Red Line Report recently noted that Brain Hart was far and away the best player at the Beantown Classic, and a likely 2nd Round pick in the 2012 Draft.

No fallout regarding Calof. You can't cry over spilled milk and Donato must focus on what he's got as opposed to what could have been.

Harvard has a very solid incoming freshman class coming in and I'd like for Donato to focus his energy on melding the team - something that has been lacking over the last seveal years.

I really think that Harvard can challenge for a first round bye in the ECACs this year. They didn't lose much and it will all depend on how quickly Michalek can adjust to the college game. It will be interesting to see where he gets drafted - unlike Iles at Cornell (who came in equally heralded), Michalek has a much more prototypical body to be a NHL goalie. He's 6'3'' and covers a ton of space in the net.

Back to the recruits, 2012 looks to be an average recruiting year for Harvard. I think Brian Hart can be a stud and challenge for ECAC rookie of the year (if he doesn't go to Princeton or BC before he matriculates) :). Other than him, I think Harvard's class is comprised of depth and role players - Vesey could have some upside. I would assume (academics permitting) that Marc Biega will be verballing to Harvard shortly and he would be a very good pickup.

Blackwell is very skilled but should do a year or 2 juniors first. One of the issues with kids coming to early is they get there, dont worry as much about the hockey and focus on summer jobs etc. which is fine but why not do bothj

Vesey is exactly what Harvard needs, a throwback city type player. Big strong F who can score and who has a ton of grit. He is exactly what Harvard needs. He will get drafted by someone

Interesting article on college hockey players in the finals and the NHL. Most interesting thing to me was the huge increase of college hockey players in the NHL in the last 10 years. Now imagine in the last 20 -25 years? I still believe there is enough talent out there provided the right coaching for Harvard to win now, but the simple fact is that the conditions from the 80's are gone and there is a new reality to face for Harvard.

This may be old new but Danny Linell of Choate has signed with BC, this according to a teammate.

First, congrats to Harvard alums Peter Chiarelli, Don Sweeney and John Weisbrod for the Stanley Cup victory last night.

Second, Harvard's schedule is all but complete. The only thing missing are dates for the Dartmouth series (held the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving last year) and the possibility that a couple of ECAC games might get moved to midweek games around the Beanpot.

EDIT- Ken Schott released Union's schedule so that game will be moved. Still possible the weekend before will see a game moved as well.

EDIT: The Friday game at Quinnipiac looks like a possible candidate to get moved for the Beanpot. (This is just my guess here since traveling to Princeton midweek will be difficult, unless during winter-break.)

Will certainly be a tough non-conference slate, especially with a good amount of road games. Odd to see them all in a row like that as well. Get to see a few new teams though so that's exciting.

The Friday game at Quinnipiac and either the Friday game vs. RPI or the Saturday game vs. Union look like possible candidates to get moved for the Beanpot. (In '08 Harvard played RPI midweek- Election Day to be exact.)

I also heard about an exhibition game with Brown in October. I would have also thought that Princeton and Union would be the ones to move.

Brown is a scrimmage more than an exhibition and will be held at Meehan this year. It's not a score that will get reported by either Athletic Dept. nor will either school put it on the schedule if past years hold true.

True. Still counts against the 34, although not against the ivy-imposed 29, and not for the stats, as you had already noted. Special ivy rules can be quite confusing at times.

Is there an exhibition against a Canadian team? Also, are any of the hockey players spending the summer in Cambridge training for the upcoming season?

No word yet on the former. As for the latter, it wouldn't surprise me if there are but I haven't heard anything.

Bobby Jay resigned as an Assistant Coach about three months ago. There has been no announcement about a successor. Obviously this void hasn't helped with our recruiting or preparation for the season. Could it be that potential Assistants are shunning Harvard for fear that Donato is not for long?

Good sign seeing players drafted, though of course, no guarantee of success, especially in their first year. As long as they develop and get developed properly, this class should have a very good 4 years at Harvard.

Any leads on the new assistant coach? I can imagine they would have some difficulties, but this long of a wait? Doesn't bode well.
