Hockey East 2020-2021

It turns out that seven (7) Hockey East games were played this weekend but few in the Hockey East forum seem to be interested in Hockey East hockey anymore.

Probably scared away by a couple people who absolutely refuse to allow this thread to be about the hockey being played.

And speaking as a militant Independent, I would observe that overt disrespect and inability to debate without ad hominem attacks and name calling are not exclusive to the political right.

Split....please provide examples where this is true. I don't have the time to at this moment but, I could easily supply 10 plus examples of Chuck and Jeb acting in this manner. If you respond with examples of "left leaning" posters acting in this manner, I will respond tomorrow in kind with examples from Chuck and Jeb. Pretty sure you won't find anywhere near as many examples from "our side". And yes, the amount of bad behavior matters.

Just because it's happening doesn't mean I have to agree with it. It's mostly just pandering to the people who want to shame them for playing in the first place.

Or more likely, someone in the organizations who are playing with masks made the decision it is the right thing to do.

You of course have no evidence of it being pandering in any way and instead are choosing to flame-throw on the issue.

My post was general in nature and not in the context of posters on this forum. The fact remains that political discourse in this country has descended into a cesspool of intolerance on the part of both the left and right. Nobody knows how to agree to disagree anymore. A plague on both houses.

Back when Hockey East agreed they were going to play, they couldn't decide on a policy for either wearing masks or not wearing them? There was no leading expert saying masks need to be worn in a scenario where the athletes are being closely monitored and tested? Why aren't they wearing masks in college basketball or the NBA? It's just up to every individual school? With BC football not having any issues and men's hockey not having any so far, does BC have dumb people in charge because they aren't mandating masks? So yes, I think if someone is making these players wear masks i absolutely think it's pandering. Not sure how i would prove it as I don't have access to emails and recorded phone calls. It's just an opinion.

BC did NOT get through the year though with no negative tests. They had positive tests before playing Virginia.

Couple more examples I missed earlier

UConn women have had masks on

http://hockeyeastonline.com/women/ar...-hampshire.php

Merrimack men and women are wearing them

https://merrimackathletics.com/news/...t-huskies.aspx
https://merrimackathletics.com/news/...-the-week.aspx

I just find this very odd that the women's programs seem to be taking this much differently than the men.

Jesus Christ, zlax. They did not have positive "tests". They had ONE positive from someone returning to school from going home for Thanksgiving. Had absolutely nothing to do with playing football. The only other positive test was from way back in the summer when everyone first reported to campus. Having two positive tests from end of June to now is outstanding. Stop trying to turn it into something it isn't like some major problem or huge outbreak.

If there is a difference between men and women wearing a mask then who is making the decision? Can't be an administrator. Is it coming from the coach? The players deciding on their own?

BC Football did about as well as could be hoped for with regards to COVID. Interesting they are opting out of attending any bowl game (presumably due to Covid concerns??) . It would be interesting to know what they did different from other teams, or how much luck may have played into it.

Regarding masks, it is pretty clear to anyone with half a brain that they are helpful in "normal life" settings. Are they as useful in athletic situations where players are tested and in a semi-bubble? We don't know for sure, but clearly different organizations are treating it differently so there is obviously no league wide directive.

Not sure that is true. Syracuse, Colgate and Clarkson women all played without masks.

Eric, leading up to the bowl game Jeff Hafley was looking for a way to reward the team for the sacrifices they made in order to play a football season. Traditionally a bowl game is all about the experience, you know, "bowl week". With that part of it not really in play this year they let the players decide between a bowl game or going home and spending Christmas with their families. Families a lot of them haven't seen since June. Players reportedly voted to go home and BC administration accepted that. And I don't blame the players at all here. I totally understand their decision.

The AD also said they didn't want to be in a position where they prepare for a bowl, players can't go home to their families and then the bowl game gets canceled last minute.

And BC isn't the only team to bail out of a bowl game as Syracuse, Virginia, and Stanford have all announced they will not be playing in bowls this year.

In Hockey East Women's side, we have the following:

Masks Wearing
Merrimack
UConn
Providence
BC (wore them at Providence but did not at UNH or home games)
Holy Cross
UNH
BU
Maine

Not wearing masks:
BC
Northeastern

Haven't played
Vermont (Looking at IG, it looks like they practice in masks)

That list makes no sense. You have both UNH and Providence as wearing masks. So then if that's the case how/why would an evil non masker like BC wear them at Providence but not UNH?

Knowing the family of a starting BC player whose other kids I coached about a decade ago, I can confirm this to be 100% true. And I agree, the players got it right. This isn't the year to put the "Cheez-It Bowl" ahead of time back home with family.

Makes sense to me. And IF they were quarantined in a more significant way than other teams in order to get through the season with so few cases, it makes even more sense they would be at a point where they wanted to call it a successful run and close it out.

1. The Half a brain thing. Would love to know what area is crushing the virus because of masks, I would love to take a look at that data, please provide if you can? Because in reality the virus curve is following literally almost to a T the exact same progression. California has the strictest measures in the Country and they have nothing to show for it compared to other areas.

And actually decades of research & study, you know, science, says that they are not helpful in a public setting, especially healthy people. That is why they have never been recommended.

Covid cases are falling in uniform across the upper Midwest, regardless of what mitigations were put in place. Iowa, SD & ND have some of the most lax FYI. All of these states peeked within 6 days of each other.

2. In regards to athletes wearing masks. I would love to see the data that masks with extremely poor hygiene work and in addition to that, recommend for a healthy person to wear.

Asking totally healthy people to behave like they are sick is nothing but a complete charade.

I find myself agreeing with BC and BC people way too much lately. Bad for my psyche. Starting to foam at the mouth about the NU/BC home-and-home first weekend of 2021.
