Hockey Day Minnesota - Denver @ Minnesota 2/12/11

Re: Hockey Day Minnesota - Denver @ Minnesota 2/12/11

Guess I picked a fine time to get a headache bad enough to have to take a nap and miss most of the first. :(

But glad to see the score! :D

More matching penalties with 55 seconds left in 1st, 4 on 4 again

Re: Hockey Day Minnesota - Denver @ Minnesota 2/12/11

Minny 3 DU 0 end 1st, time for the boys to re-group

3-0 after one. Terrific first period by the Gophers. How is this team fighting for home ice in the playoffs?

Re: Hockey Day Minnesota - Denver @ Minnesota 2/12/11

Did you see last night's game? That's how. :(

I did. My question was in the nature of rhetorical, trying to give them props for a great 20 minutes. 'Course these games run longer than 20 minutes, don't they?

Apologies (still a little groggy). Gophers, even when playing well, can't seem to finish. Either that, or they just play like they're going through the motions. And the games do indeed run longer than 20 minutes, but even as bad as this defense is, if MN blows this game........

I better hide all the sharp objects now. ;)

I was thinking a DU tie would be about the best we could hope for. That's a very long shot. This is a big game for the Gophers (Hockey Day and all) and I expected them to come out en fuego, just not quite this en fuego.

That is one of the problems, yes. The Gophers have been terribly inconsistent, and add a little bad luck (camera angles don't see the right things on replay, for example), and you have a mediocre season. The luck is a minor aspect, the biggest problem is inconsistent play. Take 3 of 4 points from Duluth, then go and do nothing against Mankato? Ick.

IF they they manage to get some consistent effort over the next several weeks, watch out come the playoffs, they've demonstrated over and over that they can hang in there with anyone.
