Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Wondering out loud. Does Tommy Amaker have to abide by the same AI restrictions? Could it be that admissions is looking the other way on some of his admits to help the program? Again, no data or inside info here. I'm speculating much the same as Bothman. I don't want Harvard to ever go down the HE sinkhole for admissions but I don't want to believe they are coming down hard on the hockey program either.
There's no sport-by-sport AI restriction. Just that the average AI of ALL athletes has to be within 1 standard deviation of the overall student body average. So a school could certainly decide to let in a handful of dumb-as-rocks basketball players and then recruit a bunch of geniuses who can just baaaaaarely play squash to balance them out. I'm not saying that's what Harvard is doing, but boy do they get some good basketball players. :)

Football is separate.

Pretty sure its because the coach just commits poor students and good hockey players and just assumes it will work out and they will get their grades up. Losing Fiddler, Plant, Magnus and Fortunato late really, really hurts and I cant imagine the team will be much better next year. Sure, some high end talent up front---but the back end is suspect and im worried goaltending will be too. Im also hearing Albie O'Connell--the coach that recruited the poor students---is leaving as well... sinking ship...

Magnus?

what's that jim calhoun line...get some facts? can't say a program that had bob cousy, dr. tom davis, gary williams has no history. and skinner had bc very competitive in ACC. bc had some very good years including a close title game loss to duke. foolish comment. all that being said, i have no idea what amaker makes at harvard.

BC hoops hasn't been relevant for how many decades now? Glad Amaker saw light and when he does leave Harvard, it will be for a real program that can compete.

Enjoy UConn's 4th NCAA final since 1999. Now that is relevance!

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

once again you sound like a moron unless the only way to be "relevant" in your twisted mind is to win national titles. if that's the case, there are a lot of irrelevant programs out there including harvard.

although considering you're admitting bc was once relevant, it wasn't "decades" ago. they were very closeto an elite 8 and acc championship not too long ago, within the past 10 years. if that is being irrelevant, sign me up...along with most programs around the country. you have no clue what you are talking about but i can't really blame you. i don't think you even knew harvard had a basketball team prior to amaker arriving.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

easy big guy.
BC basketball is in all sense irrelevant.
He has a great natl rep and us a rising star, why in the hell would he ever go to BC? He wouldnt. If he repeats last year or even worse he will maintain that status. If he goes to BC and they dont well he eill lose the momentum.
BC basketball is in a great league, good school but not a marque job.

No chance he wohld go there and shouldnt

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

typical hoky post. i never said amaker should have taken the bc job nor do i even know if he was offered.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

and yes, they are obviously irrelevant right now...nobody has said otherwise

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

either way bc is a below avg job that no top 40 or 50 coach would want.

irrelevant program

yes, irrelevant right now...i already said that

and always will be
you go there to get paid. not elevate status and win

same as football.

only great program is hockey and its their third sport, thus the problem

thank God for Jerry York.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

maybe you will be proven right, but that was never the argument here. although a not so distant example in football proves otherwise. tom o'brien won enough at bc to get a bigger job/payday at nc state. and while addazio hire was widely criticized, he has done a great job so far turning a dumpster fire into something respectable. had a winning year and recruiting is already going well. i never said either was a great job, however. you're arguing with yourself on that, something you enjoy doing.

:D
you just made bu hockey relevant!!!

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Don't think i wrote this before, but Harvard picks up arguably the top 1998 goalie (recently selected for usndt) Joe Woll.

and he will be playing behind the 99 golaie Q picked up, Keith Petruzzella

I agree with this should his development continue in the positive direction. Over the boards had a tidbit that Petruzzelli is being hyped as the next American phenom. However a lot can happen in a few years. #1 is keeping him away from the QMJHL and getting him to Hamden.

This is a great line. I'll have to remember it when Harvard finally becomes respectable in men's hockey. Whenever that happens.

zero chance of Q, 100% zero

I never say never with those major junior teams especially after losing Peter Quenneville to the WHL this year and Chase Harwell over the summer to the Q. One good thing is we have his brother DJ committed as well so that will help keep him in Hamden.
