Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

Re: Harvard 2011-12 Thread: Celebrating our 375th

1.) Pick a better name for your fans. We know there's only 1 fan base that's earned the name faithful in the ECAC and it's not you by a long shot.

2.) About your 375th: DIIIIEEE, DROP DEAD, GO HOME.

3.) See you on Friday :p

Hey, you think Coach Mikey is going to throw another fish back at the "Faithful" this year? One of the best images ever, outside of a completely silent Lynah Rink filing past the press box.

"The fans hurt us,” Schafer said. “They want the tradition to live, but it absolutely killed us tonight. It was disappointing. The students who really, really want something from this team and those that have been complaining about how the athletic department is trying to crack down on it, didn’t use their brains as far as their support of our team.”

Every fanbase has its boneheads. I don't think he'll care about fish thrown at Lynah East.

You liked the silent Lynah because it reminded you of Bright - made you feel right at home:p

Well, if you ever have the chance to fly on a 787 on your way to a poetry convention, you can be thankful that I went to a better engineering school than Harvard. :)

At last check, the poetry convention sold out in two hours. Apparently Cornell grads thought they were signing up for a symposium entitled "Mastering the Art of the Motel 6 Buffet".

Alas, Cornell grads are employed. Unlike Harvard poets who sulk all day while hugging their diplomas.

I was thinking of going over tonight but saw no tickets online available. Game must be sold out. I didn't want to drive over there for nothing. Wanted to see how HU looked this year and see a game tonight but I guess next time.

Plenty of seats available. I walked up and bought a great seat 30 minutes before the drop of the puck. 3-2 Harvard after 2. Already there have been 3 major penalties handed out with Danny Biega kicked out for hitting from behind.

Wonder why they didn't have them available online or indicate any tickets available on their calendar or ticket section. Must be a flaw in the system. Good win by HU tonight for their first win.

Happy for the win tonight against Colgate. Harvard looked good to me. I did think the officiating was a bit spotty. There was no real need for the scuffle with about 5 minutes to go in the second period. For those who did not see it a Colgate player had dropped his broke stick and then went to his knees, holding the puck with his hands and the covering it with his body. If the refs were alert that whistled for a delay of game or falling/diving on the puck penalty. Due to the non-call by the refs, there was a 30 second flurry of slashing, pushing as players tried to break the puck free from the player holding it.. The result was a major and DQ for a Colgate player and 3 roughing minors by each team. Happily no one was injured but the whole scuffle would not have started if the ref had blow his whistle when the initial penalty occurred.

Some thoughts about last night's game:

Colin Blackwell is going to be fun to watch. What a dynamo! This kid creates offense where none exists. He is the fastest player we have had since Stevie Martins. His goal in the third period was a thing of beauty and he could have had another several minutes later with a toe drag move. He also isn't afraid to go into the corners.

Harvard still has problems creating offense. They don't move their feet all that well and their skill level is obviously not great. That said, they took advantage of the PPs and it was the difference in the game. That plus some questionable goaltending by the Colgate goalie. Defensively, we did a decent job of keeping Colgate away from Michalek. He made a great save in the third period but otherwise, he didn't have many difficult chances to handle.

Gotta love the way the Crimson came out in the third period. Without Biega, Fallstrom and Killorn, they skated the Raiders out of the building putting constant pressure in the offensive zone. Hopefully they can keep that up.

And finally, Colgate is a bunch of gutless pukes. They way they went after Killorn trying to put him out of the game was embarrassing. Their coach Don Vaughn is a *******. Complaining to the refs after one of his guys sent Killorn flying headfirst into the boards. Yeah, right. Simply pathetic. I hope they finish dead last. I've lost total respect for them.

A question for any Harvard fan. Thinking of coming down Tuesday night for the UNH game. Any thoughts on parking near the Bright Center and also if there's a dedicated visitor's seating section in your building. If we come down via public trans and get off the red line at Harvard Square, would it be about a 15 minute walk across the river to the arena? Any info would be appreciated.

Skyraider0609: If you drive you can park in the Business School which is just across N. Harvard Street from the Harvard Stadium and Bright Center. If you use public trans it is just about a 15 minute walk to the rink. Should not be a hassle either way. There is really not much in the way of "dedicated" seating but you probably want to sit behind the UNH bench which is on the west side of the ice.

YOu will have no trouble getting a seat since the student body is indifferent to the hockey program. Gotta win to get their butts in the seats.

Have a blast!

Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to the game.

Been great student crowds at the last four home games (Princeton and Cornell the most, obviously). If there's poor attendance for UNH, will probably have something to do with the Thanksgiving holiday and the fact that most students are leaving over the next two days more than anything.

New recruit for Harvard for the Class of '13. Frederick Gauthier out of Collège Esther-Blondin outside of Montreal. He will play in the USHL and then matriculate at Harvard.

He's described as 6'4'' 210lbs and a center that can fly and shoot. He has the chance of being selected in the top 3 rounds of the 2013 NHl Draft.

Harvard beat out Cornell for his services. Sounds like a great recruit, but something tells me the Q may still have a shot at him.
