Hockey Day Minnesota - Denver @ Minnesota 2/12/11

Re: Hockey Day Minnesota - Denver @ Minnesota 2/12/11

The only good thing about this game is I won't have to pay to go to MSP ithe second weekend in April....DU ain't gonna be there. The emperor has no clothes.

Well, the sine qua non for these clowns used to be Rainbow Head, 'course he's in the slam for rape these days.

That guy was indeed a piece of work. Now, if you're a fan that happens to constantly be on camera because of your intense fandom (think: NYJ Fire Helmet Guy), that's ok. I don't think he tried to be a camera whore, but the media loved his bit so much, they constantly show him.

One thing Minny, DU and UND have going for themselves is that most of their games are televised and can be seen around the country. They don't have to wait to be the featured game of the week on CBSCS, ESPNU, B10 or NHL Network.

Come out anyway. I went to Denver in '08 when my team didn't have a chance to get there, and it was a blast.

Indeed. nmupiccdiva recently moved to Duluth (from Houghton/Marquette), and she was amazed at the hockey coverage in MN overall, not just MN/UND.

As I'm sure you're aware most (all?) of these NFL guys are paid by the team and aren't "fans" at all. I'm not sure about the dude who used to wear the barrel at Broncos games or the guy in the chaps at Cowboys games. But we had a crazy looking guy with a snare drum in Houston, and he was paid. He should have used the money for some lithium.

"Rainbow Head" was offensive because he obviously wasn't a fan. He had his own agenda, which I didn't give a crap about, at least not during the game.

I didn't know NYJFHG was paid. I know Ragnar (the Vikings mascot guy) eventually was hired because of his bit. Apparently he did that bit for quite a while before MN smartened up and made him an employee.

The barrel guy in Denver was there forever. I believe he just died in the past year. Fireman Ed for the Jets was a regualr season ticket holder at the old stadium and the team has glommed onto him. I know he was resisting paying the PSL for his seats in the new stadium. Wouldn't surprise me if they cut a deal with him this past season.

DU Goal, anticlimactic Minny leads 6-1, Bennett from Zucker

I don't know about NYJ's guy. But I think what's happend is what you've described, these guys have become part of the "game day experience," and the teams have hired them as a way of keeping them under control and maximizing their impact. Wouldn't phase me a bit to lose them all, but that's just me. Same thing with "models" posing as cheerleaders.

I hope things don't get chippy. I hate it when that happens.

Re: Hockey Day Minnesota - Denver @ Minnesota 2/12/11

There seems to be a delay with some of us posting tonight.

I am watching Direct TV.

Any reason?

Re: Hockey Day Minnesota - Denver @ Minnesota 2/12/11

Denver and Gophers replay tomorrow night at 2:30 am on FS North and that be Monday in the real early morning hours.

Thank you.

Well, the sine qua non for these clowns used to be Rainbow Head, 'course he's in the slam serving three CONSECUTIVE life terms for kidnapping.

Is that the guy that was referred to as, "Touchdown Jesus"? I believe he wore a rainbow wig and tie-dye that said, "John 3:14". And I don't mean that as a slam against Christians, but I seem to remember that fan.
