Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

- I'm not necessarily drinking the Maine Kool Aid. On one hand they got into the HE final and went toe to toe with BC. On the other hand, they were almost knocked out on their home ice in the QFs.

I'm not, either.

I think they'll be better, sure. I see getting back into the NCAA tournament as a legitimate expectation. But that's basically saying a repeat of this year, with a couple fewer bad OOC losses.

Besides - in the last 10-15 years, how often has Maine won a regular season title? Even when they had legitimately good teams, it was pretty rare to see Maine leading the RS chase. And even rarer that they finished there.

This thing is BC's to lose, plain and simple. I think teams 2-4 will be closer to each other than to #1. Maine could have a good season and end up anywhere in there. 5th or lower, and it's safe to say Maine disappointed. They lose too little and return too much to be *completely* mediocre.

You guys might not be drinking the Maine kool-aid but I'm chugging it!

Whats foolish about that? Lowell finished fifth and lost just about everyone. PC doesn't have much, but they do have most of their team returning.

I'm going to start taking the tact (for now) that talent doesn't improve by leaps and bounds over time. This would mean that while Lowell lost a lot they might not bottom out because of the new recruits stepping in... but that also means that Lowell's ceiling in future years is lower because talent doesn't improve that much over time... either that or I'm really going to have to call it all on coaching.

the only matter in getting better or worse will be in assessing recruits correctly... some may progress but i don't think there's a ton of progression in many of these players.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

don't sleep on bu next year i think theyll surprise some people (they have some good recruits coming in and i doubt millan will suck balls again next year after a great freshman year) and i fully expect them to get home ice.... and give bc 4 tough games (at least) next year.

.... im still not sold on merrimack as a top 4 team but i am hopeful they can improve upon last year.

i do see the league as bc's to lose but they'll get everyone's best game all year so we'll see how they handle the championship hangover this time around cuz the 09 season was a disaster.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Consensus is BC and Maine in the top 2 and NCAA tournament teams. Do you think #3-5 UNH, BU, etc. will be strong enough to make the NCAA's, or be on the bubble? Seems like some offensive players need to emerge for teams outside of BC and Maine.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

Just noticed BC lost Smith to - who, North Carolina? How might that affect the team?

UNH lost a handful of good, decent players. They also kept a handful. This season could be similar to last (obviously hoping for a better outcome...), with a rebuilding period, then a settling of lines and pairings, and a strong (ish) finish. Interested to see if:
1) Moses finds hands in the off-season to complement his speed.
2) Desimone shapes up his passing and reception.
3) the D can actually play 60 minutes in one game.
4) Digirolamo can fill those mighty big shoes.
Kinda harsh, but I'm a disappointed fan...

I liked the strength of character Butler and LeBlanc exhibited as captains. The team's good rapport was obvious (to this fan). If Sislo and Campanale can continue that rapport, on-ice evidence will grow. UNH may be on the bubble for a bit of the season, and it may come down to the last weekend again, but I think we'll be in again. As for the rest... well, I guess we'll see.

Re: Hockey East 2010-2011

BC should theoretically make the Hockey East tournament. I'm not sold that they are the automatic #1 seed and HE Tourney winner, historically speaking they wont make the NCAA's this season.

Thank You

Looking at the defense that will be in front of him, he very well could have a rough year (Brett Bennett rough, that kid got hung out to dry a ton in his season at BU).

Not that Shattenkirk or Cohen were great in their own end (Shattenkirk was ok for some stretches), but they also graduated Gryba who was obviously a defensive defenseman. Considering the offense the first two contributed, BU may have some trouble putting pucks in the net next season with Bonino leaving too.

They'll certainly need contributions from freshmen. And they also are going to need their sophomores to step up. That brings Chiasson and Nicastro to the forefront. Nicastro has good skills but never seemed to put it all together in the games I saw him - not that he was terrible. Chiasson tailed off with just 3 goals in his last 28 games if I'm looking at things correctly. Both are going to have to establish themselves as big performers next year IMO.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

Historically speaking, you're a twit.

Since York go the program running, he hasn't missed the HE tourney. With the talent returning, they are absolutely a lock unless half the team leaves in August and the rest get hurt. They don't finish first often so I wouldn't give them the #1 seed automatically, but you've been drinking some serious moonshine if you think they are not a lock for both the HE tourney and NCAA tourney.

Is that you, Dave Hendrickson? :p :D
