I want to make sure I have this right:

Prior to yesterday:

MAGAts/Proud Boys/the rest of the terrorists: "We're going to the Capitol and we're gonna cause a ruckus!"

Today:

MAGAts/Proud Boys/Terrorists: "It wasn't me."

My brother was Air Guard until he retired with about 25 years of service, roughly 18 years ago. When he was still in the service, he would have to qualify on his M-14/16/whichever-model-was-current once every year. Qualification included target accuracy ratings. If you're going to maintain accuracy, you're going to be at the firing range more than once per year. Failure to qualify meant that you would then be forced into routine practice sessions for X weeks until you could then qualify. Failure after that meant disciplinary situations, up to and including discharge from the Air Guard.

I was dealing with mechanics/maintenance people. They hardly even carried their guns around.

It's like they forgot the FBI exists during their adventures yesterday. And they have less than two weeks until new management is in charge.

In the Air Force, unless you're a pilot, a member of a flight crew, or working at a guar post, you really don't have a sidearm. My brother taught people how to suit up for chemical warfare attacks, and his wife managed servers and telecom equipment. They both had to qualify every year.

And they only reason they ever told me about the rifle qualifications requirement is that my SIL barely passed each and every year except one, where she said others on her team hit her target for her a couple times. While he never served in a war zone, she wad deployed to Afghanistan for a year, one of the joint operating bases (multiple branches, and multiple nations' military forces based there). Marksmanship jokes abounded between the two that year (she never had to fire at the enemy when her base was attacked). I find that people who serve for as long as they did tend to talk about their service time a lot. They're not bragging about things, they just have a lot of stories.

I heard more than one story about the crazy guys serving special forces; apparently they didn't talk to anybody unless there was absolute need. About anything. Also, if you had the time, you went to the French military dining halls/huts/whatevers as their food there far outstripped the others.
