Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

...work crap...

Cool Boss pulled me aside today, said he saved the IMs from Person who tried to backstab me, and showed them to Head Boss. Head Boss was, and I quote, "*ing irate" about Person's IMs/attitude/etc. Both totally had my back.

Cool Boss implied that Person got his arse chewed out something fierce. :)

Ungrateful people.

Something I've always done since i was younger is hold the door for people behind me when entering or exiting a building. Especially if they have a full cart, full arms, or if they are elderly or disabled in some way. I'm admittedly not the nicest person in the world, but for some reason, I always thought this was a simple act of courtesy and it usually makes me feel good.

I'm leaving a doctor's office last week, and I encounter a VERY elderly couple shuffling in. Moving slowly, the old man opens the outside door for his wife and she struggles in. I'm at the inside foyer door so I open it and stand aside, holding it open for them both. The man stops, turns to me and says, "I don't need no one to hold a door open for me," and continues on his way. I literally stood there and had about a thousand different things I felt like saying/doing to this old bastage run through my mind, but I decided it was best to just walk away, as this feeble geriatric was obviously miserable enough, I wasn't about to get into it with him. Unbelievable.

I have run into the same thing with a few superdyke man-hating feminists. "Women have arms too you chauvinist *hole." is what I got.

I laughed then did the same thing, walk away.

Your response should have been "of course they do, how else would they wash the dishes?"

I would have considered slamming the door on him, or at least making a comment along the lines of "I was helping your old lady, but since you're almost dead yourself, I thought I'd help you out a little bit, too."

I'm all for common courtesy, but if I'm shat on like that, I'm going to return fire. Many years ago I worked at a service desk at a grocery store, and we cashed checks for people. This bitter old woman got a check from the State of Michigan for caring for a handicapped child. No problem, it was all legit. This woman was a piece of crap of a human being. I'd have to check on something every time she brought the check in, but it only took a few seconds. She got uppity about that, along the lines of "you know me, I'm in here every month". The first few times I explained to her that I had to do what I had to do, but after that I used the excuse of "ma'am, I wait on over 1,000 a day. I don't remember", although I knew **** well who she was. So I would cash her check, she'd take the money, stuff it in her purse, and stomp away, not even looking back. She always got a terse "you're welcome" out of me. On a scale of 1-10, the snark meter on that comment would have rated about a 12.

Funny- I thanked a guy for holding the door open for me, fully knowing he was holding it open for women. He replied "I wasn't holding it open for you a-hole". If I had the guts, I should have turned around and asked if he wasn't man enough to hold the door open for another man.

Apparently, he must have thought random acts of kindness to other men may have question his manhood. Which I would have loved point out that to the women he was trying to, well, you know....

Keep in mind that a lot of old folks don't like to admit they are old so stuff like that can set them off.

That's a ****-poor excuse, in my book. How much you wanna bet he's the type who would have complained if I HADN'T held the door either? It probably didn't matter what I did, it wouldn't have been right.

You might be right on all counts... but I've seen a lot of that from older people.

Then again, maybe his Viagra kicked in and he was just feeling frisky!

"I was taught to respect my elders. Was my momma wrong??" ***- I teach Lil to hold the door for anyone more than 5 yrs older than he is and for all women. I guess I am doing it wrong.

Exactly. He's just bitter because he's old and CAN'T do a lot of the things he used to be able to. He knows it, and doesn't want to accept it. I'd be pretty dumbfounded by his response, but it's understandable. Kinda of a sad situation.

He keeps it up and he'll be able to do even less after he gets his 176 year old face pounded in and hip broken in 37 places.

Greasemonkey + Facebook Purity + privacy controls at their max + unwritten rule where I only friend people I've met IRL. Never had a problem.

You must be insane. No one else has said anything about it and I don't friend anyone on Facebook or use any applications.
