Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Scholarship, aid, who cares in fairness
The Ivy schools pretty much match it. Would rather have very aggressive "aid" vs a 1 or 2 for 4, which 95%+ get, if lucky

They do not match it. That is often the thought by parents who think their players will get aid (even if they don't qualify). You see decommits when the parents find out they will really be paying the full tuition.

Pretty short sighted by the parents!!!!!

I agree. Team is .500 (8-8-1) since Jan 1. I know they have it in them, just need to start clicking.

Completely agree. Unfortunately the result I expected last night, but we played them a lot better. We outplayed them at times and outshot them overall, unlike last game when they completely killed us in all phases of the game from the drop of the puck. Should've come away with at least a tie. I actually like our chances tonight, not too much pressure now (but it would be nice to avoid QPac until the Finals).

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Fabulous post. And he nailed it about what it's like to be involved with a team balancing school, social life, hockey, internships, etc... . It is an ultra stressful process, one that will shape him for the rest of his life. Pro hockey can't do that for him. He'll be so prepared for life in the NHL once he graduates. And I really wish he had told that moron to go pound sand. Maybe he'll run into him next season while playing for the Preds.

Good for Vesey. Making those kinds of decisions commands respect.

I want Harvard to play with some urgency tonight. Not pressing mind you, just some urgency to their game as they showed in the third period last night. If that carries over, then I feel very good about tonight. And I want another shot at Yale so yeah, I hope we finish third and see them in Lake Placid.

Completely agree. Need to build on that 3d period.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Harvsrd's 3rd period was best team played in months. Major aside, the team actually skated and the D brought the puck up the ice with purpose.

Lots of lazy penalties.

Harvard buries it'll the open net chances and they win game.

Brutal Kerfoot giveaway on 1st goal and Madden soft on 2nd.

I felt better after this loss then the tie vs Cornell or win vs Colgate.

Vesey is snakebitten

I thought Madsen played one of his best games of the year on the bright side. On the other hand, the Anderson penalty, the continual shots missing the net, and Vesey and Bergen passing the puck back and forth on the powerplay when a simple pass goes off Bergin's stick out of the zone..those are the many little mistakes that help this team lose a one goal game, and the difference between teams who win the close games and those who make a nice try.

Meanwhile, no Ivy League Digital tonight and WHRB continues to follow the basketball team through the meaningless finish to their season.

Clarkson, for free, puts their games online and have professional-caliber announcers to boot. I think this season is going to put the opera guy over the edge with WHRB's continual production problems that he has to try to fill while they are off-air. Embarrassing, although there must be a miniscule audience for these broadcasts.

Thanks for schools like St. Lawrence and Clarkson who show video on their websites.

Good luck in the QF. I thought SLU played well enough to win tonight (not that Harvard didn't), and played well enough to be better than 0-2 on the season. I hope they get one more shot at you guys.

Okay so we finish on a high note and grab third place and get a bye next weekend. Hopefully Malone and Newell return the following weekend. We need to be at full strength going forward.

Looks like if form holds, we'll play Dartmouth at Bright-Landry as Clarkson's win pushed them to fifth place and a possible quarters meeting with their travel partner SLU. The Green play Brown and should win that series in Hanover.

Thanks Tim. Looked like a wide open game tonight although I thought we had the better of the play during certain stretches. You guys may wind up playing your travel partner Clarkson as they will finish fifth and face Princeton next weekend. I can't see them losing that series. I think the only way we see you guys again is in the ECAC tournament final.

Exactly. :)

The Clarkson matchup scares me to death.

Well I jumped the gun in my post last night without taking a closer look at the standings. Turns out RPI will host Brown and Dartmouth will host Colgate. RPI should win that series although they have had trouble with Brown in the past so who knows. Colgate will give Dartmouth a run for their money but the Green should win out in three.

I don't like the idea of facing RPI and Kasdorf after that horrendous loss a few weeks ago but we should be able to handle them if we play aggressive and don't make mistakes in our end.

22. Another team that surprised with its inactivity was Nashville. But, another GM predicted the Predators would not do anything that blocked Jimmy Vesey’s road to an immediate roster spot, which GM David Poile confirmed to The Tennessean’s Adam Vingan. It’s also possible the team needed to move out Colin Wilson’s contract and couldn’t find a partner willing to do so.

This assumes that Vesey signs with Nashville which is not a sure thing. If Harvard has a strong playoff run and somehow makes it to the Frozen Four, Vesey's stock goes up assuming he has a role in their success (why wouldn't he?). Fluto Shinzawa of the Globe wrote recently that if Vesey doesn't sign with Nashville, Toronto will be there waiting for him with a very good offer.

I think considering what Jimmy said about Nashville in the Players' Tribune article, it's a pretty good bet he'll sign with Nashville.

RPI coming to Bright. I think the best match-up Harvard could have hoped for. Let's hope Kasdorf does not decide to stand on his head.

Not sure I agree. I think Dartmouth would have been a better matchup. Even though we should have crushed RPI last month at Bright, I still don't like seeing them because Kasdorf can stand on his head. Heck, the Green might not even make it to the quarters if they don't take care of business tonight.

That said, when Harvard gets a breather like they have for the past week, they generally come out firing on all cylinders so I definitely like our chances.

Let me put it this way. I would prefer RPI to Clarkson, Cornell, and Colgate/Dartmouth. We did hand it to Dartmouth, but that was 5 months ago. Very different team now.

Kasdorf is a difference maker, and if he makes 45-50 saves to win two 2-1 or 1-0 games, then so be it.

You'll get no argument from me on having RPI over Clarkson or Cornell. But I still think we handle Dartmouth or Colgate in two games despite the back and forth with Colgate at Bright. I just think the team's mindset will be different on Friday and they will put aside the nonsense of the last two months and come out with urgency and purpose. At least I hope so.

Would have liked to have seen Cornell travel to New Haven and inflict some pain on the Eli but no such luck. Yale gets a free pass to the semis.
