Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

wait, wait, wait....$2000 for a bike? Really? I missed that earlier. $2000! I paid that much for my Jeep! A real, 4x4 Jeep Wrangler, with a rebuilt engine and new clutch! That is insane, $2000 for a bicycle.

When I am not coaching or trucking the boys from one sport to another my favorite activity is mountainbiking. Single track, deep woods stuff and I have about $2400 invested in my bike. It is a full suspension Cannondale, with disc brakes. Now you may think that is a lot of money but I put more miles a year on my bike that most people do on their motorcylces, ATV's, boats, snowmobiles etc.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

I've been playing some pickup indoor soccer recently and has led me to a couple:

Guy 1: You're not Pele. Stop getting cranky when someone misses a pass or fans on a shot. We have several levels of skill, not to mention several ages, playing. It's going to happen.

Guy 2: It's pickup soccer, not the World Cup. I have no idea how someone can get that upset over losing one of these games. They're only 10 minutes long, you'll be back soon.

Guy 3: I don't mind the physical play. It's part of the game (it doesn't hurt that I'm relatively big and in shape and therefore benefit from it). But learn to control yourself. This guy would be picking up boarding penalties every five minutes if we were playing hockey. And stop throwing your hands up in apology every time you do it. We let go the first one, now you just look like an idiot.

Why would they do research...the point of going to the store is to see what is available. If you want to continue to have a job to go to you should be encouraging that...because if they can do the research online they can buy it online to and that makes you dispensable.

Dont get me wrong, the customer is usually annoying and I hated working retail as much as the next guy, but I couldnt tell you the difference between a hybrid bike or a mountain bike and if I am going to buy one I sure as hell hope the person I talk to at the store can tell me or that store wont get my money. Hell just tell me to go buy a cheap bike at Target if that is where I am going to find what I want at the price I want.

I guess I left something out of the original post... The people that annoy me are often ones that know that the $100 bikes at Wal-mart or Target are junk... They think that since we are a sporting goods store, our products are superior to that of a general retail operation... They want the next level of bike, but they don't want to pay for it... That's what grinds my gears... They want the attention/specializaion we can offer, but don't understand the additional costs...

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

My friend did some digging, and she agrees it's a computer thing. Yay technology! Should work out, but still a hassle.

Um, so no hassle. I call tonight, as instructed, to see the status of the request to get that second night reserved.

This is the gist of the convo:

B: wondering about status, blah blah blah

Agent: Well, I'm showing that it's open, and you have two choices. There's a single King size bed, for the block rate of $119 plus taxes, or there's two double beds for the rate of zero dollars plus taxes.

B:.....Zero.....as in free?

Agent: That's what it's showing me.

B: Well, I guess I'll take the free one.

Emails were sent with confirmations of nights and prices, so HELL YES. :D

You should have held out and made them pay you to come to Wisconsin. ;)

Seriously - whaa? Awesome!

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

They probably just wanted to avoid the hassle of a sh^thead like you paying with a check.

Coupled with my friend discount for the other nights of the week, this now has cut my costs by about 67%. :D

See? Good things happen when you pay by check!:p

You'll get your comeuppance when your room is a broom closet.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

I never thought a simple question about grammar would spark a debate like that on a hockey website. It makes me a little happy inside.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

My brother for getting angry at tCBG, our dad and I for something that, really, was his fault. I mean, how am I or tCBG supposed to know that he is planning a BBQ if he does NOT TELL ANYONE? Really? So now's he ****ed that we had already made plans to have dinner out with Dad. And he and Mom are angry at me over this. (which grinds my gears on a whole different level, my brother is perfectly capable of expressing his displeasure with me, Mom does not need to get involved.)

I love the Mummy messenger bit. I get that all the time. Given up being polite. Now I just say that if it was important enough then so and so would tell me~ so unless they do I don't care. That goes over well.

I probably can do both (be polite and tell mom to mind her own business). She's usually pretty logical. She has just been trying to get my brother and I to have a closer relationship for the last couple of years, something which, I am not sure is going to happen.

We have very different philosophies on some really basic things in life. To the point where I'm afraid to be too close to my nieces for fear of teaching them something their parents don't want them to know/think is ok. (they are very Catholic, where, me, not so much). I realize it's not so much a problem now, they are all 6 ys old or younger. It's when they get older I can this being a problem.

Aside from that, she rarely gets involved in the relationship between us kids. So, once we've both had a couple of days to calm down, I will give her a call.

What's really funny is that in all of this, the only people who called me about any of it was Legal and our dad. Never heard from my brother, his wife, or mom. Still haven't. If they're upset with me, I haven't heard so much as a peep.

And, if they are upset with me, I'm not going to stand for it. I'm sorry that it happened, but I'm not going to change my plans at the last minute, especially when the people who want me to change said plans don't even have the courtesy to ask me themselves (a simple text message that morning would have sufficed).

These are the excact reasons why I quit playing hockey.

Our company leage won you a mug- and I managed to get 2 of them. But could never figure why people thought they were *that* valuable.

I actually walked away, mid season, as the sportsmanship just took a major downturn. that was about 10 years ago, and now only play hockey with fellow posters.

For the record, I am not upset with you in the least bit. I'm peeved at our other brother for not calling you during the week or that morning. Which ended up getting me stuck in the middle as I thought he had contacted you. I'm sorry if I made you feel like I was upset with you. :o

Nope, I didn't think you were. :)

He'll likely get there and find out they overbooked the rooms and he'll get walked by the staff to another hotel. :D

The room is part of the wedding block. :p Plus, if that happens, the bride is an employee of the parent company, so a whole lotta hell would be raised.
