This forum is dead. Does anyone know where the new Harvard Hockey 2011-2012 lives? Could you please post the link on this page?

Well, not quite. I think it has been tough because the team hasn't been winning for several years. But there are positives to take away from the first half of the season. We are #1 in the nation on the power play and the frosh have really injected some life into the program. Colin Blackwell is the fastest player we have had since Stevie Martins and if Michalek continues to improve, we might prove a difficult out in the playoffs. I think we are going to get better as the season progresses and who knows what might happen come March? The team is much more fun to watch these days with more offensive skill and better playmakers. I think the new assistants are having an effect on the overall play and that can only improve in the second half.

So, all in all, not bad and getting better. I'm pleasantly surprised and looking forward to January.

Happy Holidays everyone!

I regret to inform you that this is it. I will say that Skate79's comments mirror my thoughts and the hockey is a lot more fun to watch this year.

“I’m learning so much from the guys here, Erik Cole, .......” (Former Clarkson Player) :)

I saw the goal. He was in the right place at the right time. Bang Bang play. I know that he is living his dream at the moment and for that, I'm happy for him. But I can't help but think about how he could help the Crimson this year possibly making them a threat to finish in the top four. He's that good. I can't believe that if he had stayed at Harvard, the Canadians would have turned their back on him. Then again...

By the way, at the end of the quote, he credits Thomas Kaberle as one of the players helping him as well as Cole. Kaberle?? Are you kidding me? Please Louis stay away from that guy if you know what's good for you.

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Just looked at Goals for Good website and Harvard fans are at the bottom with ZERO donations/pledges. All the ECAC teams (men's and women's) are raising funds via pledges from fans for goals or wins. Each school has their own charity - Harvard is supporting Friends of Jaclyn. You may have seen the men's team honorary member Nathan Potvin at a game (gallery embed doesn't work here anymore - http://hockeyphotography.photoshelter.com/gallery/Nathan-Potvin/G0000I8FfbP1RwW0

In addition to the pledges, you can now make a specific donation. Check it out here - http://goalsforgood.org/Harvard (donation instructions/links at bottom of page)

Sorry to have been mostly AWOL lately...finals and then break, but here's a new post with a quick look at the stats so far on the season.

Hope everyone tunes in tonight for Harvard at North Dakota. WHRB.org.

Solid performance by Harvard in a tough environment in Grand Forks. Down 4-2 in the 3rd, Harvard really showed grit & resolve. Looking forward to tomorrow night and the 2nd half of the ECAC.

Win or lose, this Harvard team is fun to watch. They haven't exhibited this kind of fight for years!

Good tie against North Dakota. Cornell thanks you for giving us a Common Opponent win against ND. ;) Solidify it tonight with a win.

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

A couple of thoughts coming out of this series:

1) Harvard has to get much tighter defensively - much better communication is needed. Many of the UND goals came from Harvard allowing too much space for guys like Kristo to work in. Similarly, way too many defensive turnovers. Harvard's defense is really its achilles at this point in the season.
2) Michalek had a tough night on Saturday. Granted, he was hung out to dry a bunch (see #1 aboive), but he has to be better. He's going to be a star for Harvard when all is said and done...but he has so me work to do - particularly on his glove and his tendency to overcommit.
3) Harvard's PP is great. Reminds me of the old days. Great spacing, great puck movement, and finally, defenseman (Biega & McNally) who can QB. If Harvard can get teams to commit penalties, they will be a tough out in the 2nd half of the ECAC
4) Lines - I don't understand why Valek is killing penalties and is on the 2nd line. He doesn't skate well enough to kill penalties, and Blackwell needs more wheels to work with. This is where the injury to Connor Morrison really hurts. He'd be perfect for the 2nd line and his absence exposes Harvard's lack of depth.

Really looking forward to the 2nd half of the season. I think that Harvard should be shooting for a Top 4 finish.

Here's my brief preview of tonight's game: Link

I've been excited for it since it got announced and can't wait to get there. Anyone else going?

(And of course, if you're not going, listen on 95.3 FM or WHRB.org.)

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

FYI, the H and the numbers were actually felt. Got an exception to go without numbers on the sleeves, the only thing I don't like about them.

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

For sure the lads at Colgate and Cornell feel for more bummed that our guys... AND yale loses TWO! Not a bad weekend.

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Eight ties - is there a record for most ties in a season. They aren't great but better than losses. Jut odd though, 9 OT games and 8 ties is more than I can remember.

As far as I can tell, yes, it is a record. The previous high was six (91-92 and 08-09). Link

One shot over the final two periods for you guys tonight? I've never heard of anything like that! What was the problem? Just curious.
