Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

Looks like Ted Hart (Exeter and Brian's younger brother) is headed to Yale. He was previously committed to Providence, but de-committed. I'm not sure if Ted will need to do a year of JRs, but if not, could have laced them up with Brian next season at Harvard and played together for a year.

Always interesting when brothers go to rival schools....

Well deserved. A kid scoring at his pace, carrying his team to the NCAAs and the ECAC title, with the academic workload of Harvard certainly deserves a lot of accolades. I said it before elsewhere but I really believe this kid has a shot at the Hobey Baker Award over Eichel.

and the winner is, Charles Woodson....

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

The case for Jimmy Vesey > Jack Eichel is not hard to make. Look at the numbers:

Vesey Eichel
Games 36 36
Goals 31 24
Assists 26 42
Points 57 66

G/gm 0.86 0.67
A/gm 0.72 1.17
Pts/gm 1.58 1.83
+/- 23 46

PP Goals 7 6
GWG 6 4
SH Goals 1 2
Shots 154 151

% of Team Pts 26% 17%
% of Team G 13% 17%
% of Team A 18% 17%
% of Team +/- 18% 20%

i would take vesey. never dogs it, never does the between the leg crap for show, plays hard every game
i also think eichel is a super talent and was really surprised with how good he was that young
vesey just does things right every shift.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

Looks like the Walter Brown folks keep getting it right.

It was always hard to put a lot of stock in the All-Americans and Hobey Baker Award. I even heard from a scout that he thought the All-INCH awards (RIP) were more representative of the players' level of production.

Anyway, great to see that little punk Eichel get a reality check today.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

Great article on Jimmy Vesey winning the Walter Brown Award in this morning's Boston Globe:

http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2...als-harvard/q9hTYfanpmMVCeiIUcFvyJ/story.html

Towards the end of the article, Jim Vesey, Jimmy's dad comments on the Nashville Predators and their interest in having his son turn pro. Vesey the elder makes a rather pointed comment about Jimmy being the one to make the call but adding "It's Harvard" when asked about the value of the degree. I don't know what to read into it but in the next paragraph, Jimmy talks about how much he has enjoyed his time at Harvard and his teammates. He will sit down after the season is over to discuss his future with his family. I still maintain that if Harvard wins it all, he leaves. If they don't, he stays to try and win it next year. Just my two cents.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

A couple of other interesting items related to the team in no particular order.

GoCrimson.com, the athletics web site, has been posting updates on the team all week. Apparently they took a private jet to South Bend. Not bad. I'm wondering who forked over the $$$ to make that happen as that is very un Harvard like to spend on such luxuries. Maybe the team is starting work its way back into the University's mindset.

Last night, after the Bruins game, Mike Felger and Mike Milbury did their show "Cross Check" in which they dissected the Bruins and their free fall. Their last segment on the show dealt with the possibility of Peter Chiarelli '87 and Claude Julien losing their jobs if the Bruins fail to make the playoffs. They put up a list of possible coaches to replace Julien and there at the end of the list was Teddy. Milbury immediately dismissed Teddy as a possibility but Felger argued the Bruins may want to go with someone "from inside the family" as Teddy once played for them. I'm with Milbury on this one. But what if Harvard did win it all this year and the Bruins fire Chiarelli and Julien? And suppose they hire Don Sweeney as Chiarelli's replacement? Would Donnie consider hiring Teddy? Would Teddy leave if offered the position? I wouldn't think so but you never know. Mike Babcock is up in Detroit but he wants personnel control and that isn't going to happen. Something to ponder while we wait for Saturday night.

Hopefully you guys have got it all figured out at the right moment. Good luck throughout the NCAAs (and then please finish 12th again next year. :p )

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

UNO fan here. Thought I'd read your thread to learn more about the Crimson. I think this game could be one of the more entertaining ones of the first round. It looks like you've got a highly skilled bunch.

UNO's success will boil down to scoring. I think if UNO scores 3, they'll win. But very few games the last 6 weeks has that happened. Ryan Massa, the goaltender, has been the best player and that's why we're here. He's battled health issues but is fully healthy for the tournament.

UNO's offense took a turn for the worse when captain Dominic Zombo left. He may be back, and if he can play, he's the heart and soul of the team.

As for the offense, the best line the last month has been the Parizek, Randolph, Vesel line. Good passing, and Parizek can finish.

Jake Guentzel and Austin Ortega are terrific together, and both have the ability to be right place right time.

This team can fly, they skate hard and play hard, and backcheck like crazy. The problem arises when they start chasing the puck, and shoot at the goaltender's chest too much.

It's going to be a great game!

Not going to happen especially if Vesey, McNally and Everson return next year and we stay healthy.

I'm not sure why you would say that 3 goals should do it. You haven't faced us this year. How do you know our goalie won't stone you guys? He did a number on a few teams this year including BU in their building.

Why did he leave? Health reasons I'm guessing. Other?

Bottom line. Neither team has a real advantage because we haven't seen each other since 2008 I believe and we play in different conferences. Team that makes the fewest mistakes and capitalizes on their chances will win the game.

I think if most teams score three they'll win. I wouldn't expect this to be a 7-6 game in either direction. (cue it being like a 10-8 game)

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

OK, now you're representing the entire conference. No pressure. ;)

Just kidding. Good luck. I hope somebody figured out how to bottle that first period from your game against Quinnipiac, and put it on the plane. If Harvard can find (and maintain) that form, nobody is going to beat them. Easier said than done, but why not? Go get 'em.
