Harvard Crimson 2014-15

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-15

Arena at 8PM was quiet but it wasn't empty, a lot of people stayed :o

I think it's going to depend upon just how you define "a lot" and exactly when you took the count. The crowd slowly dwindled over the course of the game and by the third period it was well under a quarter full. Relative to the number of seats in the building it was pretty empty. That said, if you took the average of the attendance over the three periods, it probably did pretty well relative to the Beanpot and HE finals.

Question: Does Miye D'Oench have to sit out Sunday's game? I forget the difference between a game misconduct (total BS in my opinion as was the five minute major. Yes she deserved a penalty on the play but 15 minutes and the game? Are you kidding? Totally bogus) and a game disqualification? Which makes you serve the next game?

Box score says game misconduct.

There is no suspension with a game misconduct. The suspension comes from a game disqualification penalty.

Does anyone know if WHRB will be carrying the game tomorrow afternoon. 'HRB usually prefers to play opera recordings on Sundays but it is a Harvard team in a national championship.

I was listening to the kids tonight while watching the men win the ECAC tournament and they didn't say anything about covering the game. In fact, they said the next time they would be on air for Harvard hockey will be for the men's NCAA appearance. Either next Friday or Saturday.

I'm off to see "Red Army" in preparation for tomorrow.

I've heard it's a gritty picture. I read the SI piece on the making of the film and what those players went through was close to inhuman. Of course it was the Soviets so no surprise there.

Check whrb.org as they might have an online broadcast for it and not one over the radio. The downside of the new technology that allows them to broadcast more games is that it means the radio station is less likely to bump regular programming for them.

It's not so much that it was the Soviets as it was that it was Viktor Tikhonov. His predecessor, Anatoly Tarasov, was the complete opposite in just about every way except winning a lot of games. He was horrified by some of the things that Tikhonov did once he took over and thought it was inhumane. A lot more former players showed up for Tarasov's funeral than for Tikhonov's.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-15

Well that was a bit disappointing. I have to feel sorry for the girls who have worked so hard for so long to get here. I am forced to admit that Minnesota deserved the win. A bit faster than Harvard and their D did an awesome job of breaking up Harvard's offense.

If any of the Harvard team should read this: Thank you very much for the pleasure watching you has given me. To the seniors, best of luck in the future whatever you may do, to the others I look forward to seeing you next year.

Agree on all counts. It was a great year nonetheless. We don't have a Hannah Brandt. Can't recruit a player like her. Still our kids worked hard and did a lot this year to make us proud. Congrats to the seniors. We'll miss you but know that you'll be successful in whatever you choose to do going forward. And we'll look forward to seeing the returning players and new kids next October.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-15

I'm very impressed with how Harvard turned its season around (not like it was terrible early, but I think you all know what I mean) and built a championship-caliber club. Minnesota had a little more scoring punch at this stage of everyone's career, and I thought that was ultimately the difference today. The Crimson should be very proud of their Frozen Four and season as a whole.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-15

Congrats on a great team and season. I hope we continue to meet on a regular basis.

It was almost as much fun as a game against Wisconsin, would definitely enjoy a week with them any time it could be arranged! A very very good team.

I understand being disappointed after being this close but if someone told you at the beginning of the season they said you would have the season you did & in exchange would have to 'settle' for second place would you not have grabbed that & said YES!? Even as a Gopher fan I know that is more than what should be expected. So many things can go wrong, so many slips can derail even a team as good as Harvard or Minnesota and in the end there are only 40 some kids that can have the chance each year to lose a national championship. I hope the Harvard players know how well they did & how lucky they were to have that opportunity because it is guaranteed to nobody & they earned every inch of it. They played a heck of a game & should be proud of what they did because there are a couple hundred players who would have gladly changed places with them. The deserve congratulations on a great season & I hope we meet next March!
