THe phones we have at home have what I thought was going to be a really stupid feature: Audio caller ID. THe phone will literally announce, "Call from John Doe" or whatever the name is. It's awesome. Laziness +1

Our Digital Voice from Comcast shows the caller ID on the TV. We don't even have to look at the phone! Laziness + infinity!

My buddy got a speeding ticket last night for 81mph in a 65mph area on the highway... All effing night he has been throwing a hissy fit about it through Facebook... Everything from the "End of the month quota" excuse, to the cop is too fat/lazy to catch real criminals, to being age discriminated against (he's 24)... Right now I want to pound some sense into his head with a 2x4... DON'T EFFING SPEED ALL THE DANG TIME IF YOU DON'T WANT TICKETS :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I love people that try to use the entrapment defense when they didn't see the cop around.

Umm, guess what? Thinking there are no cops in the area does not force you to speed, or commit any other moving violation. You broke the law, and were caught. Suck it up.

Outside of religious beliefs or serious dietary/health concerns, there is just no explanation for vegetarians/vegans. It's always funny how the least reasonable "meat is murder" types are the loudest and most obnoxious (and even funnier how that applies to almost all opinionated situations :p).

Hunting certain animals is part of responsible ecology. If people didn't attempt to kill Bambi's parents every year, a significant percentage of the herd would likely die from winter-kill or overpopulation/starvation. If someone will eat it, why let it go to waste?
Last night on Cooking Channel, there was a program on vegetarian culture, and I was hearing some of the reasons as to why people chose the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle. Most of what I heard was health concerns and concern for the treatment of animals, which I understood. However, I heard two reasons that floored me. A restaurant owner said she went vegetarian to rebel against her parents, and someone else said that he chose the life because his roommates were vegetarians and he didn't want to lose them. Honestly, someone chose not to eat meat because he didn't want his roommates to move out? I have no respect for people like that.

As for the restaurant owner? She lost on Iron Chef America to Chef Morimoto in a vegetarian battle.

I'm on a 6 week project with THIS person:

Contributes very little to brainstorming discussions but every time someone comes up with an idea or a member of the executive staff stops in and makes a suggestion she says something like: 'That's just what I was going to say' or 'I was just thinking that'. And/or she does this annoying thing where she quick writes down the idea that's being discussed and then looks at someone else and points at her notebook implying it was her idea.

Every ****ing time.

Do everyone a favor- at EVERY SINGLE CHANCE, ask that person, specifically, if they have any suggestions, ideas, thoughts, issues.

Then every time they open their pie hole to say anything about anyone elses ideas, ask them why they didn't bring it up. Be nice, and make sure you play on their precieved creativity and value. it won't take long for everyone else to know exactly what you do, and hopefully, that person will either be embarassed to keep doing that, or they will actually voice a real opinion, or just keep digging holes.

Just remember to play nice, and pretend that they are the most gifted person in the room. People get off on that. When you say "why didn't you bring that up"- make sure it's in a tone that's expective and nice and wanting. Don't give up. They will shut up. It really works.

The fire at the Nook. While home for Christmas, I was hoping to stop in for a burger. I'll probably still head to Shamrock's, but am a little bummed out because the Nook was one of my favorite places. (And dangerously on the way home from school.)

Yeah, the Nook news is definitely on the list.

Oops, wrong thread.

I hate reviews. Self reviews, peer reviews, whatever. "Paper"work generally grinds my gears. I guess I should be happy my boss never gets around to interim reviews, otherwise I'd have to do it more often.

http://newlenoxparks.org/

That is my town's park district... If you look at the big red headline on the main page, it states "HAINES PARK NOW OPEN FOR ICE SKATING DAILY UNTIL 10:30PM!"... That would be the one park in the area that has pond hockey/skating... Well, this has been posted all week... Not once have they had the lights at this park on after dusk...

This is third straight winter where I have had problems with "winter policy/operation" with the park district... It's like after Nov. 1st, their heads just go up their asses for hibernation till April 1st... It's frustrating as hell when they don't even know how their own operation works... Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if the cops ticketed me for tresspassing on park property after dusk, even after they turn on the lights... It just bugs the hell out of me when public officials just make this **** up as they go along...

I hate red-tape BS. I brought up an improvement to my area. It would take 10 minutes, a straight edged object, and a can of spray paint (I want to mark certain areas on the floor).

1. Had to write up a proposal.
2. Associate For Continuous Improvement (or something like that) has to review it.
3. ACI has to then do "time studies" etc to see if it would possibly improve efficiency.
4. ACI then forms a team to meet and discuss benefits/costs/etc of said proposal.
5. Team decides whether or not to approve proposal.
6. That decision is forwarded to the Head Boss, where he has final say.

This is going to take about a month, minimum, before any decision is made.

Are you kidding me? What a waste of time. I long for the days of "let's do this." "Okay, if it doesn't work, we'll just change it back."

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

I love my dad, but his actions of late grind my gears. Hasn't done dishes for three days in a row, can't walk around and pick up old newspapers, and tells me he doesn't have time, but seems to have plenty of it when it comes to the computer, spending time with my aunt, going to lunch with friends, etc. Also, he jerks me out of bed this morning, complaining of how he doesn't have any clean pants to wear to work. I've told him over and over again that if he doesn't put his pants in the dirty clothes, they won't be washed. How is he not getting this? If this keeps up, I'm done. I can't take care of him and myself at the same time.

Is he paying you to be Molly Maid? (even if he is he wouldn'tdisrespect them like that) Sounds like a teenager with a bad attitude. He is a grown up. Take his hand, lead him to the washing machine, hand him the detergent and tell him to grow up! Take all his trash, put it in a bag and leave it in his room. He must be saving it for someting but it didn't need to be in the common area. This is why I could never live with my Mum. I love her dearly but she is a walking maelstrom.
