Hobey Hat Trick

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

Andy Miele is an 18.6% shooter (not too far behind Frattin), has 24 goals (not a small number by any means), leads the nation in assists (which have a 1:1 ratio with a goal being scored), was second on Miami with +22 (Reilly Smith had +27) and also plays on the penalty kill unit. And don't even say that Frattin's defensive capabilities "set him apart from the other candidates". I wouldn't be surprised if you hadn't even watched Miami at all this year, given that Miami DOES have plenty of skilled two way forwards, Andy Miele being one of them.

Sounds like a coin flip to me, both (well, all three) are great candidates.

Not a coin flip. I agree that both are skilled, but Frattin is noticably bigger, stronger, and is a much more physically dominating player.

Frattin has great lower body strength. His legs are like tree trunks. And he skates exceptionally fast for his size.

he plays some defense too...

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

You cannot prove that Matt Frattin is even the hardest working player on the team. What about when Genoway bag-skated himself after a tough game? I never heard that Frattin did that. Wouldn't that imply Genoway is working harder? What about a guy like Genoway or Gregoire who is coming back from injury? Doesn't an injured player have to work much harder to get back in shape and rehab his injury than a guy who isn't injured? What about a guy like Gregoire who is majoring in finance or investments or whatever? Doesn't he have to work harder than a guy in Tourism studies?

BOX.

Sioux Coaches and Players have said in the past that Frattin was in the best physical shape among Sioux hockey players. He raised the bar for the rest of the team. So now they all have to work hard just to keep up with Frattin on the ice.:D

So then he's the least hard-working player on the team!

Some more stats:

Of Miele's 47 assists, 17 of them are Jeff Panzers (2nd assists.) That's 36% of his assists!!!!!

As for Frattin, only 3 of 24 are 2nd assists. That's a nice 12.5%.

Both players were on their top lines, so they had some good players around them. However, Miele's line put up 182 points on the year. Frattin's line put up 141 points. It seems Miele had more help around him, compared to Frattin's line.

Ok, assists are assists. First or second doesn't matter.

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

Any of the other candidates ever go out into a -33 degree blizzard to save a teammate from frostbite. Hear he carried Kristo on his sholders to the Hospital. Proof right there that Frattin is a man beast.:D

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

Neither am I. The jealousy of the awesomeness of UND in general and MMFF specifically is evident everywhere on this board.

I am only jealous of the feeling that UND fans have right now. I miss it.

I think Miele is more deserving, but I guess I don't feel nearly as strongly as many of the others here.

And his rippled washboard abs, and glistening godlike forearms, and the way his eyes catch the sunlight just so, and ... *splat*.. oops, sorry, think ya let a little out there

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

Is there a swimsuit competition? Because who cares what his "tree trunk" legs look like?

Also not a Hobey criterion? How hard a player hits.

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

Let's see, we have 'drunken lawnmower toss' in one corner and 'beating up teenagers on bikes' in another corner, unless Miele likes to harass old people and kill puppies in his down time I would think the Hobey is his.

Re: Hobey Hat Trick

I’m just beginning to read all of this and I’d have to say I’ve noticed one thing for sure…HighlanderRPI definitely is bitter and jealous!
