Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

And the disrespect you and others have shown toward a holiday which over 90% of Americans observe would not be countenanced by you and other libs if directed toward another religion. Why do you suppose that is?

People dont mock and disrespect Jewish holidays? People dont mock and disrespect muslim holidays? Since when? Oh I forgot, this must be in the world where the Christians are persecuted. Tell me, what color is the sky in your world?

If you want me to respect Christmas, dont whore it out. Considering it wasn't Jesus' birthday and is more represented by a fat dude with a beard drinking a Coca-Cola I would say CHRISTIANS are doing more to disrespect Christ than any "Lib" could ever do. (I love that I am a lib...must be why I voted 3rd party)

Come on now Pio, lets see you bust out some socialism reference or talk about how the Communists are destroying everything. Don't let us down buddy! :D

"Christmas circle jerk" Respectful?

HEY THAT WAS MINE!!! :p

edit: I like when people say Merry Christmas...when I say no thanks the look on their face is priceless :p

The few times I've encountered *******es like this, I've made it a point to eat the raresest meat possible in front of them and let a couple dribbles of blood run down my chin. It also works with rare burgers when you let the bottom bun get soaked in blood while eating it. Then I throw in some unsavory deer hunting stories or go into detail on how we go about butchering our own deer.

Yeah, I usually say something like "more animals for me!" or go into detail about the juiciest steak I've ever had.

Meat is murder...tasty, tasty murder...mmmmmmm :)

I really don't understand vegetarians...why would you voluntarily not eat such delicious food?

I know a couple vegans, and I get it, but just don't agree with it. Thankfully, they're cool about my food choices. Honestly, we didn't fight our way to the top of the food chain to eat stuff that food eats, but whatever.

I really like to point out how good and tender suckling pig is- and it has the crispiest skin evar!

bunnies = tasty.

Donald duck is one of my favorites.

Rabbit season/Duck season- I'll take BOTH!

Especially with foi..., I mean engorged goose liver.
Thanks for the advice. When I walk into class on Thursday, I'm going to tell her how awesome oven-baked apple-smoked bacon is, how all her precious veggies would taste better sauteed in bacon fat, and I'll go into detail about the oxtail stew I'm making on Sunday. :D

Mention the bald eagle you had.

Outside of religious beliefs or serious dietary/health concerns, there is just no explanation for vegetarians/vegans. It's always funny how the least reasonable "meat is murder" types are the loudest and most obnoxious (and even funnier how that applies to almost all opinionated situations :p).

Hunting certain animals is part of responsible ecology. If people didn't attempt to kill Bambi's parents every year, a significant percentage of the herd would likely die from winter-kill or overpopulation/starvation. If someone will eat it, why let it go to waste?

I'm no animal rights activist, would never give up beef, and you can pry the bacon from my cold, dead fingers. But even I can understand the economic and ecological concerns about meat. Hunting is one thing, but what % of meat consumed in the world is hunted? The rest is farmed on land dedicated to that purpose, and nutritionally speaking, it is a very inefficient use of land. That's fine in the US, where we have plenty of land to feed our whole population, probably twice over. That's not true in other countries, where choosing to raise meat means that some people go hungry or ecologically sensitive land is cleared for that purpose.

Mmmmm.....burgers.....

I would think in a normal, healthy forest, that is not overly encroached upon by humans, hunting is not necessary to maintain an healthy ecology. While the deer that do not survive the winter may not be eaten by humans, there are plenty of other critters in the forest that will make a meal of them. (and I am NOT against hunting, I just don't totally buy the ecology argument)

Except in most places the usual predators are no longer around. We are over-run with deer here because they find food in our gardens. No predators to cull them.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Let's not forget that deer are almost a nuisance in minnesota in the month or two leading up to the culling of the herd. If you don't trim the numbers, the car/deer accidents alone would have a staggering price tag (and possibly death toll - hit a deer going 65 and see what happens). Honestly speaking, the percentage of meat that is actually eaten is irrelevant, it's just a bonus to those who actually bag a deer. You simply can't allow them to go unchecked. The white tailed deer's natural range is pretty much the continental United States. Encroachment ensmoachment.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Don't worry, in about 3 days I'll be doing my best to cull the herd. We have 8-10 hunters in our group, depending on the day, and we usually take close to 20 deer a season. We are in an "intensive harvest" area, meaning the population is so out of control each hunter is allowed to take up to 6 deer.

No, there aren't. Not anymore. Wolves and bears are all but gone and only slowly being reintroduced. Not to mention deer spread like rabbits and won't contain themselves to areas "not encroached upon by humans."

Don't let Disney sway you with Bambi.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

We need to introduce lions, tigers and great white sharks to the forests.

SIX?!! I had heard of areas with a limit of two but never six. That's crazy.

Yeah, actually I didn't check how many it was this year, last year was 6. I'm sure it is more than 2 this year though. There is a reason I call it deer killing, we don't go out there to get food or for the "sport" of it. We have an express intention to kill as many deer as possible and trim the herd, population control. If its brown, it down.
