Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Well said. People are far to quick to blithely make this sort of far-fetched comparison.

Why is it far-fetched? Is Sharon Tate more dead than the workers on BP's oil rigs? Charles Manson is in prison for life for his crimes. What is justice for the victims of Hayward's crimes? Bad publicity? Ohhh, that'll learn him!

The preceding message was paid for by political contributions by BP.

Negligence (the extent of which is still being determined) is a far different concept than premeditated murders. It takes a great deal of oversimplification to make them seem remotely the same.

You're going to split hairs between insidious and pernicious?

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

You folks just aren't thinking big enough.

Note the Echo Chamber rhetoric, "Is there a cover up going on? I'm not saying there necessarily is..." It's going to be a fun fall with these guys running their mouths.

No need to split hairs between Manson and BP. There's a chasm of difference. I really can't believe I'm having to try to explain to people that BP's actions, as bad as they may be, aren't like the Manson Family's actions. Sometimes this board is just amazing.

You're right. Manson didn't kill for money. Money is the root of all Evil. Thus BP is worse.

Thanks.

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

That's fine. But what I was responding to was this:

And sorry but huskyfan cannot know that. If Tony took the risk in the spirit of profit than Tony WISHED it wouldn't happen. I'd equate it to a drunk driver. A drunk driver doesn't want to get in an accident but he/she is not doing everything in their power not to get in one cause they drove the car.

Well, Tony drove the car drunk in this case. I don't think there is any question about that.

Charge him with DUI and Vehicular Manslaughter?

Or...Murder 2...depraved indifference? His (BP) actions lead directly to the killing of 11 workers.

Using my "Law and Order" TV show Law Degree I'd say depraved indifference is in order here.

I guess for the moral equivalency folks around here that'll make them feel good. Manson was clearly Murder 1 and that's "worse".

What never ceases to amaze me is how folks will automatically think Murder One is so much worse than Murder 2.

Rep Joe Barton apologized to the BP exec and then retracted the apology.
That's just sick politics and money. Plus BP has the worst safety violations 90% accorording to OSHA, not to mention the email memos about safety by employees and contract several months before the rig blowup.

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-oil-barton-20100619,0,5554560.story

Many of Barton's colleagues were stunned this week when he apologized to BP Chief Executive Tony Hayward for the establishment of the $20-billion escrow fund to benefit oil spill victims, which the White House negotiated with the company. At the nationally televised hearing, Barton said it was "a tragedy of the first proportion that a private corporation can be subjected to what I would characterize as a shakedown."

Within hours he apologized for his apology.

In 2005, Barton chaired a conference committee considering an energy bill to provide royalty and other breaks for oil and gas companies, including special incentives for drilling on the outer continental shelf.

The bill included $50 million over 10 years for the Ultra-Deepwater and Unconventional Natural Gas and Other Petroleum Resources Research Fund, a project supported by Walter Mize, the late Texas businessman who sold Barton an interest in a natural gas well in 2008.

Re: Gulf Oil Spill 2010

Do you also feel sorry for Charles Manson? etc.

Are you people crazy? Or are you being sarcastic to illustrate a point about the public's kneejerk stupidity? I'm doubting my sarcasm detector on this whole topic. Should Obama be sentenced to death for under-regulating deepwater drilling? "Oh but he was responsible for the deaths of all those fine people..."

Hilarious.

Under-regulating? But he's a Communist so he must be guilty of over-regulating. I mean, that's what Communists want, right?
