Harvard Crimson 2014-15

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-15

In terms of that cliché, "peaking at the right time," you may want to note that the team has scored 11 goals in the last four periods and hasn't given up an even strength goal in almost 3 games (176 minutes 23 seconds of play).

Great stat!

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-15

If the NCAA really wants to create a neutral site feeling, why not set up neutral sites and be done with it?
They don't draw well the way it is now. If they played a game in Toledo or Albany, there might be 250 people there. Once North Dakota lost, there was nobody at the WCHA Championship game for Bemidji versus Wisconsin in Grand Forks.

You missed the sentence that followed what you quoted. But you're right, fan support is not what it should be. Mike Emerick on today's national TV broadcast on NBC mentioned the women's Frozen Four and the participating teams. Women's hockey needs a contract with NBCSN to really bring exposure to the game and perhaps help with attendance. Maybe I'm just whistling in the wind. We did a very good job promoting "White the Bright" and had a great opponent in Cornell. But consistent attendance including tournaments is needed badly.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-15

I think a lot of people were surprised and truthfully, I felt that only one of the goals could be attributed to her failing to make the stop. Reber's goal was a backhander that slid across and under her pads. She has proven to be one of the top goalies in women's hockey and you're right, as a senior, she deserved to skate off with her teammates. It was a panic move by a coach who by that time knew his team was in deep trouble.

Agreed ("Harrumph"). She deserved better. No way she could have stopped the first two goals. Have to say also, Quinny looked better than the final score. A few bounces their way and it would have been closer. Not that I think they were a few bounces from winning, but they were much better than the score reflects.

I for one was shocked when Sealy pulled Laden after the third goal. What does it say to his team? And I felt it was a real slap in the face for a senior who had a great year and finished her NCAA career with being pulled. How awful. Why not put her back in after the forth goal and finish the year. Makes the player look like just a commodity or asset and not a person. I felt real bad for her and hope she is ok!

She had a great year, with great stas, and helped her team get to the tournament for their first time ever. I'm glad Clarkson doesn't have to deal with him anymore!!!!

True, he could have put Laden back in to close things out but that really isn't the way most coaches think. When the change was made five minutes into the second Quinny got the message and started to play. Typical response from those off the ice is that the goalie is pulled as an indictment of her play, when just as often it is about the play of the five in front of her. After the pull Quinny outshot Harvard 9-2 for the period.

True. It didn't really feel like a 5-0 game until midway through the third period. If Quinny had scored on that second period late PP, it might have been a tighter game. Maybe then Laden would have been put back in the game.

It was probably over at 2-0. Quinnipiac didn't have much comeback potential.

They didn't but that didn't stop them from pressing the Crimson in the latter half of the second period. And a break here and there and it would have been a different game. But yes, they are lacking in offensive skill.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-15

Congratulations to the players and coaches...what a season.

This has been a long time coming......I remember being in Providence when they lost the final (one of many) but I remember the radio broadcast when AJ, playing with one arm, won the puck in the corner and went hard to the net. Sixteen years! The current players were toddlers. Let's hope this is finally it.

Ironically, I'm going out of the country tomorrow and won't see Sunday's game on archive until early April. and obviously won't be looking at this board until then either

Before observing radio silence, here's a question about the announcer for Driventoit. Wasn't it amazing how Hilary Crowe recovered so quickly from her broken arm and was on the ice for so many shifts tonight! (LOL)

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-15

Wondrous strange. Start out the Harvard/BC rubber match with an instant GOAL/NO GOAL. Maschmeyer. No D'Oench, yes Crowe. Maschmeyer. Endless PK, scrambled lines. Maschmeyer. Edney to Parker (my guys!) for SHG/GWG. Against that team?! Maschmeyer. NCAA ramp 'em up with gladiatorial circus lights, then bring 'em back down to earth with an empty arena at 8:00 o'clock central. Women's hockey capital indifferent to the mysterious east. Maschmeyer. NCAA's aggressive indifference to the games more than illustrated by clueless, maddening play-by-play. Maschmeyer. Wondrous strange.

Just impressions, really. Did this game actually happen? I do know that the Crimson face Minnesota tomorrow . . . GO HARVARD

Yes the play by play was preposterous, and clueless and maddening.
Maschmeyer was wonderous (hope she got it out of her system)
Arena at 8PM was quiet but it wasn't empty, a lot of people stayed :o

I don't know what they are serving in the houses at Harvard these days but Hilary Crowe and Pat McNally have made fairly amazing recoveries in such a short period of time.

What a game. Maschmeyer is playing out of this world at the moment and that is exactly what we need going into Sunday's final. Mary Parker is playing like one of the best players in the country. The Kalley Armstrong goal was a softie to be sure and maybe Burt had some nervous jitters. Who knows. What I do know is that we are the best team in the East and we now get a chance to prove we are the best in women's college hockey.

Question: Does Miye D'Oench have to sit out Sunday's game? I forget the difference between a game misconduct (total BS in my opinion as was the five minute major. Yes she deserved a penalty on the play but 15 minutes and the game? Are you kidding? Totally bogus) and a game disqualification? Which makes you serve the next game?

Man what a weekend! The guys playing for the ECAC tournament tonight and a chance to go to the NCAAs and the women playing for the championship tomorrow. Hockey Heaven!!

A DQ carries the automatic suspension.
