Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

My company did some re-organizing of sorts in the past month or so. Consolidated 5 branches/1 distribution center down to 1 branch/1 distribution center. Some Twin Cities folks just may have heard the endless commercials on 93X/Jack 104 (by the way, I'm going to punch "Karen" right in the babymaker).

Anyway, you would think that corporate would realize that all the business from those 4 other branches coming to the distribution center (where I am located) would require additional workers. We've hired 3 of the (I think) 5 positions. And we're still losing ground. Consider that they also transferred 10 to the sales counter (walk up/will call; they are considered separate from us, we don't work with them/vice versa) and we get 5. It really should be the other way around, not kidding.

Tonight alone I think we paid out about 30-35 manhours of OT. Translate that to regular paid hours.....hmmmm, there's a couple part-time positions right there. And I repeat, those hours were just for tonight. Corporate needs to get their arse up here and see WTEff is going on and actually adjust accordingly.
I was going to ask you about those sweet *** commercials. They're on K102 also.

Anytime there is a scandal and the media puts "gate" on the end of the word to make a name they can use. Weinergate, Skategate, the list is endless. Can we get some original names? Something cool like the Tea Pot Dome Scandal.

The poor Watergate Hotel. It's name will live on with ever single scandal.

I'm sure they are doing just fine :)

If I worked there my gears would be grinding :)

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Listening to incessant fluff about Bristol Palin's new book grinds my gears. WHy does a shallow 20 year old kid who is hell bent on playing the victim get more coverage than people who are risking their lives for the country or a million other more important things?? No idea why this grinds my gears so much but when they started to relay that she lost her virginity because levi got her drunk I shook my head. Be serious- why would she want to write about how stupid she was? Unless he put a funnel to her mouth she drank it (supposedly on a camping trip- yep, I guess there was a ton of supervision). The more they related stuff that was obviously someone else's fault the more irritated I got. How to teach those teens she supposedly wants to mentor- no personal responsibility, it is all someone elses fault, the guy is a jerk, everyone around her was not as perfect as her. She chucks Levi, the McCains etc under the bus, even Cindy McCain. UGH. I thought we had seen the last of her after Dancing with the Stars. Silly me.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Because America is dumb, and likes the Palin Sh*t Show. It's the Howard Stern Effect - twice as many people who despise the Palins will pay attention, as opposed to people who are actually fans. I guarantee you that sales of her book will more or less follow suit.

Only Republicans or conservatives or their spawn write horrible books? Bristol Palin is the only irresponsible teenager? Why do you read this twaddle anyway? To reassure yourself how smart you are compared to a "shallow 20 year old kid," and by extension how dumb the Palins are? You need that much reassurance? Pity. And you've just now discovered we live in a celebrity driven culture? You been pulling a Rip Van Winkle?

I know it's your "bit," but I don't think les was making this a political rant. ;)

It's more of an attention whore/easy money thing with Bristol. And in this case, les is correct.

People who sit at the stoplight for a good 30 seconds, as I approach behind them in the left lane (which you can turn left from), right lane open, and just as I stop behind them, they decide to turn their left turn signal on. Of course, it was a soccer mom in an SUV on a cellphone. You can't make this sh* up.

I don't know what you mean by "my bit," but I believe you're being just a trifle naive here to give him the benefit of the doubt that his comments weren't political. Of course they were political. He's got Palin Derangement Syndrome, don't you think? I want an investigation into who came into his home and made him consume press reports of her book. Heck, maybe even forced him to read it. Of course, she's a silly airhead, cashing in on her 15 minutes. But why does he act like she's the first or the only one or the worst one to do this? Phooey.

Les is typical of the posters who wasted no time in blaming Palin for the shootings in Tucson and found nothing objectionable about referring to her son as "retarded." (I don't recall whether he expressed these views or not, but there was no shortage of posters who did.) You have to wonder why only Bristol Palin's stupid cut and paste book grinds his gears--given that there are hundreds of others published every years.

As to late signalers, "thanks for the signal." The devices are designed to give other drivers an indication of what you're planning to do, not confirmation of what you're obviously doing now.

He, like so many many of our posters, lies awake nights worrying about the future of America if it winds up in Sara Palin's hands. And he would have doubts about the validity of democracy if that were to happen. Phooey.

These are the same posters who wasted no time in blaming Palin for the shootings in Tucson and found nothing objectonable about referring to her handicapped toddler son as "retarded." The sooner you recognize there are two standards, one for Sarah Palin and one for everybody else, the better you'll be able to decode these posts. "It's merely a coincdence that I find Bristol Palin, and only Bristol Palin's stupid cut and paste book offensive. No one else's. And my conclusions aren't political." Come on.

First off, les is a "she." And maybe this was the last straw? Maybe this came out of a related story (daughter of a presidential hopeful, no matter the party, I can cash in!), whatever. I don't hate Sarah Palin. I think she's rather green, and that's not necessarily her fault. That's about it. So I don't hold a double standard for the Palins, and in this specific (key word), case, I don't think les considered a double standard for the Palins' situation. She's judging Bristol alone. As it should be. Related: are you going to judge Newt because of his lesbian sister? I don't think so, and you shouldn't. I'm not going to judge Sarah or Bristol because of the other, due to their relationship.

Any which way, your "bit" is a radio/media term. It's your persona relayed to the masses via a medium. My "bit" is that I'm a rube. Bakunin's bit is that he's an obscene and tasteless person without morals. Foxton is a critic to the utmost degree. Twitchboy is an ubergeek of the internet. All are true in base form, but probably exaggerated in internet form. Your "bit" is criticize anything that is remotely against the Republican Party/conservatism. Fine and dandy. However, make sure it's a political stance to begin with.

Her gender is irrelevant to what goes on here, but I appreciate you letting me know. Thanks for informing me of what "bit" means, I've been in the radio business about 40 years and can use all the insight I can get. As to this impluse to give Les an endless benefit of the doubt, it's a free country and you could be right. On the other hand, the body of her posts suggests to me a very selective grinding of gears--for Bristol Palin's book and nobody else's. Is there another book (actual or potential) that would bring Les to her keyboard, with her gears grinding? Je le doute. Please, do a better hypothetical than Newt.

Your analysis of Palin and mine are pretty close. Although the election of the Sun King lowered the bar on experience pretty significantly. The indisputable fact is that Palin has been smeared and attacked in the media unlike any politician in my memory except possibly Goldwater. That old dead pinko Daniel Schorr, who was then working for CBS, reported that when Goldwater took a vacation to Germany his purpose was "to join-up with the right-wing there", and visit "Hitler's one-time stomping ground in Berchtesgaden." (He actually said this on the evening news.) We all know what German right wingers are, especially since many of the original quota were still alive in '64. In their discussion of Weinergate, Barbara Walters suggested that since Palin was taking a bus tour at the time, what was the big deal with Weiner. Even Joy Behar, who attacks Palin with every breath, though that was over the line and told Baba so. I mean, you're discussing a perv congressman and Sarah Palin pops into your head?

So I've responded to your responses, which are only marginally related to the points I made initially. I'll concede when Les posts objections about a book by the spawn of some other well known personality. And while I vigorously defend the conservative position from the undergraduate liberalism which characterizes much of what goes on here, I don't talk politics all the time. Not even close.

I usually obstain from the political threads because of the black-white divisiveness (note: you are not a sole factor, nor a factor at all, it's the general crowds), so I don't know her responses in total like you claim (not saying you're wrong, but I don't know if you're right). And that goes for her, too. I judge on what I witness.

Anyway, Newt was just the first thing that came to mind, nothing more. It was the obvious example. And the Wiener story was going to get out of hand, comedically and seriously; anyone with a brain cell saw that one coming. I was tired of it before it actually all came out, probably for the same reasons you, any conservative, or any somewhat intelligent person were. Blatant toilet jokes, overreaction, blanket generalities, blah blah blah. He *ed up. Not that I normally would care, but he *ed up on company time. And lied about it. Sorry, done.

Anyway, new pet peeve: any opinion turning into a political (and only political) opinion. I question (Exhibit A's) actions? "Augh! Righty!" "Augh! Leftist Bleeding Heart!" "Commie!" "Fascist!"

Dr. Demento and I used to post all the time on the movie quotes thread, which has sort of died out. Similarly, he and I post on the "Bring Our Your Dead thread, where we get to reminice about old movies. Last fall, I started a thread about a legendary hs cross country coach in Chicagoland (whom I know a llittle) who had won his 27th state title! Guy's been there over 50 years and is in his 80's. I like to drop pearls into the Nice Planet thread, at least some of which aren't especially political. I had a lot of fun when the Duke LAX guys were being set up for the rope (by many of our lib posters) although that one wasn't directly partisan. And I've been known to stand up for the nickname of one of the most prominent college hockey programs from time to time.

I've also posted that we've come to a bad place in this country, where almost everything is political and nobody gives the other side the benefit of the doubt. And, yes, I'm a prime offender. Lyndon Johnson got the '64 civil rights bill through the Senate by relying on his old buddy, Republican leader Ev Dirksen of Illinois, to round up some Republican votes, since the southern Democrats were opposed. I doubt that would be possible today.

As to Weiner, assuming his seat isn't eliminated by redistricting, the Democratic governor of NY will appoint a replacement. And last time I looked, they weren't running short of pugnacious Jewish guys in Brooklyn. So what's the big deal? Same thing with Vitter. He goes and Bobby Jindal will replace him with another conservative.

Brent- I have OP on ignore so no worries if he goes off and decides what I am thinking.

For the record- My beef had nothing to do with Gov. Palin. It was not political. Bristol is about as apolitical as they come. I was ranting because she sounds like a spoiled brat who thinks everyone in the world has a problem but her. A common thought process in people who are in their teens/early 20s, but not one that usually gets them paid to write a book, dis pretty much everyone they seem to have had a connetion with and blame people for decisions they made. To be fair, I did not read the book. Unfortunately I have heard quotes and reviews relating stuff on the McCains (who are GOP by the way), the DWtS cast, Levi, etc and found them all to be judgemental, shallow and self absorbed with no seeming insight into taking any responsibility for her part in situations. The 2 that really irritate me the most are her whining Levi 'got her drunk' so she got pregnant and her trashing of the McCains who I find classy people. Meanwhile there are real stories that get no attention (as I originally posted) like the troops who are dying, governments falling apart, floods, tornados that are not even mentioned. I find this aggravating to the extreme!

I wonder what part of this is political but I am sure in my subconcious it must some how be. I just must not be in touch with my inner self :p

What grinds me is how people turn everything political. Especially when it's not.

Bristol is part of a group of people who are famous for being famous. Hilton kids, Ecclestone kids, basically someone who did something's kids. Too many people absorb too much "entertainment" for their relevancy.

But worse is when you complain about one, and then someone pretends that you are attacking the core of their beliefs.... some people. Try to make out that the situation in the world is a lot worse than it is due to the other guy, and that their guy can do no wrong..... Humans. We are all one. Therefore, we are all not perfect. No side has a monopoly of the best nor the worst ideas. Sorry if that doesn't fit into your little mind's version of the world.

(ignore is a great thing, les. I'd rep you, but I don't see where it is anymore for mine, so I'm not sure if it's relevant.)

I'm not "deciding what you're thinking," dear. I merely drew a not unreasonable conclusion based on your many insipid posts. If I'm wrong I apologize, and look forward to other reviews of books by children of famous people. So far, you've offered only one. Personally, I'd rather chop cotton than read any autobiography of any "famous kid," and that includes Bristol Palin.

Oh, grow up, would ya? That post is as close to illiterate as I hope we ever get around here. Try not to be such a drama queen.
