Gophers-Badgers: Not Good Enough for Mariucci

Re: Gophers-Badgers: Not Good Enough for Mariucci

Chuck seems to care what I think. :p

Giving up 92 goals isn't that great. In fact, after glancing through the GF/GA nationally, that puts you guys in the middle of the pack when it comes to who will make the NCAA's.

If UW advances to the F4, it'll be due to their offense, not their defense/goaltending.

Maybe we should look back at the last four to five national champions and I bet almost all of them gave up less than 92 goals at this point in the season.

Re: Gophers-Badgers: Not Good Enough for Mariucci

This Gopher team possibly is one of the 16 worst losing teams in the 80+ years of Gopher hockey. The BADgers should have walloped them but they showed me their consistency is lacking. IMO, there is no excuse for a second seed to lose to the Gophers. They can't score if they did the Gophers wouldn't be playing UND this weekend.

You do realize that it's a rivalry and that one of the games was senior day correct?

We can't score? We're second in the nation in scoring. But, let's not let the facts get in the way of a good debate.

Re: Gophers-Badgers: Not Good Enough for Mariucci

I can't?

Do you seriously believe killing penalties has nothing to do with your defensemen? Your team gave up 5 PPG's to a Gopher team that has a bad powerplay (they entered the game converting on 15% of them). Based on the combination of poor special teams play and chances given up this weekend, I just don't think your team is strong enough on the defensive side of things to win the whole thing - especially in goal. If MN's offense wasn't so *'ing terrible, I think they'd have swept UW this weekend - which is rather surprising to me because I didn't expect the play to be what it was heading into this series (the first one in Madison led me to think UW was a *much* better team - I still think that's true, but they sure as hell did not play like it for more than a few minutes this weekend).

I guess we'll find out over the next couple weeks if this was merely a bad weekend for them and a one-time thing, or if it's an ominous sign of what's to come.

Small sample. Rivalry weekend. Senior day. Etc...etc..

The last sentence wasn't a good one. It should read like this. The Gophers can't score if they did they wouldn't be playing UND this weekend. Sorry about that I will edit it.

This has more to do with our goaltending than our defense.

What Gopher fans are telling everybody. The team is horrible and has no business beating the BADgers and the Sioux. This is one of worst teams in school history. The fact of the matter is over the course of 80 plus years of Gophers hockey this team will be one of 16 teams to have a losing record. IMO, no excuse the BADgers and UND should sweep the Gophers and put us all out of our misery.

Ok, defense is good but goaltending is a suspect. Thus proving our point the BADgers are unlikely to win a national championship this spring.

Re: Gophers-Badgers: Not Good Enough for Mariucci

We won the game that we wanted to win.

Obviously, our focus wasn't at its best today, nor did we play our best goalie, such as he is.

As a fan, I wish we would have stuck it to you on Senior Day in your place, but the players' hearts just weren't in it. Yeah yeah I know, a great team would have found a way to get motivated. Not necessarily.

As fans, we are aware of our team's limitations and I don't believe that too many of us are making room in the trophy case just yet. But at least we have a chance.

You guys have a chance of winning one more game this season. That's it.

Congrats on your big win today. You can savor it all Summer. It was SO huge!

Re: Gophers-Badgers: Not Good Enough for Mariucci

How does Woog still have a job doing play by play? Don't get me wrong, Paul Braun and Bill Howard were "homers" from the drop of the puck, but at least in a widely broadcast TV game Braun could dial those tendencies back a bit. And further, Woog is just not very good. He has spent more time talking about hockey in general and ignoring the game that is right in front of him.
Woog doesn't have a job doing play by play. He does color, and he's very good. Knows more about hockey then most of us could ever hope to. His job is talking about hockey in general...Frank's is the game in front of him.

Wow. Holy misleading stat, Batman. Minnesota defeated UND for a national championship. Minnesota has defeated UND in numerous playoff games. The stat you are referring to is that Minnesota has never won a playoff game in UND's rink.
That was a helluva reach. He should be a politician. :D

You guys are bad for a Gopher team, but you are above .500 since x-mas(or some midway point) and any above .500 team in the WCHA can beat one of the top teams. CC beat Denver this weekend also and MSU beat SCSU. Such is the WCHA.

We are really humble. I just hope my patience can make it through October especially with every rival beating their chest.

So theoretically, WI could have 47 goals on the year, and only have given up 1. That means great D, crappy O. Or, they could have scored 246 goals on the year, and given up 200. Great O, really crappy D.

Lies, dam lies, and stats, remember?

There are NCAA tournament teams, and teams that are going to be dusting off the golf bag a week from now. Better start setting up your golf dates with Kato fans.:D

Let's look back. These are for the complete season, If you want to go back, look up the playoff totals and subtract them go ahead.
BU-91
BC-101
MSU-102
UW-79
DU-110
DU-120
UM-122
UM-119
So 92 ga at this point is not looking too bad compared to the last 8 NC.
