Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

We got screwed. Not in terms of the bracket but the location. Don't they understand we're not traveling to South Bend? And they didn't even put us on an ESPN channel I have on FiOS!!!! F$%$K the NCAA.

And BC stays home in Providence?? You have got to be kidding. What a bag job.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

Can you imagine this team next year if Vesey returns and McNally and Blackwell get more eligibility?

Now I need to figure some things out. I have one trip East in me. Do I head out this weekend or do I pray/hope and head to Boston in a few weeks?

I think Blackwell is a junior and will be coming back next year. That is how he is listed on the roster. As far as McNally and Everson, it would be great if they could come back for one more season. We'd be loaded for bear.

As far as your trip planning, you'll only need to make one trip. We're headed for South Bend next weekend. Thanks a lot NCAA. The bracket is favorable however. I just can't believe Yale and BC stay East and we head west. We got royally screwed.

It's a good draw for you guys. Go out, keep playing like you have been, and your boys will be back home for a couple more games in a few weeks.
Providence being in Providence however (they are not a host school) is a joke.

It is a good draw but again, the travel is a killer. Three weeks in a row on the road. We deserved to be playing near home. It just doesn't make sense to bring both Minnesota teams here. And I agree about Providence. It looks like an arena filler move on the NCAA. Only logic I can apply to these brackets was to keep the ECAC schools away from each other, keep BC and BU away from each other and set up a possible BU-Harvard rematch in Boston.

Nah, how about a Yale-Harvard rematch in Boston.
Someone will have to add up to total number of minutes these two teams have played vs. each other this year. Gotta be an NCAA record.

Lyon would have to stand on his head and O'Connor is playing lights out for BU (despite the softie he gave up to UNH on Friday). And then of course you have BU's speed and skill up front. Eichel wants the Hobey before he departs for either Buffalo or Edmonton.

oh don't get me wrong, we are big underdog. Given injuries and suspensions affecting Miami and North Dakota, BU in the first round will be very very difficulty.
as for Lyon needing to stand on his head. I think that's a distinct possibility.

NoDak is playing in their home building which is a very tough place to win. They still have an abundance of talent and a very good goalie. Quinny will not have Anas I believe and they just got fed to the wolves. But that's why we play the games.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

Okay so the NCAA has zero respect for Harvard by sending us to ND even though the bracket looks pretty favorable. Fine. We'll go out there and win it and come home to play at TD Garden. At least we don't start until Saturday so we get some time to rest and practice here before flying out. ND's rink is beautiful with a big ice surface that should again favor us. And really ESPN, putting us on a channel that isn't available on FiOS? So now I have to watch on my iPad mini? Thanks a bunch. Double hose job.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

So who can weigh in on UNO? From what I hear, they play a run n gun style and have struggled in the 2nd half of the season. Are they healthy? Injured? Who are the players to watch out for and what are their strengths and challenges? What types of teams have had success against them this year? It will be interesting to see if they can match the speed and skill of Harvard's forwards.

I know very little about them and have not seen them play so would love some folks to weigh in.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

Would have to face the overall #1 (Minnesota State) if they get by UNO and Minnesota State defeat RIT. Interesting that they were ranked higher in the Pairwise than BC but the Eagles got to stay East. Definitely due to attendance. That's what we get for having lousy fans.

Bracket integrity wise, Harvard has no complaint. Their bracket is pure bracket integrity. And as you say, the committee would never keep Harvard east instead of a Providence in Providence or a BC for attendance reasons. I think you guys can beat Omaha. Saw Minnesota State last year in person and they gave Lowell fits. They are an even better team this year. Good luck. Also:

• Omaha vs. Harvard, 7:30 p.m. EDT Saturday, ESPN3/WatchESPN (tape delay: 8 a.m. EDT Sunday, ESPNU)

In the past a local channel has picked up any game not being broadcast LIVE on TV. So start sending emails to get this game picked up.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

We were the 9 seed so we get the 8 seed, the 1 seed and the 16 seed in our bracket. North Dakota hosted so they went to Fargo, leaving the one-seed Minny State to get South Bend and that's where we followed. Can't really complain. Hopefully the Harvard Club of Chicago decides to organize a trip down. Let's just hope we get to play in Boston two weeks from now.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

Really at this level they should screw the travel involved and just load the brackets with teams as they deserve to be instead of constantly tinkering to eliminate this and that. After juggling for spreading conferences away from each other, I think they should let the chips fall where they may after that.

Yeah, I get the whole 'bracket integrity' thing, but I'm completely in agreement with critsports on the whole way they determine the brackets. They should just get rid of the whole 'host school' nonsense and just put the teams where they deserve to be (with perhaps the only additional criteria being to avoid intra-conference matchups in the first round). With regards to attendance, the current system is just perpetuating the status quo instead of trying to attract more fans to the game. So more loyal fan bases just have it easier to see their teams play (even though they would be more likely to travel), whereas they make it even harder for teams that don't usually attract a lot of fans ("hey you know I hear Harvard has a pretty good hockey team but I've never been to a college hockey game so let's see if we can get tickets to see them in the NCAAS -- WHAT?? we have to go to South Bend Indiana??"). Yeah, yeah I get it -- it comes down to $$ and putting asses in the seats. I guess I should be thankful that money hasn't corrupted things as much in college hockey as it has in football and basketball.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

BTW -- I don't really care THAT much. Just had to get some opinions off my chest. The Crimson made their bed with their awful January/February record. If they can't make it through their bracket, they don't deserve a spot at the TD Garden and that's true of any team. I'm just grateful I'll be able to watch Saturday's game on WatchESPN on my Amazon Fire TV. Though I'll have to look for a place to watch the game on Sunday if they can beat UNO. Go Crimson!!

is it their home rink?
head coach said on selection show that it "was nice to be playing only 75 miles away"

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

First things first: Sincere congrats to your guys from a Cambridge native and alum of the only Beanpot school that didn't make it to the dance.

So far as next weekend goes: Remember that the field comprising the regional bracket is much more important than where it is played. There is no doubt in my mind that when Harvard is on its game, it can beat any of the other three teams in the Midwest Bracket. So, In my mind, you already have the inside track to the Gahden.

And having been to South Bend myself, here's a couple of tips. Try to fly directly into South Bend Airport (SBN), instead of Chicago. There are frequent flights into South Bend from Detroit, so save yourself some hassle by bypassing the need to rent a car or take a bus from Chicago. For lodging, remember that there are two parts to South Bend: Downtown and Eddy Commons. The latter is directly across from the ND campus and rink. Everything is within walking distance. Problem is that there was only one hotel (a Fairfield) in that part of town the last time I looked.

Plenty of Irish pubs tho. Good luck.

NoDak is playing in their home building....

Not true. UND is located in Grand Forks, not Fargo. I've never been there but from what I'm told, the Fargo building isn't nearly as nice as "The Ralph" (their home building).
