Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

We're going to get the Event Horizon back from Hell, cleared out of demons, and retrofitted before they stop the stupid leak from the Deepwater Horizon.

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

I would assume the administration's lawyers would have pursued the recusal issue if they felt a need to, and if they felt it unjustly played into his decision now, you'd think we'd be hearing about it from the media friendly to the administration.

That said, recusal for this type of thing seems a logical outcome.

Unless Obama planned it all, knew he was assured of losing the decision to a judge on the take, but wanted to posture about shutting down drilling without actually risking the negative effects to the local economy.

(If we ever had a Machiavellian administration that was also that competent, we'd probably be in a lot less trouble. :p )

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Hey, why don't we just shut down all gas stations also. After all, they are at least remotely tied to BP and/or the Gulf.

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

And anyone put out of work can seek compensation from BP.
You don't have a problem with people being out of work as long as someone is paying them? Moreover, this isn't a case of the spill directly putting them out of work. The Federal government has chosen to put them out of work.

Station owners have sought relief from BP because of the boycott.

The "federal government" has new safety restrictions (gee, I wonder why) and none of the companies meet them.

Because they are still too ambiguous and have not been finalized. Typical from the gov't. Require companies to meet new restrictions but then not define the restrictions adequately. A stealthy way to shut down all drilling.

The Americans, overwhelmed by the catastrophic consequences of the BP spill, finally relented and took the Dutch up on their offer -- but only partly. Because the U.S. didn't want Dutch ships working the Gulf, the U.S. airlifted the Dutch equipment to the Gulf and then retrofitted it to U.S. vessels. And rather than have experienced Dutch crews immediately operate the oil-skimming equipment, to appease labour unions the U.S. postponed the clean-up operation to allow U.S. crews to be trained.
I do wish there were some sources listed for this but appalling if true.

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Unions are socialist though, of course he would.

But Obama is blocking action on the spill to force the crisis that pushes through cap and trade and blocking action on immigration to force the crisis that pushes through amnesty, so clearly he would block the unions to force the crisis that pushes through a full-scale Bolshevik revolution.

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

One of the top restaurants in N'awlins is suing.

I wish them luck, they're going up against a heavy hitter.

Of course, they should win. BP should not be getting much favor in this settlement or any other, as far as I'm concerned. They've created this mess and deserve to deal with the consequences.

*Cue the pro-screwing-of-America-by-corporations rhetoric from a certain group of posters*

Not really relevant, but Bayona really is a great place. Mrs. EoDS and I didn't eat there on our recent trip, but we did have drinks in their beautiful courtyard, and all the meals I saw on people's tables looked and smelled great from afar.
