Harvard Crimson Women 2012-2013

Yes, there will be video on Saturday

Yes, there will be video on Saturday

As dave1381 reports, the links on the Cornell website are now linked to espn3:

"For ECACs, there are links to video for both semifinals off of the Cornell site.

Re: Harvard Crimson Women 2012-2013

It looks like the ECAC semi-finals and final will also be carried on ESPN 3. http://static.psbin.com/h/0/efrzosleb1vas6/Tournament_TV_Annoucement_Women.pdf

And if you have an iPad or iPhone, download WatchESPN from the App store and you can watch it on either device if you aren't going to be near a TV (which I am not as I'm planning to head out to see the HE semis). Assuming of course you have a WiFi connection that's strong enough and free enough for you to join.

Does that work north of the border or will be get the annoying..."Not available in your region" message.

No, sorry. You also usually need either a U.S. cable subscription login or maybe a U.S. university IP address. Since I'm not living in the U.S., I still get it via VPN and a family cable login.

Re: Harvard Crimson Women 2012-2013

Sigh!

Big sigh!!!!

Big Red - Thanks for the link to Cornell, I hope that works. I cannot make the trip. I looked at the ESPN website and it appears that I do not own a device capable of getting ESPN3.

Once again it appears that WHRB, the Harvard student radio station has decided that it is more important to broadcast an opera from the Metropolitan Opera in New York rather than Harvard hockey which involves a Harvard event and Harvard students.

If the Cornell link does not work I will be reduced, once again, to following a game on live stats, not a really satisfactory substitute.

Sigh!!

Edited to add: Big Red (or anyone) Is there a Cornell radio station that will be broadcasting that I could listen to online??

They weren't going to Ithaca anyway, Met or no Met. Sorry. They have both home basketball and the road hockey game. I know how many broadcasters they have. That puts them close to the limit, especially among people who know hockey. (And as I've also said before, until Harvard contributes money so that WHRB can afford to broadcast Harvard events with Harvard students, then yes, the Met will be more important as it provides the majority of WHRB's annual budget.)

Not sure if it's a systems requirement problem but you can watch ESPN3 on a PC/Mac without a cable/satellite subscription (dependent on your internet service). It's only games on Watch ESPN that require cable because those are games that are on the broadcasted channels - ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, etc.

Re: Harvard Crimson Women 2012-2013

Underway at Lynah. Cornell won 4-2 earlier today.

Crimson in their alternate blacks. They are 1-1-1 per GoCrimson in those uniforms. Maschmeyer is in net.

And a goal for Harvard currently under review. Faceoff after an icing. Mary Parker banks it off a Clarkson helmet and past Howe's glove. Goal stands. 2:06 into first, Harvard 1-0.

End of 1st: Crimson 1 - Clarkson 0. Maschmeyer comes up big with 3 or 4 huge PK saves. Clarkson will have a carryover PP to start the second for about 1:28. Crimson started off strong but Clarkson's first PP gave them life and game became much more even. (Interestingly, Clarkson outshot Harvard heavily, 11-6.)

In the 2nd period, Harvard converts on a short PP opportunity, its second PP of the night. Dempsey redirects a shot from the point from Edney in front to make it a 2-0 lead just under the 5 min mark.

End of 2nd: Crimson 2 - Clarkson 0. Thought Clarkson played a better 2nd period than 1st but Crimson got the only goal. According to broadcast though, Harvard outshot Clarkson 10-4. Partly that Clarkson switched to a trap so they were keeping Harvard pinned in their zone but not generating shots I guess. Harvard is doing a good job of beating Clarkson to open pucks though.

In the 3rd, Mary Parker centers one in front that finds Miye D'oench and she buries the one timer to give the Crimson an early 3-0 lead in the 3rd. Just over 5 minutes gone in the 3rd. ESPN3 losing audio on its announcers.

With 7 minutes left, Clarkson gets on the board. A bouncing shot from Ambrose, possibly tipped by Rattray, makes it 3-1. Stands up after review.

3:42 left as Clarkson takes a timeout. Crowe off for body checking. Clarkson PP and they trail 3-1. Erica Howe out of the net. 6 on 4.

Maschmeyer with a big save with 1:05 on the PP. Crimson clear on the faceoff. Neutral zone turnover goes to Mary Parker and SHE WILL SCORE! ENG for the Crimson. 58 seconds of ensuing PP time for the Golden Knights as Harvard leads 4-1. PS - Harvard men's hoops going for 3rd Ivy title on NBCSN right now. 25-23 against Cornell with 3 minutes left in 1st half.

Clarkson scores a consolation goal. Ganyon (Sp?) scores to make it 4-2. But the buzzer has sounded and Harvard will take on Cornell tomorrow for the ECACHL championship. GO CRIMSON!

Re: Harvard Crimson Women 2012-2013

So long ECAC semifinal loss streak 2009-2012.

So to recap Harvard in the ECAC postseason from 1999-2013, the last 15 seasons
ECAC Quarterfinals: 27-1
ECAC Semifinals: 8-7
ECAC Finals: 5-2 with 1 to play

Quite a pattern of postseason struggles :p

Another fun stat: the winner of the 2-3 (reseeded) ECAC semifinal has now been won by the team that got swept in the regular season each of the last three seasons, and 4 of the last 5 seasons. I think the "it's tough to beat a team three times" adage does apply when the teams are as close as the 2-3 teams have been these last few seasons.

Re: Harvard Crimson Women 2012-2013

GREAT, GREAT WIN for the Crimson. Wow, how to gut it out and grind. Redemption to be sure and this pretty much ensures that we will be going to the NCAA tournament. Hopefully against a local team so that we can see the Crimson one more time live.

Mary Parker has been showing up lately and she and Miye D'Oench really came through today. I'll admit that I've been critical of the depth but today, it showed up. Big time.

Here's hoping we can take the championship. Will be difficult but hey, anything's possible.

GO CRIMSON!

Re: Harvard Crimson Women 2012-2013

Congrats to the Harvard women on todays game. It is always tough to beat a GOOD team 3X in one season and that adage proves to be true once more. Good luck against Cornell.

Re: Harvard Crimson Women 2012-2013

Also wanted to add, I was mostly pleased with the ESPN3 product. Lots of player intermission interviews. Nice to hear from Kathy Delaney-Smith as well.

Not surprising and a great stat. Really it can apply to just about any sport. I think the difference today was the Crimson had more jump and got better looks at Howe than two weeks ago. Maschmeyer also came up huge in the first period with that ten bell save on the PP.

I see no way Harvard isn't playing in Boston next weekend in the game involving the 4 seed, visiting BU or BC (likely BC if BU wins Hockey East), or Harvard could host with an ECAC championship and a BU loss.

Thank them in the RPI thread. Game was produced by RPI TV, as was last year's men's semifinals weekend (and knowing the league, possibly this year's men's semifinals weekend.)

I had never seen them before. During the game was wondering when they changed to new road uni's.

Harvard was full value for the win, but if Clarkson would have scored on that great chance on the PP at the end of the first period, it could have been a different game.

I think this is the 1st year they haven't worn them extensively. Have had them since 2008 I believe but maybe they only used them at home? I know many of us during my undergrad days were wondering why they had a black alternate and not the men.

Harvard was full value for the win said:
"Could have"........should haves.......it was a great game....give the Harvard TEAM credit. Harvard just out skated them, and beat them at every facet of the game. Clarkson tried to chip and dump the puck in most every instant because they just could not keep up with Harvard speed and tenacity (if icing was a statistic Clarkson certainly would have won that category). Clarkson's successes were mainly when they were on the PP.

Good luck to Harvard today as this will be a great game.

PS Thankful for ESPN3
