HOBART STATESMEN HOCKEY 2023-2023- REIGNING Dlll DIVISION CHAMPIONS

Statesmen sweep Elmira this weekend 7-2 and 5-0. Hobart was in total command of both games . They are in official Pre-Playoff form on both offense and defense. The Cooler was totally packed tonight with a good turnout by the Soaring Eagles faithful. No letdown by Hobart in the second game as Mavrik gets the shutout and pads his season stats, this time against the #3 team in the country. The repeat dream continues. GOBART!

And we thought last year's performance was impressive.

It does make sense -- Hobart was a very young team last year and they won it all. Maturity and experience should dictate they would improve. But their performance right now, peaking down the stretch, should have the rest of the D3 world very worried.

Hobarts defense was head and shoulders better that ECs. Aside from a junk goal and a pretty cross ice pass on the power play Hobarts defenders snuffed out everything ECs forwards tried they stopped.

Congrats to the Hobart Statesmen for clinching the NEHC regular season title. This is the first team goal achieved this season and necessary to keep the playoff games at the Cooler to reach the next goal....winning the NEHC tournament . Given the quality of the NEHC this season, this was no small achievement on the way to the ultimate goal in Hartford . GOBART!

Closing out the regular season at the Cooler this weekend against Castleton and Skidmore. The Skidmore Thoroughbreds will be particularly upset minded as they seek some pairwise ranking lift for a potential NCAA berth. Extend the Cooler streak!

in a lot of cases when a team wins the national championship --the next year there is a slip in intensity and effort on a nightly basis. After watching Hobart recently in northfield I can report absolutely no slip in any area--they deserve the number one ranking

They had a little bit of a "hangover" early in the season. But certainly not now.

The first loss of the season against Oswego was a legit effort by Oswego as Beaver wasn't as focused as he was last season and their offense was very active. That game was like a bucket of cold water on Beaver, he has not let down the rest of the season and neither have the boys in front of him. The loss against Babson is what scares me, outshoot the opposition at a 3-1 ratio and backup goalie Maverick gives up three illustrating bad nights can happen. The OT tie with Norwich really shows how important it is to secure home ice in the playoffs, because Hobart would like to avoid being tested again in Vermont. They have confidence in Hartford since they beat Trinity 2-1 earlier in the season on the 2024 "Championship" ice, so Hobart just needs to avoid an Oswego or Babson type loss, play their game and return to Hartford. They look great, but lots of hockey to go.

considering beaver was playing rock paper scissors with oz student section can confirm he was definitely not focused on the game.

goalies are strange...some get into that stuff regularly as part of their normal game mindsets.

I wouldn't say because he was doing that he wasn't focused on the game necessarily.

well considering he hadnt done it all game until hobart had a lead and 2 min later after he did it oz scored the gtg with 90 seconds left its certainly weird timing/coincidence i know theres no way we can prove one way or another so ive decided to just have some fun with it and say it anway

Remember that Denver goalie who played to the visiting crowd all the time? Can't remember his name, but he certainly was entertaing. Came within one game of making it to the Frozen Four.

So Hobart does what it had to do tonight with a 6-3 win over Castleton State, but it looks like Skidmore is hot and moving into national consideration after beating Elmira 3-1 , while Norwich loses to Babson. The Thoroughbreds will be bringing their horseshoe skates tomorrow with lots of incentive to end Hobart's Cooler win streak.Hobart will have to focus much more tomorrow than they did tonight to keep the steak alive and continue it all the way to Hartford.

Hobart closes out the regular season by beating a very good Skidmore team 5-1, giving Coach Taylor his 400th win. Beaver gets the win and the Thoroughbreds have been cooled down. The NEHC Playoffs are next and the home streak must continue to deliver us to Hartford . Congrats to the whole team, everyone has contributed , as the journey to the REPEAT continues.

And now in 2024 the Cooler will host as many games as the Statesmen can win before their hopeful path to Hartford , but the Cooler spirit is unhappy with those that have mocked it over the years and wishes to speak before the playoff games begin.

THE COOLER SPEAKS:

"Welcome to my building, welcome to my ice

For those who have mocked me , you shall pay a price

All your speed and skill will not save you today

For you will simply be my mighty Statesmen's prey"

UP NEXT: Castleton

Statesmen win the first NEHC playoff game 8-1 over Castleton. Castleton was tough in the first period as both teams could not score. But Hobart found the back of the net five times in the second period and 3 in the third, as Castleton sent a screamer past Beaver for their only score. Congratulations to Hobart's next opponent, Southern Maine who pulled off a huge upset over Norwich 3-1at the mighty Kreitzberg Arena . Can Southern Maine pull off two major upsets back to back?.....The Cooler awaits. GOBART!
The William Smith Herons also advance in the NEHC tournament ! Fly Herons Fly.....

Just asking for a friend :

Tate Brandon(Skidmore) was selected as first string goalie for the All-NEHC team, and Beaver was second team...curious based on following stats:

Brandon. 18-4, 1.69 GAA, .938 SV %, 4 shutouts

Beaver. 13-1-1, 0.99 GAA, .961 SV%, 5 shutouts

Also in the last head-head Hobart got 5 past Tate and Skidmore got 1 past Beaver for a Hobart 5-1 win.Since Hobart has another great Sophomore goalie in Maverick Goyer ,that Coach Taylor has given important playing time(7-1 and even lower 0.91 GAA), I hope Beaver( who starts against the toughest competition, because Taylor has the luxury to save Beaver for these games) doesn't get downgraded due to the fewer # of games played. I know Tate is an excellent goaltender, but being picked over Beaver????
EDIT: USCHO Final :Beaver shuts out Skidmore 0-5.

You must be believing history with 10-0 and 9-1 wins by Hobart over SM, but I heard SM got some injured players back for the Norwich game, I actually did not research the fact but, not taking anything for granted. Hopefully the Cooler Freeze(AKA Hobart Defense) will do it's job.

Southern Maine plays like a playoff team and gives Hobart a test, but Hobart wins 4-1 , including an empty net goal at the end. Beaver gives up a goal close in in the third period . Hobart moves on to play Skidmore next week who beat a strong Elmira team 4-1. The Cooler awaits the Thoroughbreds next Saturday to settle the NEHC Championship and determine the final seedings in the NCAA tournament for these 2 teams.
