Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

I'm sitting here on my computer concentrating hard on some reports for work tonight when the cat starts freakin' out. So I check what her problem is and see that she's looking up at a bat in my room. This is my first encounter with a bat outside of a zoo.

The cat - apparently not aware that bats carry rabies - is jumping and trying to climb the wall to get at it so the thing starts flying around the room and dive bombing me. I grabbed the cat and bailed and shut all doors.

Eventually, it parked itself on the wall and I caught it with a clear plastic pitcher and put it out on the patio. He was actually a cute little critter when I got a good look at him in the pitcher.

But I could have done without the adrenalin rush on a Sunday night.

When they are freaked bats just fly randomly. When Mr and I bought our first house I spent the 1st night we owned it there by myself. 2AM there was a bat flying around my bedroom. NOT HAPPY. We had a few other events before we called in the exterminator folks and found out we had an entire colony in the attic that the house inspector 'missed'.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

Warning- this post contains mucho hypocracy.

My new gear grinder is internet chat rooms, where people ***** an moan about everything.

Locally, I'm a member of a car club that puts events on- racing stuff- it's a lot of work for a very small club like mine, but ususally we have a good time doing it. And we normally get good responses about it.

The nature of the events is that the course varies a lot- and depends highly on the condition and size of a parking lot that we are allowed to use- so our courses vary from slow to fast.

On the flip side, there's a local internet board that likes to post about racing and autocrossing. I don't know why I even go over there even once a year, the typcial postings are so childish.

So we get complaints about our courses being too tight, and we get complaints that our courses are too open. And we just get general complaints about the courses for the sake of whining, I suppose. We get complaints that our registration isn't on line, and just stupid stuff.

Few, if any of these posters, actually have to find lots that are willing to let you play, understand the cost of said lots, and then have to organize the events which tends to be a weekend of work.

People like that really ruin events that I work on. I used to really enjoy putting on these events, but thanks to jerks like that, I plan on not doing it anymore.

so, was the hypocracy clear enough? :D

Bats are awesome, when they are outside. They are a lot like spiders in that regard.

Re: Grinding Away..Things that grind your gears, part three

I can assure you this is not so. They also do not go thru badmitton rackets, Mayonaise jars or other lidded jars.

Hmm. I'm going off of a second hand anecdote.

If what you say is true, then the story was exaggerated for comedic effect.

Our method of removal was to wack it with a racket, slap a jar oover it and then slide a cardboard paper under it to keep it in a jar. Sadly this was an oft repeated technique until we moved out of that house.:(

Swatted many intruder bats in my 100+ year old house. If you corner them in one room with no escape, they tend to fly in a repeating pattern avoiding the obstacles they detect...so you kinda know where they're gonna go after watching them briefly. Makes swatting them fairly easy...but you have to swing fast. I use a badminton racket...light, good racket speed. I was told once a bat was knocked to the floor, if still alive they were unable to launch / take flight from the floor. This is not true.

When you're sitting there watching tv and a Bat flys in, it will freak you out. Seen it many times when I lived in Orono.

Is this sorta like batting against Nick Blackburn?

The IL DMV...

Due to having Diabetes, I had to have my doctor fill out a form that says I am capable of driving a car in a safe manner... That form was signed, sealed, and delivered to the DMV/Secretary of State office in their own self-addressed envelope about a month ago...

Today I find out that my Driver's License has been canceled because I have not had a doctor sign off on my medical condition... Apparently they never got the form...

Right now, I am about to blow... My form is probably sitting in some random pile of paper on some bureaucrats desk, waiting for that person to gain some motivation to do work...

With no license, my life stops dead in it's tracks  Word to the wise: DON'T LOSE YOUR LICENSE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES... Right now, even going to the grocery store is gonna have to be a big ordeal... FML

It's Illinois. I know way too many people who have driven around/gone about their lives on a suspended/yanked license. Just pretend you're a South Sider, or from Elgin. ;)

This gets even better:rolleyes:

So after some phone calls, I find out that the DMV did receive my form... However the form was "incomplete" because my doctor didn't put the date on a line.... She accidentally covered the line when she stamped the form with her address... Now, I can understand how a missing date can be important...

The problem is that the date appears on the form in THREE other places... I mean, I know that IL politics can stand in the way of a lot of things, but JFC

Do you really think that I had my doctor fill out the medical questions on one day, have her list my prescriptions on another, and then see her a 3rd time so she can put her contact information on the **** sheet    She even dated the sheet when she put her signature on the bottom of it

I am not even going to get into the hoops I have to jump through now to get my license back... Right now I am looking at not being able to drive for 2-3 weeks just because one line was accidentally covered up... THIS IS ****ING BULL ****!

Just wait until they try to make you pay a reinstatement fee. Then you are really going to be ticked.
