Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

That's what I said! I mean, I get fox and MSNBC. At least they have angles. Right or wrong.

CNN just doesn't have a ******ing clue. The face of their network is a moron that comes off as stupid as Sarah Palin or that fat chick from milwaukee. Between AC and Nancy Grace, I have no idea who ****es me off more.

Ever heard of changing the channel?:p

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

I can't tell is the new cap there temporarily just to test something or if it works (and there aren't other leaks) is it there for good?

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Apologies if this stuff has been posted before:

Interesting articles, graphics, etc.:

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/06/21/us/20100621-bop.html?ref=us
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/21/us/21blowout.html?_r=1&hp=&pagewanted=all

All I can say is that I didn't fully understand the complexity of a BOP. They're 54 feet tall!

My dad and I had a great talk last night about the possible causes and what might happen with the new cap once it was in place (and today it is and appears to be holding).

Temporarily, but that means they can pump into barges without losing any. I doubt they can penetrate the well with the new wells with that cap in place. Too much pressure to get the mud and concrete in there.

Its a good stop gap for right now until they have everything set to go in and seal the well up. Having all of that oil out in open water is just a bad idea. Now the skimmers have a chance to keep up with the slicks.

Personally, I don't see why the Goverment just require the major oil companies to build a series of tubes, say about 12 to 15 feet across, that could be assembled to reach a depth of say 2 miles down. The next time something like this happens, they can bring the tubes there, assemble them, and then the tube over the leaking pipe, so that the oil only has one way to go, up.

My Toilet spilled today, the shut off valve failed. So now my whole basement apartment is under water. My apartment was built 20 years ago to the lowest bidder. Shortcuts were made. I feel a deep parallel with the Gulf.

Drop a pretty big deuce in there to try and clog up the leak.

Otherwise, just nuke the toilet.

But that defeats the purpose of having tubes. Things go DOWN the tubes. Not UP them! What are you, CRAZY?!?

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

so far so good with the cap?

Apparently pressures aren't hitting what they thought they might hit. Possible leak in another area? possible that a great deal of the oil projected to be there has leaked out causing lower pressure or the guess at what pressure would be is off.
