Hockey East 2010-2011

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

I've seen two stories that said that Smith was a "Winston-Salem, NC native". I think someone took the ESPN story and ran with that.

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/news/story?id=5109129

For the record, he's from Avon, CT: ;)

The AP story listed him as being from Winston-Salem, and I'm assuming most sites that post AP stories (like ESPN) would never bother to check that. I posted it on NESN.com and caught the mistake, but I actually follow college hockey. I would assume whoever posted it for ESPN does not. I have no idea where the AP got that from.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Looking at the defense that will be in front of him, he very well could have a rough year (Brett Bennett rough, that kid got hung out to dry a ton in his season at BU).

Not that Shattenkirk or Cohen were great in their own end (Shattenkirk was ok for some stretches), but they also graduated Gryba who was obviously a defensive defenseman. Considering the offense the first two contributed, BU may have some trouble putting pucks in the net next season with Bonino leaving too.

They'll certainly need contributions from freshmen. And they also are going to need their sophomores to step up. That brings Chiasson and Nicastro to the forefront. Nicastro has good skills but never seemed to put it all together in the games I saw him - not that he was terrible. Chiasson tailed off with just 3 goals in his last 28 games if I'm looking at things correctly. Both are going to have to establish themselves as big performers next year IMO.

Carmine, you make some great points. Not only do I think BU will be hurting at the blueline, because of losing Gryba, Shattenkirk and Cohen, but also on offense. Shattenkirk, Cohen and Bonino contributed soooo much to their offense. It seemed a lot of it was initiated through them.

I can see the same thing next year happening to BU as to what happened this year: they dig themselves too big of a hole in the first half of the season to make the NCAA tournament (unless, of course, they win the Hockey East tourney). And, according to the computers, a loss in November is the same as a loss in February. So they might be playing well down the stretch, but it will take them time to find an identity.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Regular season doesn't even matter. Boston College will win the Hockey East tourney regardless of where they finish. I think Maine will be good, but team like UMass, UMass-Lowell and Providence have the potential to be horrible.

BU and UNH are interesting because they lost quite a bit, but should feed off the UMass' of the world and get home ice. Vermont is probably in the middle somewhere.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

1.) BC
2.) UNH
3.) Maine
4.) UVM
5.) BU
6.) Mack
7.) Northeastern
8.) Lowell
9.) Providence
10.) Umass

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

BC should theoretically make the Hockey East tournament. I'm not sold that they are the automatic #1 seed and HE Tourney winner, historically speaking they wont make the NCAA's this season.

Thank You

The 01 and 08 title teams lost a ton to graduation and early departures (especially 2001). It looks like the 2010 team will be intact next year so they should be a beast. I'll go with these predictions:

1.) Boston College
gap
2.) Maine
gap
3.) UVM
4.) UNH
5.) BU
6.) Merrimack
7.) NU
8.) UMass
9.) UMass-Lowell
10) PC

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Historically speaking, UNH is an abortion year in and year out.

Thank You

HA! Seriously, how many chromosomes does someone need to be missing to type something that stupid? All in all, BC fans should be thankful, the hillbillies, fanboys, and hippies give us something to laugh about 365 days a year (the 1 leap day every 4 years is about as frequent as an exception as this is). It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Geez Nick, now you are bashing a BC fan? Go apologize before you make Slasher cry

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

And the answer is : This BC hockey fan is largely considered the most worthless poster on the USCHO fan forum, he also maybe a mass murder with a lucky streak?
are you sure there is only one name that fits for the question to this answer? :p

you and I both know that BU will make some post-beanpot surge to climb all the way to 2nd or 3rd in the Hockey East standings :D ... and luckily sneak into the NCAA field of 16 ;)

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

I'm pleased to see Maine climbing the ladder again. For a spell there I thought the Black Bears would turn into our version of Lake Superior.
