Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Same as the WJC camp where I watched last year.

So you watched the WJC camp? Surprised they let you in. Figured there would have been a restraining order involved somewhere.

Think Boston fans are tough on him. Look and see what a hockeytown where his dad is liked rates him.

Are you talking about Bruins fans? Who cares? And I think I'm all set with Pittsburgh fans' thoughts on a guy most haven't seen play at BC. I'll trust my own eyes.

Dumoulin was +40, thats a fantastic rookie season. His success was playing for BC

OK, if you're using fantastic for Dumoulin...fine, Samuelsson was not Dumoulin. Obviously. He had a pretty good freshman season and contributed to the success of the team.

Samuelsson will be overshadowed by Dumoulin, Wey, Sneep (1 year)

Overshadowed by Wey in the long run? Quite possibly, but not last year. Also, as great as Sneep was offensively, I don't think Samuelsson was overshadowed by him on the defensive end.

I think he has upside. And his consistency wasn't really an issue, he really didn't have terrible games, just consistently ok/good with a few flashes here and there.

Agreed. Not an all star in Hockey East, but better than hokydad gives him credit for.

Dumoulin was +40, thats a fantastic rookie season. For crying out loud Ed Shea and Patch Alber both had better +/- than he did

His success was playing for BC

And yet Wey, Cross and Sneep both had far worse +/- ratios.

You can't use +/- and then ignore it when it doesn't help your point.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Yeah, I'd say Collins and Ellis have the best shot at being every game players. I see Heywood competing with Demers (who I think has a chance to be pretty good himself) for the 6th D spot. And you're absolutely right about Bly and Bates. They'll have to really earn anything more than the occasional 4th-line appearance given the veteran grinder-types MC has coming back.
Demers does have a chance to be really good on this team, but he had a fair share of struggles last season with inconsistency. When he's on, it's scary: he has one of the hardest shots on the team.

Heywood is a different kind of player, he's more of a pass-first, shutdown defender. He has great intangibles, but he will need to show it early to get ice time over Demers. The early out of conference games (Niagara and UCONN) will probably dictate who gets a longer look, but either way I think the team would benefit.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Those of us who follow BC would not think Sammuelson has a shot at All Hockey East this year simply because there are others who are ahead of him. But that does not mean he is not an important and very valuable member of the Defense for he is and a very good one at that. If he sticks around for 4 years as we hope he would have a shot at it by his senior year though. Look at someone like Peter Harrold who turned out to be one sensational Defenseman. He finally made it as an All Hockey East selection in his senior year. He was an excellent player but had to wait his turn. Even according to top 20 Sammuelson would be in the top 1/3 in the league. I would never knock anyone in that position. That is an honor in itself.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Silly argument. I'm sure there was plenty of moving around, but fwiw, here's a pic of Kosto and Samulelsson on the ice together...

If he indeed was the #5 d-man, credit to him for finishing 3rd in points amongst d-men.

agreed but you said it. These were the top 2, period

Everyone chipped in on PK etc

Moore/Lind
Nicastro/Kostolansky

3rd in points with 0 goals in 54 games

There were times last year, especially at the beginning of the year, where Samuelsson made some awful decisions with the puck. Even in the Beanpot final vs. BU he had two giveaway's that led directly to BU goals when he had the chance to clear the zone. Yet, when there was less than a minute to play in the game and BC needed a stop, he was out there. I guess Coach York trusted his defensive abilities enough.

So be it. Does a d-man HAVE to score goals in order to contribute and be a good player? He scored one goal in 42 games for BC, yet was very good at finding people with shot-passes from the point and was able to chip in 13 assists. That's a pretty good offensive contribution for a freshman.

Can't argue with any of that. Almost certain he was with Dumoulin at the end of that game--and on the ice. That spoke volumes to me. A guy who's forgotten more hockey than I'll ever know trusted him enough in that situation.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

too funny

I particulary like this "A person familiar with the NCAA investigation told ESPN.com that Green did not sell his jersey on eBay and received less than $1,000 for it, and the guy that bought didn't use the buyer name 'hokydad'."

Shouldn't you be over on the "OFFICIAL" UVM thread talking to yourself. "OFFICIAL"!!

What a tool

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

I would be more worried about Dirty than Hokydad. After all, how else would one get an AIC jersey... :D

i got a RMC jersey this summer. team is getting new ones. they sold the old ones to help ofset costs. mookie emailed the coach.

we are more than happy to support college hockey teams. ;)
