Harvard Crimson - 2015-2016

Re: Harvard Crimson - 2015-2016

As Alex Baldwin said after crashing his vehicle with the beautiful and talented Julia Stiles in the front seat in the movie "State and Main", "Well, that happened". And so goes the Crimson's season. Futility on the road is killing this team. North Country trips are difficult but Harvard doesn't seem to have that chemistry or finish this year. It's either a lack of skill, finish or something else but this team is underachieving in a big way. They definitely miss Mary Parker but that shouldn't be the reason they can't be competitive.

Something needs to change and fast or this season will be over by the end of February. They can't just show up and expect to win.

Too much reliance on your goalie? My view is that if Harward scores 3, they should win or tie most games. She's that good.

The team has a lot of faith in Maschmeyer but reliance may be too strong a word. There should be enough talent to score more than three goals a game and yet for some reason they can't put it together this season. The lines have zero chemistry and no one is going to the net. The forecheck is non-existent. Add it up and you get less than stellar results. A lot less.

Re: Harvard Crimson - 2015-2016

Watching today's game was akin to watching snow fall. And at certain points, I wanted to check outside just to see if the forecast was correct. That should tell you all you need to know concerning the game. It was a snooze fest. Some up and down action here and there but a lot of ragged play, icings, offsides, and dump ins from the red line.

Best goal of the game was the first by Karly Heffernan as she took a pass from Dani K, burst up the middle of the ice, went around and through a Dartmouth defender and slipped a forehand by Chemango. Lexie Laing finished the scoring off a scramble in the crease early in the second period. Other than that, it was check the weather and hope that relatives are okay in DC and Maryland.

Stacy and Allen are Dartmouth's best players far and away. Both teams look like second division teams at the moment. Harvard can't put the puck in the ocean and I lost count of how many times Crimson players shot wide with no one bothering them. Miye D'Oench missed the net four times with clean looks. You can't score if you can't put the puck on goal. Maybe some shooting drills would help. The team is so out of synch and the lines have no chemistry whatsoever. Our D is okay but compared to last season, we have had a major drop off.

Even if we get home ice for the first round of the playoffs, I'm not convinced we'll win unless we have a major turnaround in our play. We miss Mary Parker as a center and face-off specialist - it is having a ripple effect throughout the lineup. I don't think she'll be back this season. Just a hunch and I hope I'm wrong.

Next weekend, the Crimson have to take four points if they want to solidify their chances for home ice in the first round. Two is not enough. They only have four home games left after today and given our road record, I don't see us finishing strong despite having RPI and Union on the schedule.

I gotta love that! Them is fightin' words my friend. To suggest that RPI is a gimme 2 points is the kind of motivation that I hope our team takes to heart :).

They probably will. We always have a target on our backs. But I doubt we will look past them based on our game against them in November. Fact is that after next weekend, the remainder of the schedule is against teams below Harvard in the standings and we should be able to take care of business despite our lack of success on the road. Of course I say that knowing that we are 3-5 in our last eight games so nothing is a sure thing at the moment.

There you go again with this 'Harvard as victim' stuff again. Look, they are a better than average team with a great coach and they will always be a force to contend with. But believe me, the refs and the other teams do not lie awake at night thinking about how to get Harvard.

You misunderstood. By target on their backs, I mean't that teams are gunning for Harvard because of our success over the years. Did I say anything about the refs??? And where did I say anything about Harvard being a victim?? Beating Harvard can sometimes make a season for a team, especially Union. Heck, beating anyone at this point would make their season.

Huh? There are a lot of teams who have had more success over the years and I don't see their fans whining about being targets. And, yes you did say a few things about the refs victimizing the poor Crimson, the most recent being your post of 01-19-2016. Beating Harvard would "make a season for a team"...in your dreams.

Losing to Harvard on Tuesday could ruin a season for BC. And it's very possible.

I would say it's possible, without the very. If the Crimson does manage to pull it off I'm going to pour myself a big bowl of Frosted Flakes to celebrate! ;)

Clarkson is going to take the ECAC. You guys don't have a prayer this year. Coach D has these kids playing some good hockey of late.

Oh for the love of God, give it a rest. Join the rest of humanity if that's possible.

I decided to edit my post and add that if the refs call a bad game, they deserve it. Poor performance deserves to be called out. And yeah, beating Harvard does mean a lot to some teams. Ask BC how they felt about last year and wanting to exact revenge this year. And if you think the Eagles aren't getting psyched to pound us next Tuesday, then you know nothing about hockey.

Maybe but I would be wary of Princeton. They gave Harvard all they could handle and if wasn't for Maschmeyer's heroics, the game might have turned out differently. The Tigers can skate, forecheck and pressure the puck like few teams I've seen this year. If they get the goaltending, I don't think Clarkson, Quinnipiac or any other team will be a slam dunk to win the ECAC tournament.

Re: Harvard Crimson - 2015-2016

Wow - BC 8-0!! If the win over a good Princeton team (maybe their best ever) gave you hope for a strong finish to the season, this game took it all away and then some. The team appeared listless, unmotivated, disorganized (especially defensively, but really everywhere), and disinterested. Give you the fact that they played two tough games over the weekend and BC had sat for a week and is a better team, but that butt-whooping is way deeper than that. Time to face it if you haven't already - this Harvard team just doesn't have the magic, no doubt about it.
