE as they would say on MTV’s Teen Mom). Did you even know Bentley played D-1 hockey? Ferriero, who you might remember reneged on his commitment to Boston College over <strike>scholarship money</strike>…. Er <strike>ice time</strike>…. Er physical play…?, was certainly physical in the Friday night cripple fight with Holy Cross. His efforts, however, were misinterpreted as cheating and only rewarded with three trips to the penalty box. His third time-out of the night resulted in the game tying goal that would ultimately send the game into overtime where the huskies would eventually lose. Ferriero further complimented his prolific hat trick with a minus one he obtained earlier on while skating around aimlessly during the Crusader’s first goal in only the opening minutes of the game. His six minutes of extra rest resulted in 60 minutes of even more rest as he was benched the next night and missed out on the 2-1 slap fight loss to Bentley.

Marc Boulanger – G, UML – A deserving award for the most terrible goalie on the most terrible team. Boulanger is routinely serving up more abortions than a planned parenthood clinic. Roe v Wade protesters beware! He has been good (bad?) for at least four or five goals against every night; and most nights he hasn’t even survived the full 60 minutes. Our latest installment saw Marc, with a c, give up a five spot to the Terriers in only 40 minutes of action on Friday night. To make matters worse, he then watched as Doug Carr shook off mediocrity just enough to hold the same Terriers to a mortal two goals over the next 80 minutes of play. Unfortunately for Marc, this award doesn’t even take into consideration the Tuesday night debacle vs. BC – which puts Boulanger as the front runner for a repeat in this spot next week.

Dishonorable mention: Anthony Bitetto

Re: Hockey East: Rookie of the Weak

Can't argue with Ferriero, and Bitetto caused HC's second goal by falling down and giving up a 2-on-1, so he deserves a mention for that horrific play.

Re: Hockey East: Rookie of the Weak

Whew! I was hoping BU's 4 pt weekend wouldn't keep them off this. Also Steve - UMass Lol?? Hee! Was this late cuz you were waiting for the BC-Lowell game last night? I knew there was another reason to hate Tuesday games. I was trying to figure to which BU player you would include this week right after Saturday's game.

Re: Hockey East: Rookie of the Weak

Steve,

How many more weeks does Bill Arnold (#13 forward on INCH list) have to go scoreless before he gets a piece of the action? :)
