nice bball game today.

of course this should only reinforce the need to change the guard on the hockey bench. (but most of you know this already - it's just that other guy)

Why would Amsker go to a horrible BC program with zero history? Will never challenge in ACC. Should have waited for an oppty at a better program.

Amaker has decided to stay at Harvard. Stick it to BC even if we can't beat them in hockey. Their basketball program is a joke.

Not happy to hear about the decommits. Clearly the men's hockey program doesn't rate anymore with admissions. Or with Scalise. Something has to be done. We've been losing too many players who could have helped the program.

Huge losses. The best comparison I can think of to fortunato is Shane G at Union. This was our puck moving / pp qb for the next 4 yrs.

After watching Gostisbehere this past weekend, the fact that Fortunato could be mentioned in the same sentence with him really hurts. SG is a franchise player. We need those types in order to compete. How many more of these setbacks do we need before someone wakes up and smells the coffee? Again, does anyone care? And why should we keep buying tickets if the admin and athletic department aren't willing to invest the resources including a coaching staff that will allow us to compete with HE and our own conference? Do they really think that the renovations are going to draw more fans? What planet are they living on?

Okay, enough venting. It's useless anyway because they don't seem to listen or care.

Hokydad - The recruiting talk caught my interest and I check the Crimson on a recruiting site. I did not see Trevor Fidler listed as a Harvard recruit. Is this a typo; old news that I missed; or another de-commit?

See post 332 in this thread. de-commit.

Just to be clear, I don't believe he 'de-committed' in that I interpret that word as someone choosing to play somewhere else.

I don't want to speculate since I have no inside information, but according to the pundits, all 3 players could not get thru admissions. And if they had, they would absolutely be matriculating at Harvard.

Obviously don't disagree with you on the other two, but I thought Fiddler might have been Teddy's call due to a less than stellar performance over the last season? Not basing that on anything other than speculation.

Thanks. My worst fears were realized. I had always been under the impression that Harvard would be an academic "reach" for Fidler - as it is for most - and I was hoping it would work out for him and his family. I recall him "committing" a couple of years ago and now, in hindsight, question if that was the correct strategy: taking oneself off of the market with the hope of being AI worthy and admittable at an Ivy. Thanks again.

Wondering out loud. Does Tommy Amaker have to abide by the same AI restrictions? Could it be that admissions is looking the other way on some of his admits to help the program? Again, no data or inside info here. I'm speculating much the same as Bothman. I don't want Harvard to ever go down the HE sinkhole for admissions but I don't want to believe they are coming down hard on the hockey program either.

Pretty sure its because the coach just commits poor students and good hockey players and just assumes it will work out and they will get their grades up. Losing Fiddler, Plant, Magnus and Fortunato late really, really hurts and I cant imagine the team will be much better next year. Sure, some high end talent up front---but the back end is suspect and im worried goaltending will be too. Im also hearing Albie O'Connell--the coach that recruited the poor students---is leaving as well... sinking ship...

what's that jim calhoun line...get some facts? can't say a program that had bob cousy, dr. tom davis, gary williams has no history. and skinner had bc very competitive in ACC. bc had some very good years including a close title game loss to duke. foolish comment. all that being said, i have no idea what amaker makes at harvard.
