Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

There were 2 minors against each team, a well officiated game. There was nothing soft about the trip on Fitzgerald. That's a trip every time. He was about to beat his man down the wall.

Agreed. The 2nd call (Interference on Anderson) was marginal.

BC was the better team and deserved to win.

BTW, from what I read about Madsen from some of you guys, you'd think he was chopped liver. I don't view Harvard as having an elite d core, so when I look at his numbers...wow. They are off the charts. Not too shabby for a kid who didn't play last year. If he puts up numbers like that the rest of the way, no reason Harvard can't compete for the FF.

You're probably the first person to ever use that phrase when it comes to Hicks.

Death, taxes, and us disappointing in the Beanpot.

What stud is coming in for Northeastern next year? Eichel and White in back to back years.

white is great but come on! you gonna put them in the same sentence? Eichel was a generational talent, we'll see another one like him in another 20 years maybe

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

I'd be very pleased to have both teams in Tampa two moths from now.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Not that bad skate79. That was a great game and hard fought by both teams for 60:00. H will be fine.
And just think. . . you'll get another shot at BU next Monday. :D

We can't wait. Seriously, I just think that we had a chance to make a statement and fell flat on our faces. Except for the ten minutes after Donato's goal, we didn't challenge BC at all. We lost a lot of puck battles and as Teddy said after the game, our puck possession was non-existent. You can't win if you don't challenge the other team's goalie and Demko was hardly tested.

Madsen played well but I'm not convinced that he can steal a game for us. Not yet anyway. And yes, for someone who didn't play last year, he is showing he belongs. Whether he can take that next step remains to be seen.

Guys - I think we can't let recent results cloud the bigger picture here.

Harvard went into the Notre Dame tournament and smacked around both RPI and Notre Dame on their home ice (both Top 15 teams).

Harvard then went to Minny and smacked around Ferris St before playing a sensational game and ultimately winning against a resurgent Minny team on their home ice.

I believe that Harvard has played the 3rd toughest schedule in the country to date.

Harvard is too good a team to take solace in losses, but the game against Quinny @MSG also showcased a fight coming back from 4-0 where they could have just mailed it in.

The team has had some real stinkers. The game @Quinny and the 3rd period vs BU come to mind - but such is the nature of sports. And while I would not call the Beanpot game against BC a stinker, Harvard was not as sharp as we have seen them, but let's also give some credit to BC. Harvard is not going to look as good against BC as they will against Ferris St.

I don't know what this team will be in March and they have some challenges (especially on D), but they absolutely have the talent to compete with anyone. With some good health, good and intelligent play, and some luck (needed for any deep run in the tourney), I believe that this team can have success.

I think the biggest problem though has been that our stinkers have been on the biggest stages, and against the best teams. It doesn't lend confidence to the Frozen Four or bust season we've been designed for (considering how much we lose over the next two years).

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

I could not get to the Brown game. I had tickets for the women's game, started North for Boston and turned around in Hingham as the roads were getting icy. I ended up listening the the men on WHRB while watching the women's live stats page.

At least the men won. The women played to a draw in overtime. It did sound like a couple of the Brown goals were rather soft. It is unclear why that Veseu goal was disallowed but since the refs called a linesman into the replay booth I guess that there was a player offside and the goal went in before the linesman could whistle it dead. If anyone was there and could explain I would love to hear it.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Madsen gave up 2 of the softest goals u will ever see. Joke that the game was as close as the score indicates.

Harvard was up 2-0 and dominating. Vesey scores a heck of a goal but upon review, the refs overturn it. Minutes later, Brown scores on an off angle shot and the momentum completely changed.

Let's hope Madsen gets some work in tonight because he looked very uncomfortable last night. Yale is certainly going to test him more than Brown.

I was thinking the same thing last night watching the Penn State-Minnesota game while listening to the boys battle Brown on 'HRB. To go into Minnesota and beat them in a tournament final means something. I believe that our schedule will help us prepare for the tournament. After this weekend our next four are at home and if we take care of business, we should have home ice wrapped up and hopefully a good Pairwise ranking. The North Country trip will be tough but we should take at least two points from that trip.

Any updates on Newell and Olsen? Hope they get back soon enough although getting ice time for Baughman and Dumbrovsky might actually be a good thing.

Both, this is why I'm not totally sold on him being a #1. He has the tendency to give up softies. He needs to work on controlling the puck and crease awareness so as not to leave tantalizing rebounds. He is definitely talented and getting better but we're headed into crunch time and we need him to step up.

I'd hardly describe it as "dominating." We outshot Harvard 15-11 in that second period and took more shot attempts (62-55) over the course of the game. It was a pretty even game, with the ice perhaps tilted slightly in favor of Brown, after the first period.

For once, it was nice that our goalie didn't make the most errors! ;)

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Harvard's D is horrendous which completely neutralizes harvard's speed and ability to transition with speed.

Where has Donato been since Quinny game

Madsen is real shaky right now

Jaw needs to sit. He has not been right since coming back from injury

ATTENTION: MIA, one hockey team. Goes by the name Harvard Crimson. If found please return to the Bright Landry Hockey Center before next weekend.

Agreed!

3 games in 4 nights does not help, especially when you are playing in front of an empty stadium on a Monday afternoon.

Gut check time for Harvard.
