Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

When it comes to grocery stores, I don't shop. I buy. Make my list ahead of time, go get what I need, and get out immediately, if not sooner.

About the only thing I shop for occasionally is clothing. Even then, I have a rough idea what I want and where it is in the store.

I'm an aisle-walker, but that's because I never know when a certain food/ingredient might look good to me. But I don't walk the aisles like an idiot (such as down the middle of the lane, or hold people up, or whatever).

Um, so no hassle. I call tonight, as instructed, to see the status of the request to get that second night reserved.

This is the gist of the convo:

B: wondering about status, blah blah blah

Agent: Well, I'm showing that it's open, and you have two choices. There's a single King size bed, for the block rate of $119 plus taxes, or there's two double beds for the rate of zero dollars plus taxes.

B:.....Zero.....as in free?

Agent: That's what it's showing me.

B: Well, I guess I'll take the free one.

Emails were sent with confirmations of nights and prices, so HELL YES. :D

Heh. They are now saying that they are retracting that offer, and making me pay the block rate, due to a computer glitch. Nowhere in the confirmation does it offer an "out" due to such things. This'll get interesting, especially since a couple other guests apparently got the last rooms, while the bride just contacted the hotel, and they say rooms are still available. * WI.

I agree - unless there is a valid and reasonable out-clause, the rate they offered you, along with your acceptance of that rate, your billing info, and the confirmation documents they sent you, should form an implied contract. However, the computer glitch that made the room "free", could be constituted as an unreasonable offer and give them grounds to retract the deal. Read everything they sent you carefully.

I have, and I took precautionary measures for this instance. Ex: they offered to tell me the confirmation number, and I asked for a confirmation email, to get it in writing (so to speak).

If worse comes to worse, I honestly can't complain TOO much, since even if I HAVE to pay the block rate, my hotel costs for the week will still be about 50% cheaper than the normal rate.

But I'll still fight this until there is nothing more to be done.

Edit: The ONLY thing I saw (which is standard) is that if they overbook, they have to find me a room at another hotel, pay for it, and pay for the transportation to get me there. Still fine by me, if the rate is $0.00 for the night.:) :)

Slow people at the salad bar.

And whichever one of you spooged cottage cheese all over the diced turkey: you suck at life.

Pro athletes having a 30 minute special to announce where they will play next year.

I am contemplating having a 30 minute program on local cable access announcing whether I will stay at my current place of work or move on to other opportunities.

Going to a company's website to change my address, being told on the website that I can't do it there that I have to call. When I call, they tell me I have to email the account rep. Um, couldn't you have just said that on the website?!?

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Today's Grinder: When guys totally change to impress girls...

A close friend of mine hasn't landed a full time, post college job since graduating in 2009... He got by on various part time jobs till this summer... He then landed a summer internship that is full time @ $15/hour... He is making decent cash ($3500+ for the summer so far) umpiring baseball with me... Right now the dude is making good money... He also lives at home, so he has no major outgoing bills...

Despite the money coming in, he feels that he needs to "Save up" his cash since his internship ends in Aug., and nothing is guaranteed after that... That's understandable, but he has taken it to the extreme... Like, he refused to come out for UFC Fights ($5 cover and a Pepsi) cause it was to expensive... He has also declined going Salmon fishing with me in WI because I would have asked him to throw in for gas... Apparently $10 in gas and $10 in food while out is too costly... When he does come out the cheapness continues... He won't buy a round at the bar, he analyzes every cost (like $5 "grass berm" seats vs $9 "real seats" at a Minor League Baseball game), and just pinches every **** penny in general...

Well, Dude got a girlfriend about 2 weeks ago... Since then, the cash has been flowing like it's out of a busted down deep-sea oil rig... He has been buying up anything and everything for her... Apparently last night, he went and bought a ton for the group he was at the bar with... Ok, I get it, you want to impress the girl since you do have cash...

Problem now is that he is apparently ragging on me and other friends for not wanting to hemorrhage cash... Tonight he wants some friends to go with the girl and her friends up to the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago to barhop... Lincoln Park is a great place to do it, but it's way more expensive than where we live and normally go... A $40-50 tab here is $100 or more there... That's what you get up towards downtown Chicago...

Well myself and another kid backed out because we can't really afford tonight on short notice... We were just asked about this today... We both were subtlety ripped into and called cheap for not going... I wanted to reach through the phone and rip this kid a new one... I get that you got a girl and want to impress her, but don't dare call the kettle black on this one...

I have not come across a bigger hypocrite in a long *** time... Why the hell do females have the power to comepletly change guys? Really? It just causes problems

Google the word "vagina"

It's all fun and games till it happens to you or one of your friends

Sad part is that I don't think this girl is pushing the issue either... Rather he just dumps it on her...

He is using her as a reason to act the way he truly wants to act. He wants to be a big shot, and now he has a reason to be that way instead of the tightwad he was before.

I know people like that...they are d-bags. Hopefully it is just a phase for the guy you know.

Good point. Plus I think his tactics are going to backfire on him if he really wants to have a long term relationship with her. He'll end up broke and single.

Seriously, the big spenders are fun for a while, but they are NOT the guys to settle down with.

The Minnesota Twins. I realize it is a long season and it is far from "over," but this is just too much fail to handle right now.

Well, they CAN be, but as you hinted at, what happens when they stop living lavishly because there's no more money? Will she get bored with sitting at home watching movies or whatever?
