Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

I actually saw something similar to that a few years back. It was on 6 lane interstate (3 lanes each side). A state trooper sat in the middle lane, doing 50 in a 55. NO ONE was passing him, for whatever reason (I think people think if you pass a cop, you're busted). I passed him doing 55. * him. And he didn't do anything. I'd like to believe he chuckled because everyone else was that darn stupid.

I think most people have the same mentality of "Oh My GOD it's a cop! Slow down!!!". I've passed a few state troopers in Wisconsin who were doing similar (60-62 in a 65, just slower than the speed limit).

I've sailed by them at about 67. If they're going to zap me for two miles over the speed limit...

I enjoy seeing people come racing up behind me like they're going to pass me, see the cop that I'm (slowly) passing, and all of a sudden they slow way down and fall back into traffic behind the cop. :D

The Iowa State Patrol enjoys doing this in the right lane on I35. I never liked this; I think it causes a cluster f* as everyone bunches together to go 55 in the left lane to get around them. I mean, at least everyone passed them, but I failed to see the purpose as once we were a couple miles down the road, the speeding recommenced.

Disclaimer: it has been a good long while since I've experienced it--I used to have the honor every other weekend while my then girlfriend, now wife, went to college in Cedar Falls.

Makes you wonder if cops ever get stuck behind slow-moving traffic because of this.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

So, the woman going 55 in the passing lane (in a 65 mph zone) irritated me today. Especially when she stayed there long after he had clearance to move back over.

In general driving on the four lane highways around here drives me crazy. You have two choices, go 10mph (at least) over the speed limit in the passing lane or 5-10 mph under it in the travel lane. What happened to being able to set the cruise control at the speed limit and just drive?!?

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

On the 4th of July weekend, we were heading home and came up to a highway patrol officer who was driving right about the speed limit. We were cruising 3-4 mph over the limit, and went right by him. Left a big cluster of cars sitting behind him. A few minutes later, he speeds up to way over the speed limit and passes me. A few minutes later, I came back up to him and passed him again after he had slowed down.

At that point I leaned over to my gf and asked how anal CA highway patrol officers are, and if passing him twice would be a bad idea.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

I pass cops all the time. Some of them give me a thumbs up and a smile, as if they are congratulating me for not being an idiot that stays behind. They do it for kicks when they are bored, I probably would too.

Parents who bring their kids to a baseball game, northwoods league in this case, and just let their kids run around the bleachers doing whatever they please. Sorry folks, this isn't free reign time for your child to be as obnoxious as possible. Watch your kids please.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Well, it's not the nice cops that give you the thumbs up you have to worry about. It's that one d-bag cop who's having a bad day you have to worry about.

Was my family unusual if we had a rule of "If we're here to watch a game, then watch the game"? None of this running around garbage that I see far too often. I get that kids have a hard time sitting still for too long, so let them loose during an intermission or break between innings, or perhaps make a race out of going to and coming back from the bathrooms/concession stand/something like that.

While watching the Brewers/Braves game on tv last night: some clown in a seat positioned so he's in one camera angle of every single pitch in a game (usually behind the plate)... waves incessantly for a good 5 or 10 minutes while he's calling everyone he knows on his cell phone grinning like a dufus and you have to look at him during every pitch. It's so freakin distracting.

There's a special place in hell for "The Wavers". It's especially bad with the front 5-10 rows at the X.

Given that the majority of the posters here live either in the midwest, or on the east coast, I realize I will get no sympathy whatsoever here, but

Living in a dry climate, I am on a trip to thew midwest to visit family, and this humidity (I'm in KC at the moment) is making me very very angry. Every time I go to the midwest (headed to Chicago tomorrow) I remember how bad it sucks.

On the subject of highways...

...people who do not know how to MERGE.

Good Lord. If the highway's 65, you should be at 65 when you merge, not 50.

I was stuck in the right hand lane for a solid 5 miles today because he didn't get up to speed quick enough to beat 4 Semis.

Seems like it, these kids barely watched a second of the game and it wasn't until the 7th inning until their parents told them to knock it off.
Then other kids are climbing over stuff, falling off and getting hurt/crying etc.
It just baffles me that parents think they don't have to actually parent anymore.

The granddaddy of all of those annoying clowns was "Rainbow Head." Remember, the guy with the multi hued afro who positioned himself in the end zone for (it seemed at the time) every freakin' football game I ever watched. And when a field goal attempt or PAT was happening, he'd make an azz of himself waving some religious inscription or another. "God so loved the world, etc"

Seemed like he did it most of my life, 'til (IIRC) he took a maid hostage at a motel somewhere. Game over, clown. It came as a total shock to me that he had problems.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollen_Stewart

Rollen is currently serving three consecutive life sentences in jail on kidnapping charges[1], having rejected a plea deal of 12 years in order to spread his message in open court. After being sentenced, he began a religious tirade and had to be restrained by bailiffs.[7] He became eligible for parole in 2002, but was denied as recently as September 2005.[3] After this conviction, he was found guilty of four stink bomb attacks.

That's a good one, along witht the dopes who get up to speed on the on-ramp, but don't bother to check the traffic that might be in the right lane until they are almost or completely out of room. Hey *****-hat, you are the one merging, that means the other guy has the right-of-way. If he can't get out of the right lane, guess what? You have to slow your arse down and wait for an open spot. You don't get to just blindly merge onto the interstate at 70mph making someone else slam on their brakes because you cut them off due to your complete lack of knowledge of driving rules and regulations. I see this happen on pretty much a daily basis, and I'm dumbfounded that I haven't witnessed a fatal accident yet.
