Hockey East Preseason Thread. Predict and Win Eternal Glory

Re: Hockey East Preseason Thread. Predict and Win Eternal Glory

If I have it right, NU basically outplayed everyone all season long but it was bad luck that led to poor results the first half of the year?

Re: Hockey East Preseason Thread. Predict and Win Eternal Glory

You realize those are highlights, right? There is never a score bar in the graphic. The game wasn't on TV.
The game was offered on NCHC.tv. You either had to be a subscriber, or pay to see the game that day on a one-time basis. However, anyone who paid to see a third place game in the NCHC tournament, in which both teams had already secured a seed in the NCAA's, is just stupid. I'm a UND fan, and an NCHC.tv subscriber and I didn't even watch that game.

I thought you said you love in your grandma's basement. I only assumed you were one of those people who spends all day online commenting about "how you changed your life by clicking this link and now make $30 an hour doing nothing"

It's not a question as to whether you're "satisfied" or not (personally I could care less).

Objectively, many of your fellow BC fans have been on the record long AND loud that a regular season title (see small letters) means jack squat, and winning some legitimate hardware (see Hockey East Tourney Champions - see those capital letters) means more than winning a few regional games (small letters again) but not winning the whole enchilada. I'm pretty sure last season resulted in no new hardware at The Heights, unless they've changed their standards recently when I wasn't paying closer attention.

I don't want to be a spoilsport - like you're apparently trying to do with the NU fans - but I think you'll likely have noticed some of the usually more vociferous BC posters have gone quiet on this.

Hmmmm ... why might that be???

Jesus Chuck, I think it's pretty obvious that BC, especially with the standards we hold the team to, pretty much failed last year. It was a good season, they won some games and go to a Frozen Four, but by any objective standard BC fans have, they didn't win any significant hardware (please spare me the talk about the ****pot). BC hasn't won any postseason hardware since 2012. That 4 year stretch has not been seen since 1994-1997 (Cedorchuk's last year plus York's first 3). That's pretty nuts.

Ha, definitely not used to it but they still do have two FF appearances in the last four years. That is still significant.

You know, I had been pretty happy for NU finally getting off the schneid, after this thread I think I'm back to rooting against them.

I think we're on the same page. I was just pointing out how (relative newbie) Cross Check's take on why BC had a better season than NU might be faulty. I was pretty sure guys like you and JD wouldn't disagree.

Please don't think that one or two fans on a board represent the mindset of the majority. Most of us (I think) are pretty reasonable and easy to talk to. Many NU fans understand that last year's results have zero bearing on this year, and are tempering expectations due to inexperienced D and differing opinions on Ruck. No one I know is expecting NU to come out and win 22 of 23 again. Top 4-6 in HEA is the expectation, with a decent shot at a first round bye.

NU finally wins something of substance, and many people congratulate them/their fans when it happens, only to have one or two bad apples ruin it for the rest of us. The joys of the internet.

Maybe, maybe not. The staple of the York era has been teams that had intangibles and were built for the postseason. The last few have been clearly faulty, racking up wins in the winter months with the inherent talent but lacking the finer points that usually pulled them through to national titles and HE titles with lesser talented teams.

As you know, NU's case was exceptional. Caught a few teams in off years in the league, caught some teams on bad nights, and still had a one in a million run with a dopey coach and a ragtag group of players that really is short on talent. Not even worth discussing, we'll let them have their day in the sun and they can go back to sitting in the shade for the next 30 years.

It's time to stop rolling over. There are 4 legitimate hockey programs in Boston and not just BC and BU any longer.

Mad Dog and Keefer have done a great job recruiting. They've networked with several elite NHLPA "advisor" groups who are encouraging their stables to give NU strong consideration. That was something that was lacking in the Cronin era. They are highly visible at all major tournaments and are proactive in meeting the parents and the players.

This team went toe to toe with BU two years ago in 2 out of 3 meetings and was a bad call away from a Beanpot. They won Hockey East this year through sheer domination and an unprecedented run. It's time to stop being polite to the nose in the air BU/BC/UML crowd and demand the respect that this specific team and the program that the coaches have built deserves. If that makes be a "bad apple" then so be it.
